Odeon of Herodes Atticus
From Japan and Mexico to South America and every corner of Europe, Septicflesh has spent two decades building a brilliant international career. The band has a large following that spans many parts of the globe.
With 9 albums, countless concerts, continuous world tours, and participation in international festivals, Septicflesh boasts 24 years in the global rock/metal music scene. They are signed with Nuclear Blast Records, one of the biggest rock/metal labels based in Germany. Their latest album, "Modern Primitive," received widespread acclaim.
The band enjoys international recognition, highlighted by the inclusion of sheet music from four of their compositions in the prestigious Berklee College of Music's library for student study since 2021.
Septicflesh's live shows offer a unique aesthetic experience, blending theatricality with elements of Greek culture in lyrics and visuals. Their vision is to deliver an acoustically and visually perfect performance.
The 8th Classic Rock event will showcase a crossover project at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, where Septicflesh's rock and metal sounds will meet the symphonic tones of the Athens State Orchestra for the first time in Greece. The Piraeus Vocal Ensemble Libro Coro will also join this unique spectacle.
This project was previously performed in 2019 at the Metropolitan Theater of Mexico City with the Mexico Symphony Orchestra, featuring 140 musicians and a 40-member choir. The sold-out concert was attended by over 3,500 spectators.
The international reputation of Septicflesh and the prestige of the Athens State Orchestra, combined with the iconic location of the Odeon, will undoubtedly attract fans from other countries. There is also the potential for the concert to be recorded and released by a foreign record label, pending necessary approvals.
The production and ex*****on of Classic Rock 8 will be handled, as always, by the renowned company Robin 4 Arts GmbH on behalf of the Athens State Orchestra.
Biography
Septicflesh was formed in Greece in the early 1990s by Spyridon Antoniou (vocals/bass), Christos Antoniou (guitar), and Sotiris Vagenas (guitar/clean vocals). From their debut album "Mystic Places of Dawn," they experimented with soundtrack-like elements, particularly in the nine-minute instrumental "Mythos." Many of their lyrics are rooted in ancient mythology, with a strong emphasis on Greek culture—a theme that became more pronounced in their following album, "ΕΣΟΠΤΡΟΝ" ("Esoptron"), which had a more philosophical orientation.
The Greek cultural element is evident throughout their music, with tracks like “Morpheus the Dreamlord,” “Narcissus,” “Tartarus,” “Prometheus,” and “Martyr,” the latter referencing the pioneering mathematician and philosopher Hypatia.
Musically, the band has always incorporated symphonic music into its metal foundation, increasing this fusion over time. Early collaborations included operatic female vocals by Natalia Rassouli, daughter of the late lyricist Manolis Rassoulis. For the past seven releases, they have maintained a steady partnership with the Filmharmonic Orchestra of Prague.
Christos Antoniou holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music Composition from the London College of Music and a Master’s degree in Composition and Orchestration. His professors included Adam Gorb, head of composition at the Royal Northern College of Music.
Aside from composing music, Spyridon Antoniou graduated with honors from the Athens School of Fine Arts, studying under prominent Greek artists, and later pursued photography.
