SHORT STORY 'ME FUSS FINERAL' BY RAE WILTSHIRE - AN EXCERPT
In Me Fuss Funeral by the gifted Guyanese writer Rae Wiltshire, a child narrator is used effectively to relate the goings on in the family when a funeral has to be dealt with. The child’s voice and naive, but playful, character lend humour to the tale. ▶Press play to listen to the excerpt.
Rae Wiltshire has also started The Georgetown Festival which will screen 18 films by a group of young creatives this year. To follow the festival’s progress, like and follow his page on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/georgetownfilmfestival or follow on IG @thegeorgetownfilmfestival

Who Was Wordsworth McAndrew?
To kick off The Guyana Annual’s Celebrate and Remember series we feature the great folklorist Wordsworth McAndrew who passed in 2008. Through his tireless work, he helped Guyanese “celebrate our common roots”. As stated in his obituary “His work is not for one generation.” Learn a bit about him here.
“Wordworth McAndrew was a folklorist, poet, performer and radio personality. He had an absolute love for Guyanese “culchuh” and infinite interest in every variant of every tradition (queh queh, obeah, cumfa, dig dutty), song, story, game, way of cooking, eating, celebrating and so on that Guyanese of every ethnic group had inherited and transformed. ‘Mac’ was unparalleled and his gifts to Guyana considerable.” (Rickford, 2008) “He gave us a great sense of our own self-worth.” (Sanders, 2008)
Information contained in this video was sourced from the writings of Vibert Cambridge, Roy Brummel and Wordsworth McAndrew’s Homegoing Celebration manuscript, 2008.
Video features music from the Emmel Singers – Bamboo Fire And Other Folk Songs Of Guyana - HAS 1187 LP, Terry Gajraj - Indian Wedding (Ketcha Bai & ketcha gal) and audio from 'Wordsworth McAndrew' by editfilm1 on YouTube (April, 2008).
Photos and a painting were sourced from rosiemcandrewwriting.com. Portrait done by John Criswick of Mac in his Blue Dashiki.
