*THE SOCIETY AM LIVING IN*
Poem:
*AMINATTA NANKO* :
The Society am living in ,
The poor are voiceless,
powerless And helpless .
Families are quarreling screaming , struggling for fish .
Whilst some of the Rich's are heartless
And selfish .
The poor have no job but the hard labour
Just for living.
What they earn is hand to mouth.
The Society am living in ,
Is the survival of the fittest.
See the Society am living,
I can stand and count the numbers of people
Who are having good jobs
And those who has it ,
Are just sitting in Offices chatting and drinking teas,
At the end of the months .
They fill up their puckets and bank accounts
They end up chilling driving range rovers
land rovers and they keep throwing dust in our eyes .
What they have to say , is hello hi bye bye! .
They have no solutions to our problems
Neither for them to socialize with people.
The youth are smoking, winning and sitting at the Ghettos ,
Dreaming to be in Babylon .
The young girls need no men but rich men .
The Society am living in ,
" Mol dagi gol la faling ta .
Walatina fundinke nya
Matol siyata " .
The Society am living in , " a kawa kuwol siyata " .

It is an established fact that the society I am living in, has numerous attributes both in common and in differences, to the societies that have existed prior to the advent of modern civilization. This therefore makes it evident enough for every modern being who dwells in my society to see without end; the bad and the good that dictates our life and livelihood daily.
The society I am living in is one of the most corrupt society in the world. In an uncontrolled meditation, I can figure the most celebrated figures in my society as corrupt people. Interestingly, the government in my society pays little or no major concern to such individuals for their concern is petty corruption and people engaged in petty crimes.
Due to their corrupt nature both in theory and in practical; they keep buying lands and cars whiles the poor man's future remains undecided. Does it make sense for someone who earns less than D10,000 per month to build mansions and own cars as if the countries financial institutions belongs to him or her? The unavailability of a proper and efficient anti-corruption agency makes corruption a business expense in my society. This grossly have an impact on my society's development.
My society is becoming a very wicked one. It is scolded by corruption and other vices. As a result, inhabitants of my society are becoming less humanitarian as they were before. The rich are getting richer and the poor still occupy the bottom. Sadly enough, the rich doesn't want to render help to the poor and some of the poor are sitting frustratingly in their houses waiting for time. Vividly, I can see the poor parents of my society comfortably sitting with all their hardships; making no effort in schooling their siblings or engaging them in any skill related training to have a protective future. In addition, the rich ones with all their luxury cannot even at once endeavor to school a poor child from a poor background. What an unfortunate society I am!
My Society has now become a home of criminal both in thought and in practice . A criminal in thought is someone who has no sense of positive direction towards people's relationship, communities wellbeing, and the nation growth. But rather, they gossip and destroy relationships, friendships, discourage people from taking part effectively towards national development. On the other hand, the criminal in practice steals, kills and above all launder money and loot resources. Such are in fact the ones making life frustrating in my society.
In my society, most of those that we consider as educated are actually dunce educators. What is the essence of an education which doesn't change hearts and minds fundamentally. A truly educated person lives by conduct and not by words. In fact, it is not only those who steal mobile phones who are thieves but also includes those who meander projects in offices for their own selfish interests in offices.
My society has lot of problems but actually when viewed carefully, doesn't have any. It does not have any problem because whatever challenge it faces all boils down to the activities of its inhabitants. To simply put, we are not true to ourselves and it is only when we are, that we will be assured of a developed society. If everyone is change for good both in thoughts and practice, the society will surely glitter.
Don't be corrupt, be good to the poor, don't litter and my society will surely smile again.
