CHICKEN AND POTATO SANDWICHES

_9 months plus_

A sandwich makes a delightful breakfast both for adults and toddlers alike. Also, if you are looking for an easy breakfast idea for toddlers, then sandwiches are certainly going to meet your requirement. To make them attractive, you can cut them in different shapes and decorate it with vegetables.

Ingredients
2 cups chopped boneless chicken
2 cups diced potatoes
1-2tbsp HealthyMix Coconut oil
A pinch of HealthyMix Turmeric powder
1tsp unsalted butter (buy from HealthyMix Team)
A loaf of wheat bread
A pinch of salt

Preparation

1. Boil chicken pieces and potatoes separately till they are tender. Put them in a bowl and add butter, turmeric and salt, and mix well.

2. Lightly toast some slices of wheat bread, which is rich in fiber.

3. Heat coconut oil in a non-stick frying pan.
Put the chicken and potato mix between two slices of bread and cook them on a low flame on the frying pan.

4. Cook till the bread develops a dark brown crust. Turn it over and cook for a couple of minutes.

What is Albuminuria? 😳

I think the first question to answer is- what is albumin?

Albumin is the most abundant protein in the blood. Its role is to keep fluid from leaking out of blood vessels and carries hormones, vitamins, drugs, and minerals like calcium throughout the body. It also provides the body with the protein needed to both maintain growth and repair tissues.

So now that we know what albumin is, the second part -uria, just means in urine, so albuminuria means the presence of albumin in urine.

Albuminuria is often referred to as proteinuria. When the filters of the kidneys are damaged, they allow albumin to leak into the urine instead of keeping it contained in the bloodstream.

Albumin is one of the first proteins that can be found in the urine of people with kidney damage and the amount of albumin present helps to classify what stage of kidney disease a person has (alongside their eGFR).

How does albumin/protein get into urine?

Albumin gets into the urine if the kidneys aren’t working properly. Normally, the kidneys filter waste products and excess water from the blood into the urine. If there is damage to the kidneys, if there is a problem with the reabsorption process of the proteins, or if there is an excessive protein load, albumin will flow into the urine.

Let’s talk about the wound your placenta leaves inside of you and why a postpartum mom NEEDS to recover and relax. Maternity leave is not a vacation, it’s healing time..
When the placenta is born it leaves a 22 cm wound inside of you, hence why you bleed for 6 weeks (sometimes more). That’s almost 9 inches of wound! That is why you cannot use tampons, have s*x, lift heavy things, work out etc. This is so you can HEAL!.
What should a postpartum mom be doing the first few weeks? Breastfeeding and resting, that’s it. Breastfeeding is helping your uterus contract and go back to normal size and heal, resting is doing the same. A light walk perhaps for mental health, but really she needs to rest. Let’s not forget an ENTIRE HUMAN just came out of her! .
This is a great time for you to ask for help if you just had a baby OR give help to a postpartum mom. She shouldn’t be standing cooking, lifting clothes baskets, cleaning etc. She can hold her baby..if you want to help a mom bring her a meal, clean up, do some laundry! Unless she asks you to hold the baby..that’s not what she needs. .

Ingredients For POTATO CROQUETTES

Cheese 🧀 = 1 sack
Potatoes 🥔 = 6 pieces
Flour =1/2 cup
Bread Crumbs =1/2 cup
White pepper = 1 tbspn
Black pepper = 1 tbspn
Garlic powder =1 tbspn
Rosemary = 1 tbspn
Salt to taste
Eggs =3 big
Oil to fry

How to make it

1. Peel and cook potatoes
2. Add ingredients & 1 egg to potatoes
3. Mash potatoes with ingredients
4. Mould to round shape or preferred shapes
5. Break 2 eggs in a different bowl & whip
6.Dip moulded potatoes in whipped eggs
7.Dip in flour and bread crumbs

Baby/Toddler bodies are not mature enough to process alcohol.” A child with blood alcohol levels of 0.05, which is lower than the legal drinking limit in most states, have had problems. That's because their livers can't properly process alcohol, causing their blood sugar to dip, sometimes to dangerous levels.

The bottom line. Giving small sips of alcohol to your child might seem harmless, but a growing body of research indicates that these early sips can increase the chances of your child drinking excessively in the future. No amount of alcohol is considered safe for children.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A CHILD TAKES ALCOHOL?

Symptoms can include confusion, vomiting, and seizures. The child may have trouble breathing and flushed or pale skin. Alcohol reduces the gag reflex. This can cause choking.

1 dialysis session is GH¢325 and they have to go for 3 sessions every week! That's GH¢975 every week to have their blood purified.

It's good to have fun but don't forget to cut back on salt, fried foods, alcohol and smoking to reduce the risk.

This is known as Essential Fatty Acid. This means our body needs it every day. Our body cannot make it by itself. However, our body needs Omega3 to function and especially our brain.

Natural sources like flax seeds, chia seeds contain ALA (Alpha Linoleic Acid) that is converted into Omega3 in our body only up to 8%.

So natural sources don't have good amount of Omega3 until we eat algae from deep water sea but this is not part of our diet.

So only good source of Omega3 is cold deep water fish. Very few companies practice and offer this.

Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin that is quite common and contagious.

It is caused by fungi that live on the top layer of the skin, feed on keratin in the skin, and thrive in warm, moist areas. The infection causes a circle, with a dark border in the shape of a ring.

👉 GARLIC
Garlic has excellent antifungal properties that help heal ringworm. Crush two cloves of garlic. Rub them on the ringworm eruption several times a day. To be done for four to five days or until the condition improves.

👉 THE NEEM LEAVE
Neem, or Indian lilac leaves, have antiseptic and antimicrobial properties that help treat ringworm, scabies, and various skin infections.
Apply neem oil to the affected area once a day for a few days until the infection clears. You can also apply half a teaspoon of neem oil mixed with a cup of aloe vera gel. Mix crushed neem leaves, turmeric powder and sesame oil. Apply this paste on the affected area.

👉 APPLE CIDER VINEGAR
Apple cider vinegar is excellent for curing skin infections such as ringworm because of its antimicrobial and astringent properties. Dip a cotton swab in cider vinegar and apply on the affected area. Remedy to do, two or three times a day for a few days or until you see an improvement.

👉 TEA TREE OIL
Tea tree oil is another natural remedy widely used for ringworm because of its antifungal and antiseptic qualities. Put a few drops of tea tree oil on a cotton ball and dab on the affected area. Operation to do, two or three times a day for a week or two. You can also dilute the tea tree oil in an equal amount of water or carrier oil and then apply it.

👉 LAVENDER OIL can also be used locally to eliminate ringworm and soothe the skin.

👉 THE RAW PAPAYA
Raw papaya also kills fungi that cause ringworm because of its antifungal properties. Rub a slice of raw papaya on the affected area. Leave on for at least 15 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Do this at least twice a day for a few days. You can also apply fresh juice of papaya leaves or a paste made of dried papaya seeds.

👉 TURMERIC
Turmeric is a well known ingredient used in several ayurvedic remedies for its antiseptic, antibiotic and antifungal properties. In addition, it soothes the skin and facilitates the healing process. Extract the juice from the grated turmeric root. Apply the juice on the ringworm eruption three times a day until the area is free of infection. You can also heat a half cup of milk with a quarter of a teaspoon of turmeric and drink it

👉 LEMONGRASS
Lemongrass helps treat ringworm because of its powerful antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. It also relieves itching. When you absorb it, it also helps eliminate toxins from your body. Drink tea with lemongrass or a combination of lemongrass and chamomile tea three times a day. You can also apply tea bags with lemongrass used, lemongrass essential oil, or a paste of lemongrass leaves and crème fraiche topically on the affected area.

👉 WHITE VINEGAR AND SALT
The vinegar and salt combination helps fight against fungal infections. Therefore, they are useful for getting rid of ringworm and drying it out. Make a paste of salt and white vinegar. Apply it on the affected area and leave it for about five minutes. Treatment to be applied two or three times a day for one week or until the infection disappears.

Why Added Sugar Should Be Avoided or Limited in kids' food

Babies are generally born liking the taste of sweet foods, so we get why parents enjoy giving them to their little ones. The problem is, the earlier you introduce added sugars, the more likely your baby or toddler is to prefer and choose sweet foods into childhood and throughout the rest of his life. Eating foods that are high in sugar throughout childhood can lead to preventable diseases, such as heart disease, obesity and high blood pressure.

*Here are some recommended swaps to limit your baby or toddler’s added sugar intake:*

1. Instead of sugary drinks, stick to water or plain milk.

2. Instead of juice, offer soft fruits, such as bananas, homemade fruit juice or smoothies

3. Instead of ice cream, offer a Probiotic yogurt parfait with fruit.

I read a post recently here by a member regarding Vitamin D. I understand we, RDs, want to stand out as "experts" , but I am afraid that we the mentally that we know all and bashing doctors is not the right way to earn the trust. People, stay on top of new research, I beg you. If you continue to rely on fortified foods for nutrition, we are lost and are no longer the experts. The times to rely on fortified juices are 50 years old recommendation. ugh. sad.

BANANA SOYA RICE CEREALS WITH COCONUT MILK FOR BABIES AND TODDLERS

Ingredients
Banana Soya Rice Cereals - 1\2 tbsp
Date Powder Sweetner - 2 tbsp
Coconut milk -1/2 cup
A pinch of cinnamon

Preparation
1. Add banana soya rice cereal in a pan and add water to it.

2. Mix well with a whisk. Make sure that no lumps are formed.

3. Cook the porridge in low flame until it is completely cooked in

cooked add a pinch of cinnamon and mix well.

5. Add in coconut milk and cook it for 2 more minutes.

This is interesting. After reading this, you'll never look at a banana in the same way again.

Bananas contain three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained and substantial boost of energy.

Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world's leading athletes.

DEPRESSION:

POTTY TRAINING TIPS FOR BABIES

Potty training is the process of training someone, particularly a young child or infant, to use the potty for urination and defecation. Attitudes toward training in recent history have fluctuated substantially, and may vary across cultures and according to demographics

Many children show signs of being ready for potty training between ages 18 and 24 months. However, others might not be ready until they're 3 years old. There's no rush. If you start too early, it might take longer to train your child.

Make it a habit to sit your child on the potty daily before bathing and after every meal
Note:

Baby shouldn't sit on potty for longer that 5-7mins at a time. Any longer and baby might loose sight on exactly what potty is meant for and consider it play time.

Check every three hours for bowel movement,any sign of and have baby sit on the potty again.

Always ask if baby wants to poopoo/wee so they can associate the words "poo/wee" to bowel movement early enough.

Introduce baby to a training pant. A training paint is preferable so baby can learn to pull it down when necessary.

Start cutting off diaper. Restrict diaper to night use only. On waking up in the morning, after potty time wipe baby's bum and wear training paint. This will help baby differentiate between a wet uncomfortable pant and a dry comfortable one, encouraging baby to speak up to avoid the discomfort.

Start potty training early. This for me is the most important point to note. Start potty training as early as 6months if you can, because as baby grows that repetitive routine will stick and by the time mom is ready to let go of diapers, it won't be such a struggle for baby.

Always encourage baby anytime he poos or pees in the potty. Hug him, kiss him, sing, dance, smile, give him a treat for being such a good boy...just express how pleased and happy you are. As our babies are so amazing, they will always want to do that just to please you

Be patient. Potty training isn't easy....in fact nothing about motherhood is easy, just tap into that superpower we moms have and be patient with your child. Don't get frustrated, with time baby will adjust.

Never forget hygiene. Always remember to wash baby's hands after each potty time, it cannot be overemphasized.

3. Use a warm towel close to baby's face for baby to inhale steam.

4. Cut some pieces Of fresh onion unto tissue and put close to baby's head to inhale while sleeping. It helps dry out secretions and make breathing a lot more easy.

5. Always keep suppository paracetamol in the freezer. Good to first check baby's temperature, note it and then administer the suppository. Suppositories are convenient when baby is asleep. You need not wake baby up to drink their paracetamol.

5. Always keep Vit C at home. Syr 2.5ml for 6 mo - 1 yr olds
5ml for above 1 yr Olds. Vit C is Taken 3x daily or as a daily dose (dispersible in water)
