Songs released on my birthdays are always deep – Kofi Kinaata

Award winning singer-songwriter, Kofi Kinaata, says birthdays are important that’s why songs he releases on such days are profound.

Kofi Kinaata, who is also a rapper, released a potential hit song called 'Have Mercy' on Friday, April 15, to mark his 32nd birthday.

In the song, the singer pleads with God to ‘Have Mercy’ on him and help him to progress in life.

The reason he released the song on his anniversary is because “birthdays are special days. They are days of reflection. So, if you’ve been monitoring, all of my songs released on my birthday are kind of emotional, deep songs.”

He added that because of how he values his birthday he released ‘Behind the Scenes’ and ‘Thy Grace Part 1,’ all on his birthday because they “tell true stories about my life”

Born, Martin King Arthur, he has been a source of consistent nuanced songs; from ‘Susuka,’ ‘Confession,’ ‘Wo Pre,’ ‘Adam and Eve,’ ‘Things Fall Apart’ and several others.

The musician, who was born in Takoradi, was trending on Twitter earlier today because of numerous well-wishes from his fans.

'They put their language aside and sing in pidgin' - Kelvyn Boy shares lesson from Nigeria

Kelvyn Boy is sharing his thoughts on why Ghanaian musicians seem to struggle to get their songs popular in Nigeria.

According to the Ghanaian singer, Nigerian acts have managed to balance their sound to ensure that their songs are global. "Nigerian music is not only dominating the African continent but the globe as well," the singer asserts.

The Afro Beat artiste opines that Ghanaian songs can faster reach such a global audience if attention is paid to the packaging of songs. “They (Nigerians) have managed to balance their sound and made sure their outcome is global," he said.

Kelvyn Boy went on a media tour in Nigeria a few weeks ago to promote his new song. In a conversation with Ato Kwamina Otoo for an interview on Takoradi-based Connect FM, he emphasized that the language of the song also plays an important role.

"They most of the time put all their dialects aside and speak the pidgin (English), and they tap from everyone; Amapiano, Highlife… they have managed to box it into one,” he asserted.

Kelvyn Boy agrees that efforts are being made by Ghanaian musicians but suggests that a lot more could be done. The award-winning singer is also called on Ghanaians to support good music, in order to achieve a result that will be beneficial for all.

The father of two currently has one of the most songs in the country. His song 'Down Flat' has peaked at number one on Ghana Apple Music a few weeks ago and currently sits at the third spot.

Black Sherif Becomes First Ghanaian Artist To Hit 10M Views On YouTube In Just 8 Months

Second Sermon has hit over 10 million views on YouTube in less than 8 months after Ghanaian singer Black Sherif released the song.

This is by far the fastest song from a Ghanaian artist to hit that milestone on the video streaming platform.

Sarkodie’s Adonia which featured Castro has 84 million views on the platform but achieved that in 7 years.

Critics are saying Black Sherif could surpass that with the way his Kwaku The Traveler and the Second Sermon songs are going viral.

A court case cannot stop him from becoming the biggest and youngest act in Ghana.

Although Black Sherif is facing a lawsuit from his former manager and investor, the young man’s star keeps shining brightest in his corner.

The Grammy hopeful recorded a remix of the Second Sermon and had a free feature from Burna Boy, a two-time Grammy-nominated artist from Nigeria.

Mark Okraku Mantey explains why Shatta Wale was blacklisted from Hitz FM

The experienced music producer Mark Okraku Mantey has revealed why he blacklisted Shatta Wale from Hitz FM when he was in charge of the station.

According to him, he was not ready to tolerate the rudeness of the SM President, the reason he insisted that he be blocked and barred.

Speaking on HITZ FM, Mark Okraku Mantey said Shatta Wale turned down an interview the station had sent out to him, thus he took the decision to blacklist him.

“Shatta wale was rude. We invited him for an interview and he turned it down so we decided to blacklist him.”

Mark Okraku Mantey revealed that due to Shatta Wale’s rude attitude, the station decided to support Stonebwoy and make him a hero.

“So we decided to support Stonebwoy and make him a hero because he was not rude. So decided to play a lot of Stonebwoy’s songs,” he said.

Black Sherif Releases Official Statement Over New Management Buzz.

Black Sherif, the stage name of Ghanaian artist Ishmael Mohammed Sherif, has issued an official statement in response to the recent controversy surrounding his management.

Most people remember when he abandoned his manager and secretly signed a recording contract with Empire Entertainment without his manager’s knowledge or approval.

The singer of “Second Sermon” was believed to have thrown away a house that his manager had given him, 100 pairs of footwear, and a vehicle that he had been given to help him advance in his professional life.

Discarding his management for Empire Entertainment for no apparent reason is exactly what Ghanaian radio broadcaster DJ Slim said happened when he highlighted the singer’s move.

To be fair to the current controversy, Black Sherif has issued a statement in which he claims the debates are based on inaccurate and unfounded assertions.

According to the statement, the team is presently working to find a compromise between the two sides to resolve the conflict.

She deserves more than an Uber car – Nina Ricchie

Ghanaian musician and entrepreneur Desmond Blackmore, also known as D-Black has been accused of hoarding monies made from S3fa’s hit songs for his personal gains.

Last year on September 1, S3fa was surprised with a brand new car by her record label boss.

The Black Avenue Muzik boss officially signed S3fa onto his BAM record label in 2017 and the two have had what can best be described as a great manager and artist relationship.

But according to Nina Ricchie, S3fa deserves more than the car gift received from DBlack with the explanation that it did not make absolute sense that of all the hit songs churned by Sefa, DBlack could only purchase a mere car for her.

Speaking in an interview on Accra FM, Nina mentioned Sefa deserved better, pointing out that the car given to her doesn’t match her status and that she shouldn’t have accepted such a basic car.

For her, she could not understand where all the revenue from her numerous hit songs goes.

Black Sherif’s manager, Madonna, breaks silence on allegations of ingratitude leveled against his artiste

Fast-rising rapper and singer Black Sherif, also known as Blacko premiered his music video for ‘Second Sermon Remix’ featuring Burna Boy, only to be accused of being ungrateful the following week.

The “First Sermon” hit-maker has been involved in allegations of ingratitude, regarding to his former manager, “Snap”, after he fed, clothed and provided the rapper with shelter when he was still an up-and-coming artiste.

In an exclusive interview with Da Don on U Sey Weytin, on Hitz FM, Madonna, Black Sherif’s purported manager, stated that, Snap came in only as an investor after the successful ‘Second Sermon’ hit, and that even the shooting of the remix video with Burna Boy was produced and shot by EMPIRE Entertainment, not by “Snap”.

“Snap came on board as an investor. We started working with him after Second Sermon, and the only we project we released under his support was Second Sermon Remix… and even with that, his investment wasn’t neck-deep into the project. The production of the remix and shooting of the video was funded by EMPIRE.”

“Of course, Snap sorted us out with some few things – he provided us with shelter. He didn’t buy any house for Black Sherif as speculated on social media. It was his house, and we were all living in it including Snap himself and his boys,” Madonna added.

Unfortunately, the manager was later sacked from the house due to a misunderstanding that ensued between Snap and Madonna. The latter noted that the regular Separation of Powers in artiste management was not adhered to by Snap in their case. He said Snap was overstepping his boundaries when he was managing affairs regarding the young singer.

“Snap suddenly became a Booking Manager – he began to schedule events and interviews for my artiste without my permission. Fast forward, he also made himself the Road Manager for my artiste”

When asked by Da Don whether there was a contract binding Snap and Black Sherif, Madonna confirmed its existence. However, he declined to mention details of what the contract entailed.
