Joel has been a journalist for just over six years working in broadcast and print media and has contributed significantly to the development of his community, as he was able to utilize his journalism platform to highlight issues plaguing his community (Crane Housing Scheme) located in Region Three (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara). His coverage caught the attention of the former Minister of Public Infrastructure and the Best/Klein Pouderyon Neighbour Democratic Council, resulting in the repairs of the roads in 2019, after years of repeated complaints by residents.

As a journalist, he also covered stories on health and crime, as well as highlighting the work done by youths.

He also launched the The “With You Foundation”, a non-governmental organisation in late 2022, after experiencing the pain of grief, due to the loss of his mother.
