President Akufo Addo lift ban on Lockdown

President Nana Akufo-Addo has lifted restrictions imposed on the movement of persons within some parts of the country.

Addressing the nation in a televised broadcast, the President said the decision which takes effect from Monday, April 20, follows achievements made with aggressive contact tracing and enhanced testing capacities which have made it possible to contain the spread in Ghana.

The initial two-week restrictions imposed on these areas saw a further seven days extension as the nation waited for test results from some 14,000 samples taken, the President stated in his last address to the nation.

He explained noted that, with Ghana having received the test results of some 68,591 contacts, and with the majority of tests being undertaken over the last 3 weeks, 1,042 persons, i.e. 1.5%, have been confirmed as positive, with 67,549, i.e. 98.5%, testing negative.

Additionally, 99 persons have recovered and have been discharged, with 930 persons, who have been isolated responding to treatment either in their homes or in treatment facilities.

In effect, the President stressed that Monday, April 20, “will see the partial lockdown in Accra and Kumasi being lifted.”

Although the lifting of the restrictions may come as a reprieve to the many whose livelihoods may have been hit hard following the imposition, access to some major sectors remains restricted.

Th country’s borders remain closed.

Also, the ban on social gatherings, including religious gatherings as well as the strict adherence social distancing protocol, remain in place, the President

Madina main market closed until further notice

The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly has announced the closure of the Madina main market for trading activities until further notice.

The affected areas include; Doku, Nkulenu, Market Drive, Asante & Asante, and Nkwantanang
Roads, the Market Loading Bay, Car park and the Main Market.

The members of the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC) arrived at the decision due to the failure of traders to adhere to the social distancing protocols issued by the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Ms Jennifer Dede Afagbedzi, the Municipal Chief Executive, in a statement issued to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the move has become necessary as the continuous abuse of the safety precaution would have dire consequences on the control of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Meanwhile, all affected traders are advised to move to the BOHYE Market at Redco and Madina New Road Market to continue their trading activities.

It hoped that the leaders and market Queens would meet with the traders to arrive at the best practices to ensure adherence to the social distancing protocol, adding “any inconvenience caused is deeply regretted”.

Two cases of coronavirus confirmed in Ghana

The Ministry of Health has announced that two cases of coronavirus infection (COVID-19) have been confirmed in Ghana.

The cases, according to the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, were confirmed on Thursday, March 12, 2020.

In a televised addressed from the Ministry of Health on Thursday evening, the Health Minister said the two cases are the first cases to be recorded in Ghana.
Laboratory results of the two confirmed cases were received at the same time from the Noguchi Memorial Institute of Medical Research. Both individuals returned to Ghana - one from Norway and the other from Turkey - so these are imported cases of COVID-19.

"Both patients are currently being kept in isolation and are stable. We have initiated processes for contact tracing," the Minister said.

He gave the assurance that the government of Ghana together with all health partners will continue to work assiduously to ensure the situation is contained.

Togo Confirms 1st Coronavirus Case

The government of Togo confirmed the country’s first coronavirus case on Friday.

In a statement, the Togolese government said the patient who tested positive for the novel coronavirus known as COVID-19 was a woman, and recently travelled to Benin, France, Germany, and Turkey.

She returned to Togo from Benin by road and arrived in the capital Lome on March 2.

The statement said the 42-year-old patient was currently isolated at an infectious disease treatment center and there were no major concerns regarding her health.

Togo joins a growing list of African countries with coronavirus cases, which include Cameroon, Senegal, South Africa, Nigeria, and Algeria.

The new coronavirus emerged in Wuhan, China, last December and has now spread to more than 80 countries.

The global death toll is nearing 3,500, with around 100,000 confirmed cases, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO, which had declared the outbreak an international health emergency, recently updated the global risk level to “very high”.

Coronovirus: Catholic Church bans handshakes and hugs henceforth

Henceforth, there would be no handshakes during mass in Catholic Churches throughout the country as well as congregants receiving communion on their tongues as part of measures to guard against the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The latest directive issued by the Ghana Catholic Bishop’s Conference sighted by MyNewsGh.com urges Ministers and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion to wash their hands or use sanitizer before and after the distribution of Holy Communion.

The usual handshakes and hugs that occur during Peace at Mass are also discouraged by the directive.

The document signed by the President of the Conference, Most Rev. Philip Naameh said, ”All are encouraged to receive Holy Communion in the hand. Ministers and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion should wash their hands or use sanitizer before and after distributing Holy Communion. Avoid handshakes and embracing one another during Kiss of Peace”

Authorities have confirmed more than 92,000 cases of the virus of which more than 80,000 are in China. More than 3,000 people have died globally, the vast majority in China.

North Korea shoots and kills coronavirus patient

North Korea has brutally executed a coronavirus patient for going out in public, reports claim.

Kim Jong-un’s dictatorship is dealing with the virus with an iron fist after the man was put to his death for dodging quarantine to go to a public bath.

The patient was arrested by officers and immediately shot as the country takes sickening measures to avoid the killer outbreak spreading.

South Korean Dong-a Ilbo newspaper reported that the man – a government official – had been placed in isolation after travelling to China.

Kim Jong-un imposed military law to enforce a lockdown to combat the virus despite not experiencing any confirmed cases.

The shock revelation comes as China saw its deadliest day of the coronavirus outbreak so far as the number of deaths leapt by 242 in just 24 hours.
