Liverpool: Predicted XI & injury news v Madrid Liverpool travel to Spain to take on Real Madrid, and here is Football FanCast's predicted XI... Liverpool face a huge task in overturning a three-goal deficit against Real Madrid, having squandered a two-nil lead to fall to a chastening 5-2 defeat at Anfield in the Champions League three weeks ago.

Despite offering more promising form in the Premier League over the past several weeks, Jurgen Klopp's outift are a mere shadow of their former vigorous selves, and will require one of the great European performances to defeat Carlo Ancelotti's Los Blancos, who defeated the Reds in the previous Champions League edition's finale.Klopp stated in Liverpool's pre-match press conference that midfield pair Stefan Bajcetic and captain Jordan Henderson are both unavailable for the pivotal clash, citing injury and illness respectively, which compounds the quandary of Thiago Alcantara's absence, himself shackled to the medical room for the foreseeable future.

Liverpool can take solace in the knowledge that Real are nine points adrift of La Liga table-toppers Barcelona, who were recently beaten in the Europa League by Manchester United, but it will take a Herculean effort at the Santiago Bernabeu to salvage the last realistic chance for silverware this season nonetheless.

How will Klopp field his team vs Real Madrid?
Considering this, here is how Football FanCast expects Klopp to field his starting 11 against the record Champions League victors, with as little as two changes made from the team that fell to a meek defeat against relegation-battling Bournemouth last weekend.In goal, the usually imperious Alisson will retain his unwavering role in between the sticks, having made a costly error in the reverse fixture. Trent Alexander Arnold and Andy Robertson will maraud up and down the flanks, with Klopp unlikely to change his central defensive partnership of Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

The midfield will require a reshuffle, however, with the "incredible" - as dubbed by Klopp - 37-year-old Milner stepping in for Henderson, while Harvey Elliott and anchor Fabinho should keep their places.

Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez, Liverpool's two top goalscorers this season, will occupy the wings and seek to use inversions created by Roberto Firmino, stepping in for £35m winter signing Cody Gakpo in the centre-forward position, to wreak havoc on the home defence.

The alterations mean that Klopp will have the likes of the aforementioned Gakpo and Diogo Jota at his disposal from the bench, which could prove invaluable as the match approaches the latter stages, if the Reds require a moment of magic to complete a historic European comeback.

What's going on at Chelsea?
Graham Potter withstood a disastrous run of form to eventually turn Chelsea's fortunes around, putting together a number of wins in the league as well as knocking Borussia Dortmund out of the Champions League, although they were held at home this weekend.

In Europe, they have been drawn against holders Real Madrid in the quarter-finals, and given the form of both teams, it is hard to look past the Spanish champions as favorite's. However, Merson stated on Sky Sports (via Football Daily) that Chelsea's recent switch to a back three has made them dangerous going forward - and he now expects them to beat Carlo Ancelotti's side.

He said: "I think Chelsea are a dangerous, dangerous football team. The Champions League draw ain't kind, but I do expect them to beat Real Madrid over two legs, I do.

"I don't see them [finishing] in the Champions League places, but they are in a position where they will be able to rest people. Before the Real Madrid game, he could rest the whole 10 players that he believes are going to be the players playing against Real Madrid."

What has Chelsea's biggest problem been this season?
Chelsea have been solid defensively, as only Newcastle United, Arsenal and Manchester City have better defensive records. The main issue has been scoring goals, as they are currently averaging around one goal per game - which is significantly lower than anyone in the top half of the table.

Attacking signings such as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke are yet to have an impact on their attack, but the latter two have looked promising at times since they arrived in January.Without a recognised, in-form striker, Chelsea have lacked goals at times, and their lack of cutting-edge up front contributed heavily to their nightmare run of form.

They have also suffered injuries to key players such as Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Thiago Silva and N'Golo Kante throughout the campaign, and despite their large squad, they have struggled to maintain consistency until this recent run.

Their large squad means they will be able to heavily rotate their side ahead of the games against Real Madrid, and this could help them gain a fitness edge over the 14-time winners, but it will be a tough ask to beat them over two legs.

Manchester United could repeat their Casemiro masterclass with the signing of Federico Valverde One potential priority for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag this summer will seemingly be to find a quality, long-term fit to bolster his midfield ranks, with the Dutchman said to be targeting another 'leading' option in that central role.

The recent suggestion is that the 53-year-old could well have found his ideal candidate, with reports in Spain claiming that the Red Devils are willing to fork out around €80m (£72m) in order to sign Real Madrid sensation Federico Valverde.

The "unsung hero" of last season's Champions League final victory over Liverpool according to Cole, the 47-cap machine has caught the eye due to his boundless energy and running power in the middle of the park, showcased by his ranking in the top 5% for progressive carries among players in his position in Europe's big five leagues.

To be able to bolster the Old Trafford squad with the signing of such a dynamic asset - who also ranks in the top 9% in Europe for progressive passes received - would prove a real masterstroke for Ten Hag, with the hope being that Valverde can replicate the impact of former Real Madrid team-mate Casemiro in Manchester.

The experienced Brazilian has swiftly assumed cult hero status as a result of his displays so far this season, with United having moved to bring the 30-year-old to the Theatre of Dreams on a £70m deal in August following the Brentford horror show.

Aside from the recent blip against Crystal Palace, as the ex-Porto ace was sent off following a tussle with Will Hughes, it has largely been plain sailing so far, with the midfield colossus having been the "cement" in Ten Hag's side according to his manager.

That impact is evidenced by the 6 foot 1 powerhouse ranking fourth in the Premier League for tackles made (56), having also left many "surprised" - such as club legend Paul Scholes - due to his previously underappreciated quality on the ball, scoring four goals and supplying five assists to date.

It would appear that Casemiro has helped to revive the winning mentality in Manchester after previously flourishing in the Spanish capital, with it seemingly wise for Ten Hag to repeat that transfer masterclass by poaching Valverde from Los Blancos this summer.

As Mauricio Pochettino was building his squad, which seemed to improve with each passing season, it seemed even the measured Argentine succumbed to this pressure in the form of a few questionable deals during the end of his reign.

One such example was the decision to acquire Davinson Sanchez, who admittedly had enjoyed a fine last season at Ajax before moving to north London.
However, it was not a campaign that perhaps warranted his £42m fee, which shattered the club record at the time.

His 7.25 average rating in that concluding campaign in Amsterdam was underpinned by an 89% pass accuracy as he recorded 1.9 interceptions, 1.4 tackles and an impressive 5.2 clearances per 90 (via SofaScore). All signs pointed towards the Colombian being a stellar modern-day defender for the Lilywhites, but his career has not quite panned out as planned.

How much has Davinson Sanchez cost Spurs?
Whilst the astronomical initial price tag might have drawn initial scrutiny, the additional finances he has swallowed only serve to exacerbate just how poor a signing he has been.

Earning £65k-per-week for 289 weeks now, from wages alone the 26-year-old has also incurred £18.8m. Therefore, in total Sanchez has cost Daniel Levy £60.8m.

His 6.8 average rating for this league campaign is far from meriting such a price tag, and these impressive aforementioned statistics have made a harsh drop off to just 0.8 interceptions, 1.2 tackles and just 1.9 clearances per game, per SofaScore. Sanchez was handed an opportunity to perhaps prove himself a capable starter in their midweek FA Cup clash, yet they were knocked out by Championship outfit Sheffield United. Cristian Stellini's second-string side crumbled under the pressure of the high-flying Blades, with the 6 foot 2 dud partly to blame for their winner too.

TalkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy was full of contempt for the defender following the display, in which he claimed: "For the goal it’s like he’s moving in quicksand. He’s not interested. He’s terrible.”

His fall from grace has been dramatic, and a man who could have spearheaded Spurs to numerous trophies has instead been a drain on their resources for nearly six years now.
