A court in Sierra Leone has allowed the former president Ernest Bai Koroma to travel to Nigeria for medical care. He left by plane flying to Nigeria on Friday after the court permit amid charges for his alleged role in a failed military coup attempt. Koroma is facing four offences including treason for his alleged role in the incident which occurred last November. The charges also include misprision of treason and two counts of harbouring.

Former Chief Justice of Liberia, Gloria Musu Scott, has been sentenced to life imprisonment along with three family members for the murder of Charlotte Musu, her niece. The former chief justice said intruders rather broke into her residence and killed her niece. The court though found her and the three family members guilty of Charlotte’s murder after a five-month trial. Ms Scott’s lawyers said they would appeal the judgement.

Sierra Leone authorities have now charged 27 soldiers with multiple offences over last year’s alleged failed coup attempt. Kenya in 2023 announced it was implementing a visa-free policy for all visitors into the east African nation. The policy took effect this month, making it the first country to implement a visa-free entry scheme for all foreign travelers irrespective of their nationality. But the implementation of the policy seems complicated and hectic for many travelers who are now required to pay a $30 processing fee before gaining entry. This requirement also applies to countries whose citizens previously had unrestricted access to Kenya and didn’t have to make some online submissions.

Kenya per the new policy now operates a cutting-edge electronic travel authorization (ETA) system, that has replaced traditional visas with a simple online application process. But it would cost people applying for entry a $30 processing fee.

Since July 2023, there have been hundreds of applications from Ghanaians showing interest in attempting several records in different categories. In December last year, the whole country was caught up in the frenzy when a broadcaster, Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum took up the challenge to break the record for singing for the longest hours. While she awaits validation another woman, chef Failatu Abdul-Razak in Tamale, northern Ghana has kept the ecstasy going. She has now cooked for over 140 hours since January 1, in her attempt to break the Guinness world record for the longest hours cooking. She wants to cook for 240 hours and plans to end it all on January 10.

Ghana has suddenly been gripped with a new frenzy of breaking and setting Guinness World Records with no end in sight just yet.
