Sunday morning in Sanur ☀️

During the wet season, it’s hard to catch some sunshine in the afternoon, so it’s better to head out in the morning.

This morning was cloudy, but the sun still shone brightly. The beach was alive with people enjoying their Sunday. Families, friends, and even their furry companions, all sharing laughter and making memories by the beach.

Every six months, following the vibrant Galungan and Kuningan holidays, the village of Kesiman comes alive with the traditional ‘Pengerebongan’ ceremony. This unique cultural event, deeply rooted in the local Hindu-Balinese tradition, takes place on a Sunday and offers visitors a glimpse into a centuries-old ritual.

The Ngerebong ceremony celebrates the triumphs and successes of ancient kings, blending spirituality with historical pride. Officially recognized as an intangible cultural heritage since 2018, it’s an extraordinary cultural experience that highlights Bali’s rich heritage.

As part of the ceremony, you’ll have the chance to admire the magnificent penjor tall, intricately decorated bamboo poles each one artistry crafted with care by the local banjar (community groups) of Kesiman. These penjor are a visual feast, symbolizing prosperity and devotion.
