Westwood said the number of companies drilling HI wells has decreased by 50% between 2010 and 2014, and 2020 and 2024. Shearman reported, “One hundred and thirty six companies have exited exploration completely and another 102 remain in exploration but didn’t drill any HI wells in 2020–2024.” Only 17 newly created companies drilled HI wells in the past five years and still exist today.

Parsram said drilling is “one of the most critical and most likely risky areas”, and that the agency now requires much more detailed information from operators. He explained that the EPA requires “daily production reports and detailed updates on every well drilled, including remote operated vehicle (ROV) imagery to confirm that there is no obstruction or damage.”

Worrell started as a housekeeper at Newrest, where he often asked colleagues how they had moved into higher roles.

Ghana-based Cybele Energy Limited is set to sign a petroleum agreement on Tuesday, December 9, to explore for oil and gas offshore Guyana. This will be the second block awarded from the country’s first competitive offshore auction.

The ceremony will take place at the Pegasus Suites and Corporate Centre in Georgetown, where the government will issue Cybele the shallow-water Block S7.

Eco (Atlantic) Oil & Gas said on Thursday that Israel’s Navitas Petroleum has agreed to pay up to US$8.5 million for options to farm-in to offshore licenses in Guyana and South Africa, in a deal that could see Navitas take operatorship and fund most early exploration work.

Eco said Navitas will pay US$2 million for exclusive options over the Orinduik Block offshore Guyana and Block 1 in South Africa’s Orange Basin.

SBM Offshore Guyana and MODEC Guyana were recognized for their contributions to national development and workforce expansion at the Guyana Oil and Gas Energy Chamber’s (GOGEC) 2025 Annual Awards and Induction Dinner on November 28.

SBM Offshore Guyana received the Excellence in Offshore Operations and National Development Award. GOGEC said the company has set “industry benchmarks in safety, efficiency, and innovation through its dedicated offshore and onshore workforce.”
