Founded in 1955, Geographical, Geological & Archaeological Society SSS HKUSU (“GGAS”, formerly Geographical, Geological & Archaeological Society AA HKUSU) has been one of the oldest societies in continuous operation in the University of Hong Kong. Despite having gone through some challenging times in the past half-century, the Society’s goal to serve Members to the h

ighest standards has never been wavered, and shall remain immutable for the foreseeable future. The transition in affiliation from Arts Association HKUSU to Social Sciences Society HKUSU in 2008 embodies a new beginning for the Society to thrive again and reach new zenith. At GGAS, we believe that zeal is the key to success. As inscribed in the Society’s constitution, the Society not only aims to cultivate Members’ interests and knowledge in Geography, Geology and Archaeology, but we are also committed to developing social awareness among our Members, especially social issues that are related to Geography, Geology and Archaeology. Our zeal is inherent in everything we do, from publishing news bulletin to organizing large-scale events such as the Orientation Series. It is this spirit that keeps us together, that empowers us to serve our Members, and to care for the community.

河口嘅水由不同嘅河流匯合而成🛶，有如我哋會結合唔同人嘅經驗及意見，去為大家舉辦更好嘅活動🫶🏻另外，Estuario作為河流同大海之間嘅橋樑🌉，都象徵着我哋會成為連接大家嘅橋樑，令大家更加享受大學生活☺️

Estuario means “estuary” in Spanish! 🇪🇸

So why Estuario⁉️

The water in an Estuario is formed by the convergence of different rivers 🛶, much like how we’ll bring together everyone’s experiences and ideas to organize even better events for you all. 🫶🏻 Additionally, as an Estuario serves as a bridge between rivers and the sea 🌉, it symbolizes how we will act as a bridge between everyone, helping you enjoy your university life even more. ☺️

[GGAS] Notice of Reopening Nomination for Executive Committee of Geographical, Geological & Archaeological Society SSS, Session 2024–2025

Dear Privileged Members,

The nomination of the following posts for Geographical, Geological & Archaeological Society SSS, Session 2024–2025 are reopened from 00:00 of 9 November 2024 midnight to 23:59 of 11 November 2024.

The following posts are reopened for nomination:

a. Social Secretary

b. External Secretary

Nomination forms will be made available by contacting our Chairperson Lo Ho Oscar by email ([email protected]). Please be reminded that any nomination must be proposed and seconded by full members of the Society and in accordance with the relevant articles in the General Polling and Election Regulation of Social Sciences Society HKU and the Constitution of the Society. The nomination shall be valid only when the hard copy of the nomination form is properly filled in and received by any Executive Committee member before the end of the extend of nomination period. The names of candidates will be announced within 12 hours after the closing of the extend of nomination period.

Election of Executive Committee members and Year Representatives will be conducted in the Annual General Meeting at 19:30 on 20 November 2024. All members are welcomed to attend the meeting. Autumn is coming! With the crisp autumn air 🍂, if you’re not in the mood for hiking, what else can you do🧐? It’s definitely a good time to head out to sea and chill while enjoying the scenery🌊!

Our boat trip at the end of October will take you to the Sai Kung Geopark, where you can get a close-up view of the hexagonal rock columns, sea arches, sea caves, tombolos, and other geological formations🤩. Plus, Prof. Jimmy Li, from HKU Geography Department, will be giving live commentary!

The 2024 GGAS OCamp was successfully held on 18–20/8/2024! 🎉 The success of the event was due to the active participation of freshmen and the amazing support from Jobama and OC! 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏻‍♂️

The three-day, two-night event was packed with fun activities! 😋 There were mass games, field trips, water games, campfires, and more! Take a look at this post to refresh those memories! 😚

We hope freshmen made new friends during the OCamp 🤝🏻 and deepened their understanding of HKU and geographical knowledge! Most importantly, we hope everyone had a blast! 💚💙💜❤️
