This village which is located about 75 miles up the Canje Creek in Region Six, is home to a population of mostly Afro-Guyanese descendants, many of whom trace their roots back to the period following emancipation.

The community is largely self-sufficient, with residents engaged in activities such as farming, fishing, and small-scale logging.

The fertile land and proximity to the creek make agriculture a primary occupation, with cassava, plantains, and other crops commonly grown.

Police are actively investigating a fatal shooting incident that occurred early this morning at Lot 23 D’Urban Street, Lodge, Georgetown. The incident, which took place around 05:45 hrs, claimed the life of 40-year-old Anthony Havescomes, a vendor from South Ruimveldt.

Havescomes was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Several other individuals were also injured in the attack and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a lit electrical stove that had been left unattended. Naked flames from the stove ignited a nearby window curtain, which rapidly spread to other combustible materials within the house. Firefighters used one jet from Water Tender #69 and two additional jets from a garden light pump utilizing an open water source to bring the fire under control.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the incident. However, the fire has left Michael Primo and his family without a home. The Guyana Fire Service is assisting the family with temporary shelter and other necessities.

As a result of the collision, Sheron Munroe was thrown onto the road and sustained severe injuries. Passersby quickly responded and transported her to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Munroe was pronounced dead approximately one and a half hours after the incident.

The driver of the motor car, Shamaul Rohan Sahadeo, along with the car’s occupant, Agardeo Sahadeo, were also taken to the Fort Wellington Public Hospital for treatment. Their current conditions are not known at this time.

Police ranks visited the location where they found the partly decomposed body of a female, believed to be of Mixed ancestry and between the ages of 30 and 40, floating face-down in a trench alongside the Eccles dumpsite road.

The body was fished out and examined by the CSI rank, and what appeared to be blood and water were flowing from the nostrils.

During the search in the home of Hartman, Police found a transparent plastic containing a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be Cannabis. Hartman told the Police that the ma*****na was not his but belonged to his father.

Further searches were conducted in the backyard, during which Police found seven transparent zip-lock bags of Cannabis. Hartman was told of the offence, cautioned and arrested.

A further search was conducted in the yard and at the home of Hartman’s neighbour Akeem Bovell, age 24, during which Police observed a rope about three feet in length on the zinc fence in the back yard. One of the ranks pulled the rope, which was partly hanging over Bovell’s zinc fence, and a multi-coloured handbag with the rope tied on both handbag handles was observed.

𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 || Police Sergeant Anthony Sulker has just passed away at the Georgetown Public Hospital while receiving medical treatment after consuming poison.

Sulker was the prime suspect in the murder of Attorney at Law Richard Layne, who was discovered dead in his car on Wednesday night.

At about 13:00 hrs today (August 9th 2024), the mother of the deceased, Penelope Lewis, age 66 years, contacted the police and reported that on the date and time mentioned, she was about to leave her deceased son’s residence at Lot 183 Century Palm D’Urban Backlands when she observed Sulker drove into the yard at a fast rate and parked his car in the garage.

She said she immediately sensed something was wrong and decided to turn back. When she got to the house, she observed Sulker lying at the door on the bottom flat of the said house with what appeared to be vomit and a green substance about his body. She immediately called the ambulance, and EMT from Central Fire Service responded. Sulker was escorted to the GPHC, where he is currently receiving treatment. His condition is critical.
