PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO RECEIVES HONORARY DOCTORATE DEGREE FROM SORBONNE UNIVERSITY

The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Akufo-Addo, on Monday, 10th October 2022, was presented with an honorary doctorate degree from the University of Sorbonne, in Paris, France, one of the most prestigious universities in Europe and the world.

Sorbonne University conferred the award on President Akufo-Addo, in recognition of his commitment to entrenching the values of democracy in Ghana, fostering peace within the West African Region, guaranteeing access to a minimum of senior high school education for all of Ghana’s children through the implementation of the Free SHS policy, and also for the leadership shown in the fight against COVID-19, amongst others.

I am unable to come to terms with the fact that media houses and their programs’ hosts keep on calling this Michael Kwadwo Peprah on their platforms.

This gentleman who is said to be the President of the Concerned Small Scale Miners Association is as guilty as those who engage in galamsey.

In the run-up to the 2020 elections, this gentleman, in the companies of Kwaku Boahen and Dr. Tony Aubynn, went into the galamsey prone areas and asked them to vote for the NDC so as to be allowed to ply their trade.

Kwadwo Peprah said in the video that galamsey is older than Ghana and that they would not sit aloof for Akufo-Addo to take away their livelihoods.

He was poignant about the position that should Mahama win the election, they’d be allowed to come back to continue with galamsey.

“If we vote for Mahama on the 7th and the results are declared in his favour on the 9th, come back here to do your galamsey” that’s Michael Kwadwo Peprah.

Why should someone with such a mindset be the face of the fight against galamsey? Why should he be thought of as an expert on this fight when his actions and utterances are worlds apart from the fight he claims to be waging against illegal mining?

The truth is that Michael Kwadwo Peprah ie emblematic of galamsey and ought not to be given any audience with respect to this fight!

Government has signed a MoU with eleven (11) banks for the Commercial Component, to support entrepreneurs gain access to capital to enhance their businesses.

The YouStart programme introduced by Government and expected to create a million jobs for the Ghanaian youth in the next three years has three models:
> The Commercial Programme
> District Entrepreneurship Programme and
> the YouStart Grace Programme.

The Minister for Finance, Hon. Ken Ofori-Atta in his address said, the commercial programme would offer a *standardized loan product between GHS100,000 and GHS500,000.00* from Participating Financial Institution (PFIs) to cover working capital requirements, business expansion needs and the purchase of equipment or machinery by beneficiaries.

The financial institutions that signed the MoU with Government were GCB Bank Plc, ABSA Bank Ghana Limited, ARB Apex Bank, Access Bank (Ghana) PIc, Ecobank Ghana PIc, FBNBANK Ghana Ltd, Fidelity Bank Ghana Ltd, Universal Merchant Bank, Consolidated Bank Ghana Ltd, CalBank PIc, OmniBSIC Bank Ghana Limited, and the Ghana Association of Banks signed as a witness.

On Monday, September 26, 2022, Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia commissioned the rehabilitated Cape Coast Inner City Road Project.

The 22km project is part of the Master Project Support Agreement with Sinohydro Coorporation of China.

Akotokyir, Kwaprow, Amamoma, Academy Area, English Arabic Area, PPAG Area, Ebubonko-Amissano-Besakrom-Dankwakrom, Eyifua and Kakumdo are among the project’s beneficiary communities.

Ghana saving lives through medical drones

A section of the La Beach Road has been closed to traffic in order to build a new bridge across the Kpeshie Lagoon (near Labadi Beach Hotel).

The new 2/3 lane bridge is scheduled to open to traffic in December of this year.

For a smooth flow of traffic, adequate security measures and an effective traffic management plan have been put in place.

Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah paid a working visit to the site on Monday, September 19, 2022, to gain first-hand information on the bridge's construction as well as the traffic management plan.

He directed the contractor to complete the project on time and asked commuters to bear with the inconveniences that would be caused by the work.

"We are concerned about motorists and commuters alike, so we have put measures in place to alleviate their burden," he assured.

The 6km School Junction-Borteyman -Motorway Road project is progressing steadily.

In April of this year, the Hon. Kwesi Amoako-Attah handed over the site to the contractor, Oswald Investment Ltd, and construction began in May.

The road leads to the Borteyman Sports Complex, where the All-African Games will be held.

During a working visit to the site on Monday, September 19, 2022, the contractor assured the Minister that the project would be completed ahead of schedule.

Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah expressed satisfaction with the work completed and praised the contractor for the high quality of his work and sense of duty.

Ghana's🇬🇭railway update

The Western Railway Line

The Western Railway Line, approximately 340 km runs from the port city of Sekondi - Takoradi (Ghana's 3rd largest city) to Kumasi (Ghana's 2nd largest city) with two branch lines from Tarkwa to Prestea and Dunkwa to Awaso.

It is the main stay of Ghana's railway network and the major freight corridor. Bulk commodities such as manganese, bauxite, cocoa, timber, cement, petroleum products, etc. have historical been transported along the Western Line.

N.B: Takoradi to kojokrom in western region is already working
