THE MAN WHOSE CALL PUT ME ON TV

The man in the long sleeves shirt on the right of this picture is called Mike Cofie. One of the best on ground marketers of our time.

It was around 6pm on a Friday sometime back in 2007, when I got a call from Mike. He said to me, “Chale I’m here with Ignace (CEO of 4syte TV) and I’ve told him he should let you host 4syte TV. So where you dey? Come
Right now”

Honestly, I had never done anything television before. Never. The farthest I had come close to TV was rolling with the former host of the show, WOLF. But to stand in front of the camera and speak…. Naaaa it wasn’t my thing. But Mike pushed and said I shouldn’t worry. He knows I can do it. Then he passed the phone to Ignace, and Iggy (as we all called him) added his voice to the motivation.

But this post isn’t about my TV journey. It’s about MIKE COFIE. Never in my entire life have I met someone with so much confidence to make things happen even when it seems clearly impossible.

You see this picture I’m posting? That was CHANNEL O AWARDS years ago. A 13 member crew from 4syte flew to South Africa courtesy Rwanda Airlines (The story of the airline, I would share another day but big ups Mike. You did it once again)

We had no tickets to enter the highly acclaimed Channel O awards. At that particular edition, DBlack, Wizkid, AKA (may his soul rest in peace) and big super stars were all set to perform. It was major content for a channel like 4syte TV. But how were we going to pull this off? MIKE COFIE

Mike took a bold step to the entrance of the event where the security was tight. The rest of the 12 member crew were in the bus.

I saw Mike talking to the security guys, and next I know he made it past them. I saw him enter. After about 10 minutes, Mike came back and asked me to follow him. We walked right through the security, unquestioned, and they escorted us right to meet one of the top influencers of the event.

Next I know, 13 VIP tickets were secured for us.

You can imagine the shock on my face. This is just one among many other deals and gigs MIKE COFIE secured during his term at 4syte tv

If I am to write it all, it’ll be a book. Mike COFIE’s contribution to the creative arts of Ghana, may not be visible to the rest of you, but I will not wait for him to pass on to HIS maker before I give him his flowers.

BIG MIKE, thanks for making me what I am today 🫡
