NDOWโS BACKS DOWN FOR GSSS AT QUALIFYING ROUND
The qualifying round for the Principals Tournament has started off last Tuesday at the L.K. football field with schools in Region one playing to secure position in this yearโs season tournament. Both the male and female football teams of the Gambia Senior Secondary School were up and ready to face their opponent team ,but the obvious happened, Ndowโs were nowhere to be seen for the Game.
In a frenzied atmosphere composed of various football teams and spectators waiting for the game, the Gambia Senior Secondary School could only see the referees on the field, Ndowโs Comprehensive Senior Secondary School were conspicuously absent with reasons best known to them.
Their team manager is reported to have said that nothing happened to them [Ndowโs] for not showing up at the match.
โโTheir coach was here during our training, and maybe seeing our wonderful performance compelled them not to play,โโ Mr. Mendy, the school teams' manager suggested.
In the meantime, both the male and female teams of the school have been awarded three points thereby qualifying them to the group stage while the absent teams, lost their place in the tournament.
However, Mr. Mendy is critical of the schoolโs male team. According to him the boys are improving but their behaviour towards games causes them [the male team] defeats sometimes. โโThey always underrate the schools they play with which is the main reason why they are sometimes beaten by minor schools.โโ He also accused that the boys donโt respond to trainings as expected.
