A slum where dreams were scarce, life was rough,
But at eleven, my auntie took me on a flight,
To The Gambia, where a new world came into sight.

In The Gambia, a new culture, a new day,
A chance to learn, to grow, to find my way,
But labels as a foreigner, they stung like a bee,
I carried the weight, but I remained free.

I sell ice to cool the heat of the day,
In the market stalls, where I always stay,
And in Alvihaj mini, I work for my keep,
In The Gambia, my dreams run deep.

Popcorn popping, commissions flowing,
Through the hustle and grind, my spirit's growing,
Surviving and thriving, that's my way,
In The Gambia, I found my place to stay.

Through all the struggles, I pursued my dreams,

I went to school, came out with flying colors,
Education's power, breaking all the borders.
