The tragedy comes as Bali faces an uptick in weather-related disasters this December.
Weather agency BMKG Denpasar Climatology Station has warned that extreme weather may persist until mid-January 2025. Weather forecaster Made Dwi Wiratmaja said that while rainfall intensity may dip slightly by late December, heavy rain remains likely.
“Residents must remain vigilant against floods, landslides, and falling trees,” Wiratmaja said. “Avoid travel during adverse weather to reduce the risk of accidents or being trapped in disasters.”

On the one-year anniversary of the war in Gaza, Indonesia reiterates its call for an immediate ceasefire. The violence has escalated since October 7, 2023, resulting in nearly 42,000 Palestinian deaths, many of whom are women and children.
Deputy Foreign Minister Pahala Mansury promised to continue advocating for an end to the fighting and to raise awareness of Israeli actions on international platforms.
“We will continue to push for a two-state solution, but one of the things that we consider most urgent is to have that immediate ceasefire,” Pahala said.

The House of Representatives (DPR) officially began the new five-year term on Wednesday, October 2, which does not include any representatives from the Muslim-based United Development Party (PPP).

Hundreds of pagers that belong to the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah have simultaneously exploded across Lebanon on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, killing at least nine people—including an 8-year-old girl—and injuring thousands.
Among the injured was Mojtaba Amani, Iran’s ambassador to Lebanon. Mohammad Mahdi Ammar, the son of Hezbollah MP Ali Ammar, has also been confirmed dead.
The explosions, triggered by small amounts of explosive concealed in pagers, were reportedly carried out by Isr4el, though they declined to comment.

The government is considering to limit access to subsidized vehicle fuel based on engine capacity to reduce the strain on the state budget, an official announced on Friday.
Under the proposed policy, motorcycles and small cars would still be eligible for the subsidized gasoline known as Pertalite, which is currently priced at Rp 10,000 ($0.64) per liter. Subsidized diesel products like Solar and Biosolar are priced at Rp 6,800 per liter.
According to Rachmat Kaimuddin, deputy at the Coordinating ministry of Maritime Affairs and Investment, vehicles with larger engine capacities would be required to use non-subsidized fuel.
“The draft policy is being finalized. Since we can’t freely raise the prices of subsidized fuel, the best approach is to regulate its distribution,” Rachmat said.

A number of high schools in Jakarta are set to take part in the trial test of President-Elect Prabowo Subianto’s policy of the free nutritious school meal next week. The government is currently conducting trials and errors for this ambitious program.
