Another Sandema chieftaincy history
The Chief Architect of the Feok Festival, the man I call the "Proctocol-Breaker", His Royal Majesty, Nab Azantilow Ayieta, of blessed memory, was born around 1900,and like the late Queen Elizabeth, who was not born to be Queen, attaining the status of Crown Princess, only after her father became King George VI, following the abdication of the throne, by her Uncle(her father's brother) and consequently becoming Queen, after her father's death,in 6th February 1952 .Azantilow was not born to be Chief, giving the fact that Azantilow had many elder brothers, uterine and non-uterine, and uncles, which meant that becoming Chief was next to impossible, in the days of his youth, as the tradition then was that, the senior-most sibling or senior-most son of a deceased Chief, usually became Chief!
Along with the end of the Anaamkum Dynasty, famed for the defeat of Babatu, and the beginning of the Ayieta Dynasty, in the first decade of the 20th century, came a major change in the Chieftaincy Institution in Buluk--Ayieta became Paramount Chief of Buluk, in an election amongst Chiefs of Buluk, in which the Kanjarg-Nab, was his only competitor.
Following the death of our Patriarch, Ayieta, one of his senior-most sons, Afoko became Chief.
A Charismatic and Physically-Imposing Man, famous for his aristocracy, discipline and horse-riding, earning him the name Ajuewusuma, literally meaning "Climber of Horses", Afoko elevated the prestige of Buluk, sending signals to our neighbors Buluk could not be taken for granted!
After Afoko's death in the mid 1920s,Agaasa,a uterine senior brother to Abakisi, Azantilow and Akanchepung, became Chief, but was to reign only for about 3 years, the shortest reign to date in the Ayieta Dynasty,a reign characterized by heavy-handedness, deservedly earning him the name Awogbuluk, literally meaning "Buluk's Bully"(sad to mention this, but history must be told factually).
