BRIEF HISTORY
Henokami culture troupe was founded in the year 2010 by Mr. Gideon Amanor Narteh who was driven by an intense need to salvage the eroding cultural folklore and dances as well as music. He was moved upon realization that as a child, he was exposed to various traditional activities such as story telling with drumming and dancing as a form of entertainment in the evening performed by f
ireside. However, this all-important cultural practice is almost faded although it was very lovely and educative then, but with the introduction of electricity which generated other forms of entertainment via the Television and currently, the internet, we are gradually loosing this very important aspect of our culture to television, videos, the internet, and what have you. So upon recognizing this, I shared the idea of the formation of the cultural troupe and friends also embraced the Idea. Initially, the group started with (30) thirty students from the three local schools in the new Ningo community namely, primary (A), primary (B), and the Junior High School (J.H.S.). Faced with initial difficulties which contradicted this initiative, there were changes day in day out but by the grace of God, we now have a (20) twenty member group made of talented, prolific and thriving drummers and dancers and also six member board of competent directors, comprising of, Mr. Gideon Amanor(Manager) with Jonathan Amanor, Joshua Terkutey, Michael Kwetey, Mr. Edmund Siaw Akugbe, Rose Donkor, Ms. Earna W.Terefe Kassa who is our International co-coordinator. There has been a great transformation and achievements from the formation of the Henokami Cultural Troupe. They are now the only popular culture troupe in new Ningo and its surroundings. Due to their great performances at festivals, parties, durbars, graduations, wedding receptions and birthday parties, people saw it and also recommended them to others, some government officials who intend to invite the troupe to government programmes such as inauguration of new districts assemblies, farmer’s day celebrations and Independence Day celebrations. So far, we have performed within Greater Accra and Volta Region, We really look forward to roam in ten (10) regions in Ghana.
