Wrong is Wrong!

This is so simple, Rawlings is an Ewe, Ewe culture is what must reign supreme at his burial. You don't let Asante culture dominate and dominate at his funeral and call voltarians who feel peeved tribalistic.

The fact that you think he is a national figure hence a certain culture is more national is the biggest form of tribalism.

We are from Ghana but everyone is from somewhere in Ghana and that must be recognised.

Voltarians have the right to be hurt, he is the greatest son they have produced, they deserve to take the centre stage on the day the world pays him his last respect.

We shouldn't even be discussing this one, a wife doesn't bury a husband, the family does and the family does this with the state if he is a man like Rawlings.

We shouldn't use tribal labelling to prevent people from speaking their minds when clearly, a culture that is not theirs is given prominence over them on the day that is their day.

There are many proud sons of Asante who have risen to national prominence, when they depart, I don't think another tribe's culture would dominate at their funeral.

This is a rare moment to sell the Ewe culture to the rest of the world, it should never have been taken away from them.

Most of the people I have seen crying foul that voltarians are being tribalistic happen to be Akans, seriously, is there any Akan whose burial has ever been dominated by the culture of another.

Even in being one, we have to respect our differences.

If you are an Asante and happy, you are simply selfish and super tribalistic.

Sultry singer Adina Thembi’s passionate performance of Bryan Adams’ (Everything I Do) I Do it For You on the night brought tears to the eyes of the late President’s family.

Although there were a number of performances on the night, Adina’s time remained the most moving of them all.

Halfway through her rendition of the famous song, Adina couldn’t hold back her own tears.

However, with much effort, the Ghanaian-South African songstress maintained her composure through to the end of her set.

The performance left many in tears including wife and children of the late statesman.

Am I Not Allowed To Mention Jean Mensa’s Name, Tsikata Clashes With Supreme Court Judge

The counsel for the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, Tsatsu Tsikata clashed with a Supreme Court judge on Tuesday (19 January 2021) during the day two of the 2020 Election Petition.

The exchanges between Tsatsu Tsikata and a Supreme Court Judge, Nene Amegatcher, began when he posed questions he (Tsatsu) claimed were key to discovering the ‘errors’ committed by the EC.

According to Tsikata, the interrogatories were critical as it would help the apex court determine the authenticity of the results that saw the NPP presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo, emerging as the winner of the 2020 polls.

But presenting the list of questions on Tuesday, Tsikata made reference to the Electoral Commission Chairperson rather than the office that conducted the polls.

That did not sit well with Justice Nene Amegatcher.

The apex court judge insisted that the questions should be directed to the office of the Chairperson and not come across as a personal attack on Jean Mensa.

Tsatsu: This is a question only one person in this world can answer

Justice Nene Amegatcher: Why wouldn’t you limit your references to the office rather than the personality. It seems to me that your attack is with the personality and not the office…We will be happy if you just limit it to the office and not the EC because in her absence any of her deputies could step in.

Tsatsu: Respectfully my lord, there is only one Returning Officer for the presidential election and that is the EC chairperson.

Justice Nene Amegatcher: let’s leave it at that, chairperson of the Electoral Commission and not her person

Tsatsu: But my Lord, she is the Chairperson and she has a name, or I am not allowed to mention the name of the Chairperson

Justice Nene Amegatcher: The question should be to the office

Tsastu: I want to understand I am being prohibited from mentioning the name of the Chairperson, is that the issue?

Justice Nene Amegatcher: Reading through your petition which makes constant emphasis on the name, what I am telling you is that we will be satisfied with the designation because in her absence any of her deputies could act in that position

Tsatsu: My Lord…

Justice Nene Amegatcher: So, it is an election petition and you are challenging the election, it is sufficient that the institution charged with the conducting that election had done their work and the Chairperson who is the head represent that institution and not the personality

Tsatsu: With the greatest respect, I believe that the constitutional requirement regarding the returning officer and the particular circumstances do not make it possible step in for the Chairperson, it cannot be like you are envisaging.

Justice Nene Amegatcher: The institution had done the work and not the personality

Tsatsu: The particular circumstances that we are dealing with in this case, do not make it possible to have the situation that you are envisaging where you have somebody else step in for the Chairperson.

The constitution makes the Chairperson and only that person the Returning Officer and in the circumstances of this case that Chairperson happens to be the person we referred to in the petition who undertook her responsibility in accordance with the constitution and legal situation that we have, I am not mentioning her name by targeting her individual…that is far from it. I do not target her when I mention her name as the person who declared the results, that is a fact.

Justice Nene Amegatcher: Thank you, you may continue with your interrogatories

Bulldog arrested by BNI after threatening Akufo-Addo; Rex Omar gives details in latest audio

Shatta Wale's manager Bulldog, known in private life as Lawrence Nana Asiamah, has been reportedly arrested by operatives of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) which was until recently known as Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

Bulldog's arrest is in connection with threatening statements he made about President Nana Akufo-Addo on Nana Ama McBrown's United Showbiz on UTV on Saturday, January 9, 2021.

According to Highlife music legend Rex Omar who confirmed the arrest of Bulldog saying his information indicates that some men from the presidency went to arrest Bulldog and dump him at the BNI.

Rex Omar further stated that Bulldog's lawyer was currently at the officers of the 'BNI' and they seem not to know why the artiste manager has been brought into their custody.

It will be recalled that the former A & R manager for Zylofon during a discussion on McBrown's show stated that Akufo-Addo will run away and will not be able to finish his four-year term if he refuses to pay Menzgold customers.

For Bulldog, once the government had caused the collapse of Menzgold, it was its responsibility to settle customers.

His comments were taken as a threat to the president by many including Afia Schwarzenegger who was a co-panellist on the show.

A lot of Ghanaians took to social media to blast Bulldog with some even calling for his arrest.

NDC MPs to boycott Akufo-Addo swearing-in

Members of Parliament of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have served notice they will not attend the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Vice, Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

The ceremony, which will have some world leaders in attendance, is scheduled to be held in Parliament at 12:00pm.

It follows the inauguration of the Eighth Parliament and the prolonged selection of the next Speaker, which fell to Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, a former NDC MP.

After Speaker Bagbin announced that the swearing-in ceremony will take place an hour later than originally scheduled, MP for Asawase Constituency disclosed that his colleagues will not be at the ceremony.

The Minority Chief Whip made this known to journalists after proceedings were adjourned by the Speaker.

The NDC has rejected results of the December 7, 2020 elections, claiming they were rigged for the incumbent president.

The party’s supporters have staged separate protests across the country to register their displeasure of the results.

Presidential Candidate John Dramani Mahama has since filed a petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the outcome of the elections.

He has sued the Electoral Commission, Ghana (EC) and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Inauguration of 8th parliament

The dissolution and inauguration of the seventh and eighth parliament respectively is underway in Parliament.

Members of Parliament-elect have taken their seats in the chamber and ready for the ceremony.

Earlier there was a little misunderstanding between the two parties after the NDC MPs took the right side of the house which has conventionally been for the majority.

The NPPs MPs initially tried to have them return to the Minority side but Haruna Iddrisu and his colleagues were adamant they are on the right side.

As things stand the NPP has 137 seats in the house while the NDC has 136 seats.

The lawmakers will elect the Speaker of Parliament, First Deputy Speaker and Second Deputy Speaker for the 8th parliament once they are sworn in.

Do to Mahama what you did to Akufo-Addo in 2012 – Council of Zongo Chiefs to Supreme Court

The Ashanti Regional President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs who doubles as the Frafra Chief, Naaba Musah Akambounga has stated categorically that the members of the association will continue to pray to God (Allah) to let what happened to President Akufo-Addo and NPP in 2012 at the Supreme Court happen to former President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2020.

NPP led by then Presidential Candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo petitioned the Supreme Court after the 2012 general elections results declaration by the Electoral Commission headed by Dr Kwadwo Afari Gyan.

The Supreme Court, after several months of hearing and examining evidence, ruled in favour of the NDC and then president of Ghana John Dramani Mahama.

The NDC led by former president John Dramani Mahama has this time around petitioned the Supreme Court to challenge the 2020 presidential election results it described as flawed.

But the Ashanti Regional President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs Chief Naaba Musah Akambounga speaking in an interview with Pure Fm’s Osei Kwadwo monitored by MyNewsGh.com said “We all know what happened to NPP and President Akufo-Addo in 2012 when they petitioned the Supreme Court, we are also praying the same thing to happen to NDC and John Dramani Mahama”.

According to him, “Ghanaians voted massively for President Akuffo-Addo during 2020 general elections to continue his transformation agenda and his good policies”.

“NDC and John Dramani Mahama have every right to go to court to challenge the election results but we believe Allah will make NDC and John Dramani Mahama lose the Supreme Court verdict” Chief Akambounga said.

Chief Naaba Musah Akambounga however charged former President John Dramani Mahama to warn NDC supporters to stay away from violence and demonstration as the party has petitioned the Supreme Court.

Tension as Police Officials fume over salary drop after elections

There is growing resentment among the rank and file of the Ghana Police Service following a drastic drop in their December salaries.

The difference in salaries barely two weeks after December 7, 2020, general elections is fuelling rumours that the recent upward adjustment in their salary was rose to possibly influence them ahead of the general elections.

Many of them are already protesting on social media platforms with varied comments expressing anger, regret and with some saying they have been taken for granted.

One comment read, “December is here, and as usual, government workers would be taken salaries earlier than usual, what the officers are saying is that Salary adjustments announced in November and paid successfully are nowhere to be found, It has flipped, flopped and disappeared subsequently.”

In November, barely a month to the December 7 elections rumours were rife that the over 23,000 personnel of the Service, for example, had been surprised with over 100% pay rise across board.

Director of Public Affairs at the Police Service, Superintendent Kwesi Fori who confirmed in an interview described the pay rise as “shocking and very positive”.

The government was tight-lipped over the increment, but leaked pay slips confirmed that the lowest rank in the Police service has seen about 200 percent increase in their take-home pay.

But December slips have left many hoping to smile home again devastated.

One post read "John Mahama predicted that; He actually said many of the freebies announced by the government including the unannounced salary increments were to win votes. November Pay was prompt. December, our hopes have been dashed. A huge slap in the face. Removal from CAP 30 is next.”

Another Facebook message said “Dear Nana Addo and IGP. The salary adjustment that was paid to Police Officers in November and was publicly announced. Please come out and make it public again that it has been removed after the elections.”

The Ghana Police Service is yet to officially respond to the allegations or clarify the matter.

Meet Nana Boakye-Yiadom: The young man who used 10 years to get his first degree

A 2020 graduate from Ghana's premier tertiary institution, the University of Ghana, has every reason to smile after finally acquiring his first degree which took him 10 years.

Mr Nana Boakye-Yiadom who got enrolled in the university in 2010 to study for a 4-year programme got sidelined by many challenges which saw him deferring a number of times.

The story has it that the course that should have been completed in 2014, took Nana Boakye-Yiadom an extra six years to be able to achieve.

Six years after the year he was originally supposed to graduate, Nana Boakye-Yiadom is now standing tall after passing out of school successfully.

Among many other things, the delay in Nana Boakye-Yiadom's academic career had been attributed to personal and health issues which saw him almost giving up on his dream of becoming a university graduate.

Nana Boakye-Yiadom passed with Second Class (Lower Division) in Information Studies with Linguistics.

Following his remarkable determination and will to see himself through the journey he had started, Nana Boakye-Yiadom was so proud of himself and was sure to let the world know.

He took to Facebook to write: "This is what the LORD can DO. It's been 10 years of fighting and striving and deferring just to get my first degree. Now I know that the LORD has dealt favourably with me."
