I have a feeling we"ll never grow tired of it...

We are averging around 20 nautical miles a day without the stinky, polluting, hot pile of metal (read engine). Sail only, we love everything about it.

Today we had another gorgeous sunset in a beautiful bay πŸ₯°.

So after the horrendous engine 😑 died again... We decided to SAIL only to Turkey.
This also means pull up and drop the anchorage under sail!

Luckily there is loads of wind, yesterday we had a force 7*, near gale. And of course some heavy katabatics from another angle. πŸ˜•

It's hard not to luff the Genoa when the wind comes from different directions. And she ripped unfortunately... πŸ™„ So we had to sail and anchor with a ripped genoa... (she was already 42 years old)

BUT apparently we have an unused on board πŸ˜ƒ. We are waiting for a gap in the wind to quickly exchange them.

Pretty exciting and teeth clenching all. But an amazing learning experience. 🀘

DAMAGE so far:
Ripped Genny,
Anchor locker cover ripped out
Fearlead snapped and fell in So after the horrendous engine died again...
We decided to sail to Turkey.
This also means pull up and drop the anchorage under sail! πŸ’ͺ

LEARNED:
How to use the katabatics in our favour.

FIRST TIME:
2 days no alcohol 😱
Got to love boatlife πŸ₯°

*(Force 7: 28, 33 knots = 50,60km/h)

Someone goes crazy when it blows a hoolie outside...

Fun fact this little one slept through our almost knockdown a few days ago.

The content of the boat flew around but Styx was still in his spot super chilled out.

Bye bye mainland Greece. Next mainland we"ll set foot and 🐾on will be Turkey.

Yesterday we had the feeling you didn't want to let us go after that almost knockdown (touching the sea with our masts) due to the huuuuuge swell on the beam + katabatic
The rumbling, gusting, lightening fast wind that tumbels down the top of the mountain... that was intense!

But hey! You"re dealing with our Mutinous floating lady and her three mutineers here. Boy does she proof herself over and over again! So in love with her πŸ’ž πŸ˜‰.

We"ll keep heading East and probably find shelter for the upcoming storm. Or should we go out and test our sea anchor? Have we been reading too much storm tactics by Lin and Larry Pardey? πŸ€”

23/09/2021

Heavy weather...
Unfortunately the more protected quay was full.

Therefore we had to take another one, which is more exposed to the elements.
The end of the storm should be near...

Can not wait for this washing machine of a boat to end the washing cycle. Even if it is only for a few hours. πŸ˜‰

Heave to, blow the foghorn and grab life by the balls!

We finally have a PLAN 😱. πŸ€ͺ We are going to Turkey.

We didn't make it to Palairos because that would be way too fun and we would lose too many windy days of it probably πŸ˜ƒ. And saying goodbye is always tough...

Palerianos! We had a blast for the last 2,5 years there. All you lovely, crazy people made it a home away from home. Incredibly hard to leave the Paleros bubble...

We learned loads about sailboats, even bought one and are living on it for two years already πŸ˜‚. We couldn't have done it without your help. We are exactly in life where we aimed for. There is only more adventures to come.

Beautiful people of Paleiros; great memories have been made! We are going to MISS YOU. You always stay in our hearts and minds. You are our chosen pirate family. We love you! πŸ₯°πŸ’œπŸ–€πŸ’•

The first time of many things... that's definitely our line of this second year as a liveboard.

Cleaned out our diesel tank today...
We're pretty happy with our big inspection cap. It's super easy to get in there and clean out all the sludge.

In the second picture you can see the diesel in the bucket. Look at that color?!?
Appearantly it's black diesel... No idea where we got that from.

We are ready for a full refill and we"ll put some fuel set in there to prevent any possible dirt issues. Love that stuff!

🍻 Hell we did! Actually we sailed quite quick underneath it...

Maybe there were some kids in the backseat of the car on the bridge wondering and fantasizing about sailing and living on a boat. Just like ourselves a few years ago.

Sometimes the grass is greener at the other side or let's say bluer πŸ˜‰.

The time is now, later is getting too close.

Thanks
and for the lovely generous welcome gift.

We just arrived in stunning Diakopto and rowed to shore with our dinghy to do some shopping.

When we returned to our dinghy there was a plastic bag with some goodies in it. We didn't know what to think till we saw these two friendly people smiling and telling us it was a gift.

A beautiful drawing of the little one, tasty bottle of red wine and some delicious chocolates. Exactly what we like.

There are some beautiful souls on this planet 😍πŸ₯°.

Cheers and thanks again. 🍷

!!!FREEDOM!!! 😁😁😁
After having to wait 5 weeks on a quay in Lefkas.
Our engine is back in. Unfortunately the heat exchanger is still leaking a little bit. our engineer tried to weld it but it's a very tough job.

We"ll try to fix it with some Sikaflex if that doesn't hold we have some metal epoxy just in case.

Most importantly WE ARE FREE again.

In this case I saw a wind scoop in an abandoned life raft. (on the boatyard to be clear πŸ˜‰)

It's not gonna win a beauty contest, but it works like a charm, especially when at anchor. Which we hope to do soon before we go insane... πŸ€ͺ

Oh yeah... and we painted the deck too. Terracotta, not only does it match the wind scoop it also goes very well with the big blue.

Do you know that "hopefully" once in a lifetime moment 🀞 of suddenly having to spend an outrageous fortune in a heartbeat?

😳😱OUCH 😳😱
Yup this is an update about our engine...

But nothing else to do than accept this situation and be happy it happened here in moderate conditions where we know some incredible helpful people. πŸ™

It could always be worse right? And an example of how not all unicorns πŸ¦„ fart rainbows 🌈 when living on a boat.

Here are some pics for the curious...
In the first one the heat exchanger, it had a crack which has been welded.
❓A few months ago, I did ask the former owner if it was needed to take it off and clean it.

He said there was no need because it had been done by a professional not that long ago.

On the second picture the piston.
The -Perkins doctor- engineer πŸ‘¨β€βš•οΈ told us, that the ring on one of the pistons had been repaired before. (Before we owned Mutiny)

PIC 3
The big problem was that the specific ring had the wrong size and damaged the cylinder.

PIC 4
Furthermore the teflon on the clutch was ripped out and the starter motor will be inspected too.

PIC 5
Snooping around the big engine workshop. 😁

Learning point?
We should have checked the heat exchanger and cleaned it. Even though others tell you it is fine, double check anyhow... Better save than sorry...

We made the right decision by hauling it out and have it taken apart. Otherwise we wouldn't know about the wrong sized ring on the piston that damaged the cylinder.

At least now we know we can trust her. After all she will be completely rebuild and will be as good as new. She will definitely go for another 50 years we were told... Maybe she'll survive us πŸ€ͺ

...UPDATE on our Perkins that just seized while running last week...
..THE VERDICT HAS FALLEN...
Water entered the pistons via the heat exchanger. The flywheel disk and gearbox are broken...

She is a great engine, already 42 years old... Luckily it happened here where we know people and not in the middle of the ocean or somewhere where we can't get the parts.

At least she will be completely dismantled and rebuild and we"ll be able to rely on her. Always look on the bright side right? Gotta lo...ve boatlife... πŸ˜‰

Maybe it's my dad's way to make sure the engine works when we need it. πŸ’œπŸ–€
