Today was a truly beautiful day, filled with hope and awareness. A symposium on Mental Health and HIV/AIDS awareness was held at OLMC Gymnasium on December 2, 2024. The theme of the event, "𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝑯𝒊𝒅𝒆? 𝑺𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒌!", resonated throughout the day, encouraging open dialogue and understanding.
According to data released on January 31, 2024, there were 138 reported HIV cases in the Province of Eastern Samar from 1984 to September 2023. This sobering statistic highlights the importance of HIV/AIDS awareness, a message emphasized by Dr. Samuel Baldono, one of the guest speakers, this morning. He stressed that prevention is paramount, reminding the audience that 'prevention is better than cure.' Dr. Baldono also highlighted the crucial role of knowledge, especially for students and teenagers, as understanding the virus is essential. He concluded by urging everyone to learn more about HIV/AIDS, take care of their health, and remain vigilant.
Mental health is a prevalent issue, particularly affecting students in our country. This afternoon, Nurse Alessa Jamyl B. Ypil shed light on Mental Health Awareness, discussing various mental health challenges such as bipolar disorder, anxiety, and PTSD. She explored potential causes that can contribute to mental health deterioration and shared possible preventative measures to address these issues. To ensure understanding, she concluded her presentation with a question-and-answer session, allowing students to engage with the information and clarify any doubts.
