Living PostCards from Greece | The church of Paraportiani, Mykonos

This is the most popular and most photographed of the 400 churches on the whole island of Mykonos. What makes this church so unique is its construction which is an assymetrical conglomeration of 4 churches into one. Notice the 4 different architectural styles mixing Byzantine, vernacular, traditional and western style.

Panagia Poulati was built in 1870 and it operated in 1875.
It is very impressive when you watch it from above, standing white with its big blue dome. Many people take cool dips in the fully-green waters beneath the church.

Η αγελάδα στην Ινδία θεωρείται ζώο ιερό. Για τους Ινδουιστές, το μηρυκαστικό αυτό είναι η "μητέρα" του πολιτισμού".
Το κρέας της δεν καταναλώνεται, καθώς στην πλειονότητα των κρατιδίων της Ινδίας η σφαγή της είναι παράνομη και τιμωρείται με έως και 10 χρόνια φυλάκισης.
Από το ζώο εκμεταλλεύονται μόνο το γάλα που παράγει και την κοπριά του που χρησιμοποιείται ως καύσιμη ύλη και ως λίπασμα.
Όταν το ζώο πάψει να είναι παραγωγικό, δεν καταδικάζεται σε θάνατο αφού αυτό αποτελεί αδικήμα. Περιφέρεται στους συνωστισμένους δρόμους ως θεότητα, υπεράνω όλων.
Η ιερότητα του ζώου κρατά από την εποχή των βεδουίνων ενώ πολλά είναι και τα θρησκευτικά φεστιβάλ όπου οι τιμώμενες θεότητες στολίζονται γιορτινά και λατρεύονται με διάφορα τελετουργικά.
