Jamestown through the eyes of food: Specifically Kenkey and Fish. There are two types of Kenkey that’s made here. The Ga Kenkey and the Fante Kenkey. The major difference lies in the leaves used in wrapping it.

In the first, slide which is Ga Kenkey; corn husks are used to wrap the Kenkey before cooking. It has a unique taste that it gives the Kenkey.

In the 7th slide, the leaves used is dried Plantain leaves. This gives the Kenkey sort of a darker look when cooked and has its own unique taste.

Slide 7 We call it amadaa baa k)mi, to translate plantain leave kenkeyZ it is salted unlike Fante kenkey that is unsalted.

Is that how it’s done everywhere in Accra or it’s just in this particular community? I would love to know ☺️

In slides 4&5 We also took a little trip to Jamestown fishing area to look out how the fish is caught fresh and the different kinds of dishes. I have a video on that coming soon!

It’s safe to say if I’m ever craving Kenkey, I know exactly where I am going; JAMESTOWN!

What other foods or areas in James town would you recommend I explore?

As an Asante born and bred and having loved my whole life in Kumasi; the capital of the Ashanti region, I have seen many ways that food is made here.

Some are more traditional, others are modern and others are a mix of both. Recently I took a traditional cooking class and here are a few things that stood out to me. These are also things I’ve seen my mom who has been a cook for 30 years do a lot in her cooking.

1. The use of Prekese or Aidan fruit: this is one of the best flavor enhances in traditional Asante cooking. It is roasted to release it flavors and used in soups like light soup, palm nut soup, abunabunu and other local soups. It also has amazing health benefits.

2. Asante traditional soups consists of a lot of dry, smoked and salted fish and meat. There are several factors to this. First these methods were used as a form of preservation especially for the fish. There is no sea in Ashanti region, so the concept of fresh fish in local cuisine is relatively new and even with that most of them are frozen fish not actually fresh fish. I’ll expand more on this in coming videos

3. A lot of traditional cooking items like utensils, cookware, serving plates etc were made of wood, clay and stone. It’s a beautiful way to connect to Mother Nature , a more sustainable way of living and a healthier alternative to plastic. For example some of the most popular items like mortar, pestle, earthenware bowl are still made of wood and clay up till this day.

4. Etor is considered a sacred food in Asante culture and was eaten on special occasions. It is made during happy occasions like puberty rites, when a woman gives birth and even during festivals. It is basically mashed plantain with palm oil and other ingredients. Full video coming soon

5. Traditional Asante cooking uses little to no spices and seasoning. In fact we used only salt in making all the foods in this cooking class and it was so flavorful. As long as you know which ingredients to pair, your soup will taste good!

6. Asantes do not play about their fufu! Go into every major household on a Sunday and it’s a fufu party.

In this new year, All I wish for you is that you allow your ideas to see the light of day. That you do not let fear, the opinions of others, negative self talk and perfectionism stop you from truly living the life you desire.

And whiles we are here please do not despise humble beginnings. Nothing is easy and starting something new is definitely up there as one of the hardest things to do.

Give yourself grace and patience and allow your ideas to grow gradually while’s learning everything you can about it.

I wish you the very best and I pray and hope you end this year with a testimony of how you started, persisted and grew.

Happy new year family ❤️❤️❤️

October PHOTODUMP. I had a very challenging October but I also learned so much about myself this month. I finally started my podcast which I love so much.

1. October is ways going to be my favorite month because it’s the month I was born. So this year, I did a picnic themed birthday photo shoot to celebrate.

2. Been going on so many solo dates and I’m loving it. I’m pouring more into myself and learning more about myself outside work, family, relationships etc. it’s been a roller coaster journey but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

3. Me and the gym? Is a life long kinda ting 😎. It’s been so amazing seeing myself get stronger. Having the ability to make changes to my body and doing just that has been one of my best decisions. It’s been great for my mental, physical and emotional health. High recommended!

4. With being intentional about taking care of yourself comes eating meals that nourishes your body. Food is fuel to your body. It’s important to have complete control and knowledge of what you put in your body. Food is medicine.

5. Nature will always do it for me. Took some time out to go hiking in the nature reserve. I don’t want so tired but I loved it

6. My second birthday 🤪. I went on a birthday date with my sister and it was just what I needed. God has a great way of bringing certain people into your life just when you need it.

7. My podcast is finally live! Second episode coming this week. You can find it on Spotify for now. It’s all things personal growth and development

8. Planning out my second food donation event. Giving back is a big part of my brand and I can’t wait to see the smiles we will be able to put on peoples faces

9. For those who work from home, one tip I can give you is find a day out of the week to work outside the home. I do this when I have a lot on my plate and I want to eliminate all kinds of distractions

10. You are absolutely capable of creating the life you want for yourself. The one you can’t stop thinking about. It all starts with taking a step

One of the things I’ve done in my career which I’m very grateful for is documenting my process.

I have tons of footage from where I started, all the ups and downs and where I am. I also have a vision of where I am going.

There are so many times you will feel like you are not doing enough, and these documents can serve as a reminder that you are on the right path. Or that you need to push harder.

It doesn’t have to be for social media or for anyone else. But it can be just for you. When you do get to that destination you want to go, what will be your evidence of where you started?

That is why it’s important.

Anyways here are some photo shoots I’ve had since I started food blogging.

I worked more from a cafe in July because I was putting together content for my “Content Monetization class”

There are so many creators online producing amazing content and building communities! I always love to see it!

The content creation space in Ghana is still very fresh and green and there is so much space for everyone. It will continue to grow in the coming years!

That is why I want to show you all how it’s done! How you make real money from content creation. I’ve been monetizing since 2021 when I was at 3000 followers!

And I have gathered all the strategies, expert help, courses and classes I paid for and my experiences and put it together into a 2 days masterclass that will leave you super charged and ready to make some money!

The early bird rate is GHC 350, Regular rate is 499. looking at the material, y’all know it should be way more than this but for me, the creator economy growing is more important.

Trust me just one lesson from the above topics can cost more than the rate I’m giving.

Early bird window opens tomorrow! Get ready guys 🥳🥳🥳

The next 6 months is the best time to monetize as a creator! Take advantage of it 🤗🤗

See y’all tomorrow when the window opens! Those on the waitlist will get the link and information first so join the waitlist so you don’t miss it!

When I started food blogging, it never occurred to me that I could make money from it.

For those who know the full story, It was a happy accident. After creating my first monetization plan and creating an income goal for myself, I exceeded that amount to my pleasant surprise!

The beautiful thing about goals is that, once you set them your mind starts looking for ways to achieve them. The universe connives to help you reach the goal.

I will be teaching a class on how to make your first 5 figures as a food blogger no matter the number of followers you have.

I started monetizing at 3000 followers!

I have used the skills and techniques I used to monetize to teach several people to replicate it so it’s full proof.

I love teaching and sharing what I know and I do not believe you always have to make mistakes to figure things out. I’ve made the mistakes, now I teach people how to avoid those mistakes.

Do you have a monetization plan? Are you aware there are several services you can offer as a food content creator? Do you have proper accounting systems for your brand? Do you have a media kit that can attract brands to work with you and pay you?

Do you want to make money from your influence? Then this upcoming class is for you!

If this is something you find interesting, type “I’m in” in the comments section.

Full details coming soon 🥳🥳

I’m so excited for this class. We still have 6 months to go and so much can be done then. And here is the catch, these 6 months are the best months to make money as a creator!
