[ALERT] FRIDAY HORROR STORY
Each countries in this planet have their own story of giants. From Bigfoot, Yeti, Trolls, Titan, Gigants, Jotun, Detya, and the list goes on. In Indonesia themselves, they have many variations of it, such as Begu Ganjang, Genderuwo and our topic today, is Buto Ijo.
Buto Ijo is a legend mentioned in Indonesia’s old folklores, such as Timun Mas, where Buto Ijo was depicted as a giant who grants an old woman’s wish to have a kid in her old days since she can’t bear a child herself. Buto Ijo gave her seeds of cucumber, where it grows into a magical golden cucumber which has a baby in one of it and gold and jewelries in other, as a gift for the baby. The only thing Buto Ijo ask to the old woman in return of giving her a child is to give back the child when she is old enough, 17 years old to be exact. He failed to get the child and died since the Timun Mas girl fought him to death.
In line with the legendary story of Timun Mas, Buto Ijo is known as a giant who grants people’s wishes by learning witchcraft, whether it is for wealth, successor, power, or any form of success and the worst case was to harm others with the life of a sacrifice as a price, or it will hit the one asking a wish to Buto Ijo and become their slave in their afterlife. Those sacrifice Indonesian call as Tumbal. It can be in the form of an egg, a black chicken, a sheep, a cow, or even worse, a person. It varies on how strong the Buto Ijo are. And once the person who asks Buto Ijo to help them with anything doesnt provide those sacrifices, Buto Ijo will start to target the person’s family one by one and that person as the last resource.
The malice that the sacrifices experience will in a form of murder, or in a form of bizarre incurable illness that not even doctors can heal. Some will get strange things grew out of their innards such as nails, hair, or simply rotting the victims inside out with no medical explanation. This practice of witchcraft had existed since the age of animism and dynamism belief existed in Indonesia.
Children who were fed to Buto Ijo as a sacrifice will become their slaves, or changed into another monster that we will talk about next.
Be careful, don’t act harsh on Indonesian people, dont hurt them even just with words, unless you want our big hairy green troll to visit you.
