Alexander Stubb is a Finnish politician and academic who has held several prominent positions in Finnish and European politics. He was born on April 1, 1968, in Helsinki, Finland. Stubb holds a Master's degree in Political Science from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, and a Ph.D. in International Relations from the London School of Economics in the United Kingdom.
Stubb began his political career as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from 2004 to 2008, representing the National Coalition Party (NCP). He later served as Finland's Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2008 to 2011 and as Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade from 2011 to 2014.
In June 2014, Alexander Stubb became the Prime Minister of Finland, succeeding Jyrki Katainen. He led a center-right coalition government until May 2015. During his tenure as Prime Minister, Stubb advocated for economic reforms and closer European integration.
After his term as Prime Minister, Stubb returned to European politics. He served as Vice-President of the European Investment Bank (EIB) from 2017 to 2020. Additionally, he has been involved in various academic and advisory roles, including teaching at universities and contributing to think tanks.
