Sagging is a fashion trend among boys, teens, and young men in which pants are worn below the hips, exposing some of their undergarments. Unfortunately, this has become increasingly popular in the past several years, and many Christian parents are engaging in a battle against this fashion craze. The Bible’s commands for modesty and respect for one’s body require Christians to dress properly and appropriately. As such, sagging among Christian boys is strictly prohibited. The Bible states,“1 Timothy 2:9 - Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments”. As we can clearly see, this passage serves as a reminder of how important it is to dress modestly and not to be tempted by vanity. Parents and church leaders must remain firm in their stance against sagging and also encourage their boys to dress modestly and respectfully, with pants that are fitted at the waist and not worn in a fashion that would cause attention to be drawn to their bodies. Along with prayer and positive reinforcement, parents and church leaders must ensure that Christian boys are being held to a higher standard and are not participating in sagging or other fashion trends that conflict with the teachings of the Bible.
