The untold story of Sefwi Bodi in the Western North Region

The ancestors of Bodi royals came from kyebi in the eastern region of Ghana . It is believed that they were led by one Ofori. They came in a large group during the era of various intertribal wars in the Akyem area. They were warmly received by the Sefwi King at the time, KwasiBumangama

They were first made to settle in an area between wiawso and Amafie. This area was initially called Bomboso. Their numbers increased with time and had difficulty in managing the small piece of land allocated to them by the great king Kwasi Bumangama. King Bumangama generously relocated them to their present home. It’s imperative to observe that some few part of the family at Bomboso didn’t relocate to present day Bodi but rather integrated with the Amafie people.

Bodi area was owned by the Aowin people and the place was called Bowikro. King Bumanagama therefore tasked Ofori people to fight and take over the Bowikro township and the entire area. Ofori and his people executed the task given to them by King Bumangama and conquered and drove away the Aowin people .The town was renamed Bodi after the take over by Ofori and his people.

The new Bodi settlers needed to secure the lands they had conquered. In spite of this, the chief and people established other settlements on their boundaries. These villages will serve defensive purposes incase of invasions and intrusion against them .
Among these villages on their boundaries are ;Yawkro, Puakro,Tumandu andKwadwobikro.
It’s important to note that Yawkro and Tumandu are Bodi’s brothers while Kwadwobikro is a son to the Bodi stool.
One major factor to take note is the fact that one of the women who migrated together with Ofori from Kyebi to Sefwi was married by sefwi King Bumangama and had children who later became chiefs of Bodi .This is the reason why Bodi stool is considered as son to the omanhene of Sefwi Wiawso state
