This album from 2009. is the second album of my solo project Mischosen, named “Set Afloat”. Fast forward 15 years and I’ve finally decided to put it on streaming services 😅
Considering it is from 2009. and I was a beginner audio engineer, I think the production is still holding up.

Like it or not, Dolby Atmos spatial audio is being pushed into music industry more and more. The most sensible thing to do is to get into it and learn the workflow. I'm learning and getting the hang of it on this cool track "No spice" by Zvonimir Đimoti Gimatz Djeemothee in binaural mode on headphones.

Here I’m isolating the snare drum using an interesting technique. I’m making a copy of snare tracks, flipping their phase to null out the sound and compressing them to let only the snare hits poke out. Both the original and the copy are grouped together and cleaned up more using “Nolly” multiband compressor trick.

Using a multiband compressor trick to get that big snare sound out of room mics, without all that cymbal harshness.
One of many subtle tricks used in a track to get a great mix!

Time to beef up the acoustic treatment! I made some new absorption panels/bass traps, twice the ticknes of the old ones. Together with the old ones there is now much less reflections, and the sound is a lot more even and focused!
