CEO of NAKWADUS Group and Director of Multimedia Institute Condemns Galamsey, Urges Young Journalists to Uphold Truth || April 27, 2025 ||
The 10th Matriculation Ceremony of the Multimedia Institute of Ghana was marked by a passionate and inspiring speech from Nana Kwaku Duah, the Director of the Institute and CEO of NAKWADUS Group of Companies. Addressing the newly admitted students and guests at the ceremony, Nana Kwaku Duah took the opportunity to denounce the growing threat of illegal mining—commonly referred to as galamsey—and called on the next generation of journalists to be fearless in their pursuit of truth.
In his speech, Nana Kwaku Duah described illegal mining as a national crisis that is robbing the country of its natural resources and polluting the environment at an alarming rate. “Our rivers are turning brown, our lands are being degraded, and our communities are suffering,” he said. “It is time we stand united and say ‘enough is enough.’ Galamsey is not only illegal, it is immoral and unsustainable.”
The director stressed the importance of responsible journalism in the fight against galamsey, urging the incoming students to use their skills and platforms to expose wrongdoing and educate the public. “You are not just students of journalism, you are future guardians of the truth,” he told the matriculants. “Do not bend your voice for money or fear. Ghana needs journalists who are bold, honest, and committed to justice.”
Nana Kwaku Duah also encouraged the students to focus on excellence, discipline, and innovation as they embark on their academic journey. He highlighted the vital role the media plays in shaping public opinion and influencing national policy, particularly in the areas of environmental protection, governance, and community development.
The matriculation ceremony was attended by faculty members, students, parents, and industry professionals. It marked a milestone in the Institute’s mission to train media professionals who can bring about positive change in Ghana and beyond.
In closing, Nana Kwaku Duah reminded the audience that change begins with individual action. “Let your education empower you not just to earn a living, but to live with purpose,” he said. “Speak the truth, even when it is unpopular. That is the true calling of journalism.”
The speech received a standing ovation and left a powerful impression on all who were present, reinforcing the Institute’s commitment to producing media practitioners of integrity and impact.
