Osu celebrated Homowo by showcasing culture, honoring history and promotion education. Obonu, Asafo, and Ga Adowa were performed to showcase the music of Osu. Klama honoured the ancestral ties of Osu to Osuwem.

Notse Nii Nortey Owuo IV Notse Nii Nortey Owuo IV also awarded those who excelled in the annual Osu Homowo Science Fair. Notse is poised to promote culture as a tool for educational excellence.

𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙖 𝙗𝙤 𝙆𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙨𝙪 𝙅𝙪!! 𝐷𝑢𝑒!

Exactly 197 years ago today, on August 7, 1826, on a tropically cool Gold Coast Monday, the brave men and women of Ga Dangme stood together with our allies to resist what would have been perpetual subjugation by a foreign power. Today marks the anniversary of the Battle of Dodowa, a seminal battle in the Katamanso War. On this day our heritage and identity was hard won by the blood Ga Dangme warriors. To them, those brave men who earned the appellation KATAMANSO BARIMA, we owe so much. In their time, they preserved our right to maintain our Ga Dangme traditions and for us and our children to never be subservient to others. They achieved this through unity of purpose, and realising that there is more that unites us as Ga Dangme than divides us.

Yet, almost a century later we face even greater peril than the wrath of Nana Osei Yaw Akoto. We face cannons of greed, muskets of ignorance, swords of illiteracy, spears of endemic poverty and arrows generational desperation. The hard worn independence of the Katamanso War is under threat if we do not raise our battle flags now, with the same spirit of fortitude our ancestors did. The battles against these foes will not be fought and won on some far off battle field. Nor will it require bullets and guns. Our battles will be fought in our homes and communities. The weapons will be investing in our children's education; investing in female entrepreneurship; taking personal responsibility for Ga Dangme; and choosing the interest of Ga Dangme over our parochial interests. These battles will be no less difficult than what our ancestors faced that faithful Monday. Hence, we must approach it with the same zeal, bravery, love, grit and determination that did. As they were victorious, so must we also beat these foes, for our sakes and those of generations yet unborn. As we mark this Katamanso Ju, may we do so we a better and united Ga Dangme in mind. Omanye!

One may ask, what is the need for a state to rally around a piece of cloth on a pole whiles some young folk fire off muskets and sing ancients songs. The answer to this requires an understanding of symbolism and the spirit of people. OSU has been secured up by the spirit and blood of men and women who fought for the lives and land of OSU and GaDangme.

In a joyous and history filled march around the ancient town, the warriors of yesteryear are remembered by the valiant ones of today. The flags which were carried into battle and flown back in victory get feel the wind once again. The ancient swords of the Asafoatsemei get to once again glisten under the tropical sun.

The songs which emboldened the hearts and firmed the hands of our ancestors echo once more in ancient homes. In those moments the spirit of OSU which permeates the hearts of each one of us rings true. Through the sound and smell of musketry emerges a proud and resilient people. A people who rebuilt after destruction by the British. A people who stood shoulder to shoulder with their GaDangme brother to resist subjugation in the forests of Katamanso.

We emerge bearing the ancient flags stained with the blood of heroes. When these flags move, the people follow. As these flags have not fallen in battle, so shall they not fall now. OSU will not fall. Though some might seek the failure of the state for their own selfish gains, the spirit of OSU will remain true. May our appellations ever ring forth.
