TEACHERS, PUPILS AND PARENTS OF HAIN CIRCUIT IN THE JIRAPA MUNICIPALITY UNDERGONE A ONE DAY TRAINING ON INCLUSIVE EDUCATION AT THE HAIN PRESENTATION SCHOOL BY PRESENTATION BROTHERS AND MISEAN CARA.
On Thursday, February 16,2023.some teachers, pupils and parents from selected schools within the Hain Circuit in the Jirapa Municipality of the upper west region were taken through a one day vigorous training on inclusive education by a Catholic mission organization. The said training took place at the Hain Presentation school conference hall. The beneficiary schools include Chapuri primary and Junior high school,St.Raphael primary school,Kenee KG/Primary,Hain SHS and the Hain Presentation. This form part of the numerous educational programs that the mission has been carrying out since its inception. The main aim of the training is to further equip teachers and parents with more knowledge and the requisite skills to enable them handle children with special needs both in school and at home.In attendance were Mr.Bagyilko who sat for the municipal education director,The PRO of the Jirapa education directorate,The headmaster of Hain SHS, Mr.Gandaabie Mathias who is the (SPED) co-ordinator at the Jirapa education directorate, The parish priest of Hain,Rev.Brothers, Madam Nabiel Cynthia who happens to be a teacher with special needs but managed to go through the academic ladder and of course some selected teachers.
In his opening remarks, Mr Bagyilko Z. Fredinard who represented the municipal director told participants/teachers to take the training seriously rather than the monetary gains alone.According to him,it is very vital for all 21st century teachers to have knowledge on inclusive education since it helps them handle learners with disabilities with care and support. He also added that, teachers should not always think that children with special needs are not part of the school system and hence neglect them of the necessary support in school.
In conclusion,he really appreciated the efforts been made by MISEAN CARA in the educational system especially with regard to the Jirapa municipality. However, like Oliver twist,he still appealed to the Catholic mission to continue to support the municipal with more training programs that would help make teaching and learning better.
On his part,Rev.Brother Debuo Der James also appealed to colleagues teachers to take the training session very serious.According to him, it was not for nothing that the MISEAN CARA had decided to organize this training for teachers in the Hain circuit but to equip them with basic techniques and skills on inclusive education so that, they can handle special needs cases in schools very well.He was thankful to offices who represented the directorate as well as teachers who made to training.
Mr.Gandaabie Mathias who is municipal SPED co-ordinator and doubled as the lead facilitator for the training finally took participants through the session on inclusive education. He told participants at the training to pay attention to what was to be delivered and try to implement it fully in their various schools.
As part of his facilitation, Mr Gandaabie Mathias took participants through basic screening exercises for children with special needs through series of demonstrations.
Madam Nabiel Cynthia who is a teacher in the Jirapa municipality also shared her life experiences with participants when growing up as a physically challenge person. She narrated how she knocked by a cyclist on Christmas day at a very tender age. However, unfortunately her parents could not managed the situation very well leading to the amputation of her leg.Not withstanding all the challenges, she still went through the academic ladder to become a teacher.
She actually told participants the ordeal, trauma and stigmatization she went through in her education and therefore, appealed to teachers to endeavor to support and help children with special needs in schools and not to discriminate against them because, every child matter irrespective of your situation.

PARENTS OF KARNI DAMPUO PRIMARY SCHOOL BEGUN WORK TO PUT UP AN ACCOMMODATION FOR TEACHERS
Teachers place of abode has been a challenge in many countries of the sub-sahara Africa.Ghana therefore,is not an exception.Though successive and the current government have tried their best but it seems the problem of teachers accommodation still persist. In the Lambussie district of the upper west region, the situation is even more dire. Most teachers often refuse posting to the district due to the non-availability of convenient place of abode.
Karni Dampuo Primary School is one of the uncountable schools in the Lambussie district that do not have an accommodation for teachers since the establishment of the school in 2002.
It is as a result of this background that, parents of Karni Dampuo Primary School through communal labour is putting up a three bed-room teachers quarters for the school to enable teachers stay through out the week to teach their children. The said project is almost 80% percent completed.I can say, this project is one of the best contributions of parents in the karni community towards improving education in the Lambussie district.
However like Oliver Twist, the executives of the SMC and PA are appealing to old students of the school,NGOs in and outside the district, the district assembly, Opinion leaders in karni to help them roof the quarters before the rain begins.
The headteacher and teachers of the school are however grateful to parents for their selfless dedication and hardwork towards the management of the school.
In an interview with the PA chairman of the school Mr.Majeed by the dynamic presenter of gangaa FM,he lamented about the absence of teachers accommodation in the Lambussie district and particularly Karni Dampuo Primary School and its negative impact on education. He told Mr PUAKYIENE DONALD of gangaa FM that,it high time parents should take welfare of teachers serious especially their accommodation.Accoding to Mr.Majeed, the lack of teachers accommodation in the community hampering the educational progression of their children hence the challenge to build the quarters.

24/09/2022

The Ghana District Change Project, previously known as the District Managing for Learning (DMfL) Programme, has been rebranded to Communities of Excellence Programme (CEP) to align with the broader Communities of Excellence initiative planned by the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ghana Education Service (GES). The programme is funded by the Jacobs Foundation and is being implemented in three districts – Lambussie, Bosome Freho and Akuapem South. The programme seeks to build adaptive learning ecosystems to improve learning outcomes in basic schools, communities and districts. The Ghana Education Service with support from Transforming Teaching, Education and Learning (T-TEL) on Monday 19th September organized a three-day Professional Learning Communities (PLC) training sessions for all Headteachers, Curriculum Leads and seven School Improvement Support Officers (SISOs) in the Lambussie District. The training aimed at strengthening the professional knowledge and understanding of PLC Coordinators and also equip them to effectively facilitate PLC sessions in the various schools. The training took place across various centers in cohorts at the district capital, Lambussie with each cohort using three days respectively.
In all, over one hundred and sixty-six (166) Lead Mentors were trained using the newly developed PLC Handbooks which focuses on the National Teachers’ Standards (NTS). The NTS sets a clear baseline of expectations for the professional knowledge, practice, conduct, attitude, rights and obligations expected of teachers working in schools at the pre-tertiary level.
Speaking at the training, the District Director of Education for the district, Mr. John Baptist Kulah (JB) stated that the PLC sessions is a good step in ensuring that teaching and learning is improved in the district. He recommended that the PLC sessions be conducted weekly on each Thursdays for a maximum of one hour. He thanked the Ministry of Education, GES and the National Teaching council (NTC) for the PLC handbooks and urged the teachers to make good use of the handbooks in improving upon their teaching and learning. As part of this initiative, the district received three hundred and thirty-five (335) PLC handbooks for teachers and one hundred and seventy-six (176) PLC handbooks for Coordinators accordingly.
He futher urged that the district should also know that the PLC forms part of the continuous professional development of every teacher and told participants that, the Ghana Education Service and National Teaching Council have agreed to award continuous professional development points towards their promotion.
Another most important aim of the workshop is to train PLC coordinators on how to effectively lead PLC sessions in schools, use the PLC handbooks and ensure the effective delivery of PLC sessions in schools.
Facilitators for the workshop included officers from the District Education Office (DEO), T-TEL and tutors from some selected Colleges of Education in the Upper West region. # follow my page: like, comment and share my stories******
