Must the Veep Resign in his bid to contest the flagbearership race or not?

I strongly believe that the Veep should step down if he intends to compete.

Some argue that the late Alhaji Aliu Mahama was not made to resign during his day's when he contested the bid in 2007 so why now?

The issue is this, an error in the past can be corrected now.

All appointees are supposed to resign if they wish to be part of the race according to the constitution of our Party. Even though the Constitution didn't specifically mention the portfolio of the Veep.

It is worthy to note that the Veep position is the number one and foremost Appointment the President ever makes even before winning the General election.

This in inference should automatically allow the Veep as the 1st appointee to step down if he wants to contest fairly.

This will allow him to concentrate on his campaign and also avoid abuse of incumbency power.

One can boldly say that due to his active participation in his bid to become the flagbearer, he has lost hold of the economy. He isn't able to concentrate on the no. 1 role given to him by the President as the head of the Economic Management Team.

The Veep as the Head of the Economic Management Team should currently be seen in holding much bigger lectures on the Economy than he did when we were in opposition. Holding emergency meetings in resolving our current crisis since the Economic Management is more practical than mere rhetoric.

He should be seen in working more closely with the Finance Minister in securing the IMF deal and also getting our External Creditors a deal to restructure our debt.

One can confidently say that the Veep being pressured by some people who want to continue benefitting from him on a personal level to contest in this race has rather ended up in letting him not concentrate on his core mandate given to him by his excellency the President.

If we as a party indeed want to Break the 8 very well, then we need to get the basics right as well.

I am not by this writeup saying that my camp is afraid of the Veep joining the race. No, and never will we be afraid. In fact, we gladly welcome his decision to join the race since he will take the opportunity to prepare himself after his Seniors have come and gone. Who knows, he is a fine material for the slot in some years to come but certainly not now.

However, the interest of the Party and the Country at large must always stand tall in every decision we seek to make.

You can also pen down your case and argument on this matter nicely.😊

Michael Osei Boateng Pope writes

The youth wing would be very pivotal in our quest to break the 8 years hoodoo.
It, therefore, requires someone who has the dogged energy, passion, communicability, and results-oriented to make this passionate quest a reality.

It also requires someone who will serve with humility, and proactiveness and also someone to bring good Hope to our teeming youth.

I, Michael Osei Boateng, stand out among my compatriots contending to be national youth organizers.

By this, I want to formally announce to all and sundry that I shall pick forms to contest as youth organizer of our great party.

I, plead with the party delegates especially the constituency youth organizers, regional youth organizers, branch youth organizer, and their deputies, MPs below 40s and Tescon to assess my records as former SRC president Sunyani Technical University, Bono-Ahafo youth organizer, former Ahafo regional organizer, and steady abilities to serve the party and give me the nod to come and make our party Youth great again to break the 8 years jinx

I call him a father and a mentor. A great inspiration for some of us growing up in the political arena. His leadership style is unique and exceptional. A man who knows what he is up to and does the needful no matter what it takes. He is a game changer who is ready to change the status quo for the betterment of future generations. The man who dares to challenge and correct the decayed system of our education sector. Ghana is indeed blessed to have you at this point in time. We are grateful for your selfless leadership. It is not surprising that you have earned for yourself the title Master Leader.

Happy birthday Daddy Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum God bless you exceedingly with extraordinary achievements. Cheers to more wins and a healthy long life Sir 🍾🥂🎂🙏🏾😊❤️

12th January 2022
For Immediate Release
PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO CUTS SOD FOR GH¢32 MILLION ACCRA STEM ACADEMY; TO BE COMPLETED IN 24 MONTHS
The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, on Wednesday, 12th January 2022, cut the sod for the construction of the Accra STEM Academy, a school, dedicated, principally, to the teaching and learning of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The Academy, which will be constructed within the next twenty-four (24) months, will be completed from kindergarten to high school, with an expected population of some two thousand (2,000) students.
It will have a number of state-of-the-art facilities, including a four-storey classroom block, science laboratories, a sickbay, administrative area, staff common room, library, washrooms, canteen, and a one thousand, five hundred (1,500) capacity multi-purpose hall.
According to President Akufo-Addo, the Accra STEM Academy, being constructed at a cost of thirty-two million cedis (GH¢32 million), will equip learners from kindergarten to senior high school with 21st century skills in problem solving, creativity, communication, collaboration, data literacy, digital literacy, and computer science.
“In addition, the Accra STEM Academy will be a place where learners in junior high school will be provided with the options of learning basic engineering, manufacturing, and global studies to help them make informed decisions on their preferred programmes of choice at senior high school level,” he said.
Delivering a speech at the event, the President explained that Government attaches importance to the teaching of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at all levels of the nation’s educational system, in recognition of the centrality of STEM capability in the employment of science and technology towards Ghana’s nation’s development.
“Indeed, our world is essentially driven by technology. Energy, industry, agriculture, medicine and health, clean air and water, transportation, sanitation, the use, management and conservation of natural resources – the successful exploitation of all these sectors depends, ultimately, on the application of science and technology. So, it is obvious that, to be a part of this modern world, science and technology must be present at every stage of the development process,” he added.
Despite being one of the leading countries in guaranteeing access to quality education on the continent, President Akufo-Addo noted that Ghana’s education sector still requires some significant transformation to compete with the best in the world.
For example, he explained that Ghana must increase her Gross Tertiary Enrolment Ratio (GTER) from the current 18.84% to 40% by 2030, adding that “in accordance with Government’s Education Strategic Plan (ESP), targeted at increasing our science to humanities ratio from the current one of forty to sixty (40:60) to the desired sixty to forty (60:40) in favour of science, Government is repositioning our education system, anchored on STEM Education”.
As part of Government’s commitment to the advancement of STEM education in the country, President Akufo-Addo stated that his administration has commenced the development of twenty (20) STEM Centres and ten (10) model STEM Senior High schools across the country, which are at various stages of completion.
“Some of these schools will be operationalized this year. These institutions and centres will be fitted with state-of-the art equipment and laboratories to facilitate teaching and learning in all areas of study, including artificial intelligence and robotics,” he added.
Describing the Accra STEM Academy as a Ghana project, the President was confident that Ghana’s young people are going to acquire skills that would put them at par with their peers anywhere in the world.
“I expect parents and students to take advantage of this facility’s opportunities, and enroll in this STEM Academy. Government is committed to accelerating STEM education in Ghana, to train students with cutting-edge 21st century skills. God-willing, within the next twenty-four (24) months, we will all be back here to witness the commissioning of the Accra STEM Academy,” he added.
