Jeju casino allegedly recruits Macau people to solicit mainland Chinese gamblers

Jeju Dream Tower, an integrated resort owned by South Korea’s Lotte Tour Limited, has allegedly recruited about a hundred Chinese employees, most of whom are Macau citizens, to engage in telemarketing targeting mainland Chinese gamblers, according to an investigation by Allin Media’s correspondent in South Korea.

Macau’s May gaming revenues lower than expected

Macau’s casinos net a total of 15.5 billion patacas in gaming revenues in May, representing a slight increase of 5.7% month-on-month. Despite the increase, gaming analysts were disappointed by the performance as the month of May used to see a surge in gaming revenues, thanks to the Labour Day golden week holiday.

Jailed ‘junket king’ Alvin Chau issues apology to former employees for wage arrears

The founder of the now defunct Suncity Group, Alvin Chau Cheok-wa – who was sentenced in January to 18 years in jail for more than 100 charges including organised crime and illegal gaming – has issued a written apology to his former employees for not being able to pay their overdue wages, according to a news report by Hong Kong-based Singtao Headline.

Macau Legend intends to sell Laos casino resort for HK$ 350m to finance Macau business operation

Macau Legend Development Ltd has announced that the firm intends to sell Savan Legend, an integrated resort and casino located in Laos, for a preliminary agreed disposal price of US$ 45 million (approximately HK$ 350 million). Although the property in Laos was profit-making in the 2022 financial year, its financial performance was not stable and business operations were subject to increasingly stringent restrictions in Laos, thereby limiting future profitability, according to a statement by Macau legend.

MGM China (2282) announced on Monday (15 May) that it has granted a total of 100,000 stock options to two grantees to subscribe for shares of $1.00 each in the capital of the Company at a subscription price of $9.09 per share. Galaxy Entertainment nets HK$6.07 billion in Q1 gaming revenue

Macao casino operator Galaxy Entertainment announced on Monday (22 May) that the group’s net revenues in the first quarter of the year stood at HK$7.05 billion (adjusted EBITDA stood at HK$1.91 billion), up by 142% compared with the previous quarter. Meanwhile total gross gaming revenues in the first quarter hit HK$6.07 billion, representing a 2.3-fold increase compared with the previous quarter.

Gaming regulator blames security staff shortages for mob scuffle in casino

Nearly ten thousand runners take part in the “2023 Sands China Macau International 10K”

The 2023 Sands China Macao International 10K, organized by the Sports Bureau and the General Association of Athletics of Macau, under the title sponsorship of Sands China, concluded successfully on Sunday (19 March). It was divided into ten-kilometer long run and fun run (about five-kilometer) for the competition. The event is the first long running tournament since the relaxation of epidemic prevention restrictions.

The tournament attracted nearly 10,000 runners to participate. The venue of the 10km race was Sai Van Lake Plaza. The match run through the Sai Van Bridge and ended at the Olympic Sports Stadium.

In the meantime, in order to encourage people to take up daily sport and let more citizens and visitors feel the atmosphere of the annual sports events in Macau, Sands launched a parent-child sports day on March 17-19. It also set up an interactive experience area in the Venetian, including two running experience devices and DIY medal drawing workshops. The on-the-ground atmosphere was very active and children could also collect beautiful souvenir by participating in interactive games.

South Korea to exempt all Chinese visitors from Covid test certificate starting from 11 March

The South Korean government announced on Wednesday (8 March) that effective from this Saturday (11 March), Chinese tourists including Hong Kong and Macau will no longer be required to submit a COVID-19 virus test certificate or present a negative test certificate at clinics or hospitals within 24 hours upon arrival, while canceling measures to upload a negative result to Q-CODE, but Hong Kong and Macau tourists still need to complete the application for an e-travel permit K-ETA 72 hours before departure.
