TITTLE: TOBACCO-HUMAN'S LIVING ENEMY

The direct or indirect dealing with To***co could be characterized in the daily routine of most Gambians of our generation. As a result, To***co usage has deep-rooted effect in our society even though the eye-opened consequences it linger down are clearly seen at almost every blink of an eye, both in once's hood of dwelling or another's .

Globally, To***co is the only legal product that is sold and in entirety, causes drastic and immeasurable consequences to one's social and economic wellbeing. This could be evidenced by the presence of numerous users of To***co in our society with attributes of social and economic implications.

It is globally proven by World Health Organization and partners towards health advancement that To***co burden globally is extremely scary and disastrous. To***co kills about 7 million people annually and about 600,000 die as a result of passive smoking. This is scary and threatening in the context of Gambian societies where almost everyone is expose to second-hand smoking. The best way to avoid this great figures of death could simply be to completely avoid To***co usage.

Away from the scary figures of annual deaths, the diseases which facilitate the deaths would equally be paramount and ought to be explained. In The Gambia, To***co causes majorly four (4) different health complications but surpasses this number. This complications include but not limited to: hypertension, diabetes, cancers(of different kinds), and chronic respiratory diseases. This complications results to the death of many people globally and sowed many socio-economic complications.

Apart from taking lives through diseases and other related factors, to***co usage has series of negative results in the wellbeing of those living, and the country at large . From an unexpected deaths, increase in criminal acts, increase of widows in number, decrease in a country's workforce and also making some men impotent are all negative red lines drawn by To***co usage.

To speak comfortably about To***co is complicated in make-up hence the world's most powerful countries are ones majorly involved in the processing and shipping of To***co for consumption. However, what is certain and also globally accepted by even those involve in processing it remain that: To***co has no importance to human body but rather, destroys it in entirety. It kills!

In conclusion , The Gambia as a nation through Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and satellite organizations in close efforts, documented an act called "To***co Control Act 2016" to control the usage of to***co under the guidance of law by making and smartly giving guidelines as to how certain issues regarding to***co usage should be carried out as regulated in the regulations 2019. This act should be acquired, loved and appreciated by all and sundry to help in the crusade towards making The Gambia as a nation a to***co-free country. The Gambia with such a small population cannot continue to afford losing souls of essence or would-be, to the achievement of our development priorities. To***co is with us, it is living. We can only fight it together. Let the crusade starts!

A Poem By:

_Tittle: She is Just a teenager_

You had s*x with her
When it cannot fit
She cries, leans and sits
In pain she bends
In thought she faints
Yet with no emotions,
Her seal you break
When She is just a teenager

In the view of the elderly
She is in fact a toddler
Yet you inflict pain on her
like a Jungler
"Jeh Nakebaaa wobula"
"Etehsona mina etalla"
"Ka**ke wanditallula"
Cruel in action but in appearance you look humbler
With no mercy you exploit
When she is a just a teenager

With force you pe*****te
Spill her blood with no regret
You see her now
She is isolate

You make her life undecided
Her future unpredicted
Her thoughts undirected
Confused and frustrated
For the trauma she faces,
Is unending
And the deed is unforgiving
It follows you and some keep pending

You Mr. Man!
How I wish!
How I wish the law bites you
Itches you, squeezes you and dishes you
Above all, grain and drain you.

With pain,
You make her taste
What she supposed not to
I talk to her, she gets vex
That she isn't use to
Her personality you change
Why did you have to?

Ohh Justice, Justice!
The only way out
Not merely by words, but by action
By that, the underage can be protected!

*THE SOCIETY AM LIVING IN*

Poem:
*AMINATTA NANKO* :
The Society am living in ,
The poor are voiceless,
powerless And helpless .
Families are quarreling screaming , struggling for fish .
Whilst some of the Rich's are heartless
And selfish .

The poor have no job but the hard labour
Just for living.
What they earn is hand to mouth.
The Society am living in ,
Is the survival of the fittest.

See the Society am living,
I can stand and count the numbers of people
Who are having good jobs
And those who has it ,
Are just sitting in Offices chatting and drinking teas,
At the end of the months .
They fill up their puckets and bank accounts

They end up chilling driving range rovers
land rovers and they keep throwing dust in our eyes .
What they have to say , is hello hi bye bye! .
They have no solutions to our problems
Neither for them to socialize with people.

The youth are smoking, winning and sitting at the Ghettos ,
Dreaming to be in Babylon .
The young girls need no men but rich men .
The Society am living in ,
" Mol dagi gol la faling ta .
Walatina fundinke nya
Matol siyata " .
The Society am living in , " a kawa kuwol siyata " .

It is an established fact that the society I am living in, has numerous attributes both in common and in differences, to the societies that have existed prior to the advent of modern civilization. This therefore makes it evident enough for every modern being who dwells in my society to see without end; the bad and the good that dictates our life and livelihood daily.

The society I am living in is one of the most corrupt society in the world. In an uncontrolled meditation, I can figure the most celebrated figures in my society as corrupt people. Interestingly, the government in my society pays little or no major concern to such individuals for their concern is petty corruption and people engaged in petty crimes.

Due to their corrupt nature both in theory and in practical; they keep buying lands and cars whiles the poor man's future remains undecided. Does it make sense for someone who earns less than D10,000 per month to build mansions and own cars as if the countries financial institutions belongs to him or her? The unavailability of a proper and efficient anti-corruption agency makes corruption a business expense in my society. This grossly have an impact on my society's development.

My society is becoming a very wicked one. It is scolded by corruption and other vices. As a result, inhabitants of my society are becoming less humanitarian as they were before. The rich are getting richer and the poor still occupy the bottom. Sadly enough, the rich doesn't want to render help to the poor and some of the poor are sitting frustratingly in their houses waiting for time. Vividly, I can see the poor parents of my society comfortably sitting with all their hardships; making no effort in schooling their siblings or engaging them in any skill related training to have a protective future. In addition, the rich ones with all their luxury cannot even at once endeavor to school a poor child from a poor background. What an unfortunate society I am!

My Society has now become a home of criminal both in thought and in practice . A criminal in thought is someone who has no sense of positive direction towards people's relationship, communities wellbeing, and the nation growth. But rather, they gossip and destroy relationships, friendships, discourage people from taking part effectively towards national development. On the other hand, the criminal in practice steals, kills and above all launder money and loot resources. Such are in fact the ones making life frustrating in my society.

In my society, most of those that we consider as educated are actually dunce educators. What is the essence of an education which doesn't change hearts and minds fundamentally. A truly educated person lives by conduct and not by words. In fact, it is not only those who steal mobile phones who are thieves but also includes those who meander projects in offices for their own selfish interests in offices.

My society has lot of problems but actually when viewed carefully, doesn't have any. It does not have any problem because whatever challenge it faces all boils down to the activities of its inhabitants. To simply put, we are not true to ourselves and it is only when we are, that we will be assured of a developed society. If everyone is change for good both in thoughts and practice, the society will surely glitter.

Don't be corrupt, be good to the poor, don't litter and my society will surely smile again.
