Why do some flowers close at night?
For protection from dew and foreign insects. Dew, settling inside the flower, would wet the pollen, depriving it of its ability to perform reproductive functions. Therefore, dandelions, for example, are closed not only at night, but also during the day in wet weather. In addition, those flowers that are pollinated by daytime insects are folded over the night. So nocturnal insects pollinating other plants will not be able to bring on them alien pollen they do not need, and carry pollen from a flower to a plant of a different species. This is probably what causes individual flowers - scented to***co, matthiola - to close for the day and open at night.
