GN PASSES OUT 335 NEW YOUNG SAILORS
Ghana Navy’s (GN) Naval Recruit Training School (NRTS) has duly conferred pass-out status on Three Hundred and Thirty-Five (335) Young Sailors who have satisfied all training requirements and completed five months of Basic Training Intake 84 (BT 84).
Their Passing-Out Parade was held at the NRTS, Nutekpor, in the Volta Region of Ghana, on Friday, 27 January 2023, with the Reviewing Officer being Commodore (Cdre) Samuel Angmor (Rtd), supported by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) – Cdre Godwin Bessing.
Informing the Young Sailors that they have only been given the basics as far as fitness is concerned, Cdre Angmor (Rtd) encouraged them to maintain standards or possibly improve upon them, quoting Rudyard Kipling, “many nations have passed away and left no traces, for the simple reason that their people were not fit”.
He told them they have joined GN at a time that Ghana is grappling with security challenges in its maritime domain and in internal water bodies, thus the country will rely on the Young Soldiers to join in the fight against terrorism, military overthrows, political instability and secessionist activities in the sub-region, whiles they attend specialist qualification and promotion courses from time to time.
He instructed the new military personnel to have no business with debt collection, illegal-mining (galamsey) operations, settlement of personal disputes without recourse to the due processes of the law, and engaging in partisan politics, since Ghana’s military is neutral to partisan politics.
On Tuesday 30 August 2022, NRTS, under Commanding Officer – Lieutenant Commander (Lt Cdr) Emilio Okyere Dadzie, commenced BT 84 Training with 349 recruits, out of which 14 were terminated on various grounds of medical, disciplinary and falsification of certificates, with the unfortunate passing of 2 Recruits – Opoku Samuel and Owusu Derrick.
At the Awards, the following won; OVERALL BEST RECRUIT – Agbetorku Richmond Tetteh, BEST IN ACADEMICS – Ameyaw Patience Obvious, BEST IN DRILL – Abariga Emma Diyaani, BEST FEMALE RECRUIT – Haruna Salamatu, FOC’s LEADERSHIP – Birikorang Takyi Monica, and OVERALL BEST DIVISION – GNS SEBO.
Dignitaries present at the parade included the South Tongu District Chief Executive – Mr Seth Kwasi Agbi, GN Deputy Chief Staff Officer (Logistics) – Cdre Agyenim-Boateng, Flag Officer Fleet - Cdre Emmanuel Bright Kojo Atiayao, Directors from the General Headquarters and Naval Headquarters, Officers, Senior Officers from Sister Security Services, Master Coxswain, Coxswains, Sergeant Majors and Ratings.
