A statement made by Baba Sadiq during Joy FM’s Manifesto Debate on Creative Economy held on September 14, 2024, has stoked controversy.

The Parliamentary Candidate for Okaikoi Central Constituency, attributed the origin of the December in GH initiative to Live FM. He noted that the initiative by the NPP government isn’t a novelty.

While the Chief Executive of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman intimated that the December in GH project was launched in August 2019, Baba Sadiq replied that its origin predates the date cited by the GTA boss.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has said the military should not play a key role in the security of the 2024 general elections.

He says it is the duty of the Police to provide security during the polls. The military can only come when the need arises, he said.

Speaking in an interview with TV3’s Beatr9ce Adu, he said “The military has no business when we are doing election until there is a need. We do not want to see our military moving. they have to be in positions, when the need arises then they intervene.”

Mr Bagbin further stated that the 2024 general election is totally different from the previous ones held in the Fourth Republic.

He says this is a critical election that will determine whether the country is truly committed to the cause of multiparty constitutional democracy.

The Minority in Parliament has launched a fierce critique of the Akufo-Addo administration, accusing the President and his ministers of sponsoring illegal mining activities, known locally as galamsey, and facilitating land grabs for personal gain.

At a press briefing in parliament on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, the Ranking Member of Lands and Natural Resources, Alhassan Suhuyini Sayibu accused President Akufo-Addo of what he described as the government’s “State Capture” of critical national assets.

He accused the government of manipulating state power to benefit a select few individuals and businesses and described the situation as a clear case of state capture, where powerful entities exert undue influence over the state’s decision-making processes to their advantage, at the expense of public interest.

Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has reiterated his resolve to protect the religious, moral and cultural sanctity of the people of Ghana claiming there will not be space for practicing of LGBTQI+ activities under his watch.
