Ghanadistricts.com is a private initiative that was borne out of the desire to have a one stop shop information center for metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (MMDAs) in Ghana.
The website is aimed at promoting local governance in Ghana by way of providing basic information of the various MMDAs such as physical location of the district, demographics, the historical background of the place, the rich cultural, socio-economic, tourism potentials and current affairs among others.
It also examines how chief executives, coordinating directors and other officials as the main agents of government’s development efforts develop innovative solutions to long-standing socio-economic problems such as housing, transport, education, environment, employment etc.
For the past twelve years, the site has been running on a public-private partnership basis with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development which is the supervisory body of all these assemblies across the country.
The site links the various assemblies to the rest of the world affording visitors the opportunity of firsthand information of the day to day activities of the assemblies without necessarily having to travel there.
The site also provides opportunity for assemblies to be connected to investors across the world for development as well as establishing sister cities relations.
The project’s main stake holders are Ministry of local government and rural development, the local government service, institute of local government studies, ministry of information, MMDAS, NALAG, ASDCOD, NITA etc.
