-demand vessel recovery and release of jailed crew

Relatives of victims of the MV Barima disaster returned to protest outside the Office of the President yesterday, vowing to continue demonstrating every Tuesday until their demands for the recovery of the boat, the release of jailed crew members and the removal of two government ministers are addressed.

Representatives of the Cort family, the Thomas family, and supporters of Goods Superintendent Delon Granderson, were among those represented at the demonstration.

Students at the D.C. Caesar-Fox Secondary School in Waramadong, Region Seven, are reportedly using plastic sheets and cloth as a makeshift bathroom, while the institution remains without a dining hall and reliable facilities for washing clothes.

The concerns were raised yesterday by former staff member Chris Elliman following a visit to the school with parents of students from Paruima.

In a Facebook post, Elliman said the parents accompanied their children when they returned to school on Tuesday because they wanted to examine conditions which had recently attracted media attention.
