Former Ningo-Prampram MP ET Mensah dies
Former Member of Parliament for the Ningo-Prampram constituency and Council of State member, ET Mensah has died aged 77.
It's been understood that he died in South Africa last night after battling ill-health for some time.
This comes on the back of the demise of former First Lady Theresa Kufuor on Sunday, October 1, 2023.
Enoch Teye Mensah (born 17 May 1946) was a Minister for Education and a Member of Parliament in Ghana from January 1997 till January 2017.
He was popularly referred to as ET Mensah and was married with seven children.
During the time of the PNDC military regime in Ghana, he was the long-time Chief Executive of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), akin to being the Mayor of the City of Accra. He joined the National Democratic Congress when it was formed in 1992.
He also stood for the parliamentary election in 1996 and was elected MP for the Ningo-Prampram constituency, holding the seat for almost a decade.
After the NDC lost the 2000 elections, he continued as a member of parliament. Mensah lost the NDC primaries to Sam George on 21 November 2015.
He once served as the Minority Chief Whip in parliament prior to the Ghanaian parliamentary election in 2008. In January 2009, he became the Majority Chief Whip in Parliament.
At the beginning of the Fourth Republic, he was appointed Minister for Youth and Sports by President Jerry Rawlings. Mensah held that position through both terms of the Rawlings government. In January 2010, after a cabinet reshuffle, President John Atta Mills appointed him Minister for Employment and Social Welfare.
Mensah was a member of the Pan-African Parliament until January 2009, when he resigned after being appointed a member of state.[8] In January 2011, he was appointed Minister for Education following the resignation of Betty Mould-Iddrisu.

Former First Lady Theresa Kufuor Is Dead
It Was gathered that Theresa Kufuor, the wife of former President John Agyekum Kufuor died at her home in Peduase surrounded by her family on Sunday, October 1. She was 87.
President Nana Akufo-Addo has already visited the residence of former President Kufuor to extend his condolences.
Theresa Kufuor (born 25 October 1935) was the wife of John Kufuor, the second President of the Fourth Republic of Ghana, and former First Lady of Ghana. She was a retired nurse and midwife.
Mrs Kufuor started her education at the Catholic Convent, OLA, at Keta in the Volta Region of Ghana. She later went to London, where she was educated as a Registered General Nurse, in the Southern Hospital Group of Nursing, Edinburgh, Scotland.
After further study at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford and Paddington General Hospital, London, she qualified as a State Certified Midwife with a Certificate in Premature Nursing.
Theresa married John Kufuor when he was at age 23 after they met at a Republic Day Anniversary Dance in London in 1961. They got married in 1962. She is a mother of five and a grandmother of eight. She is a devout Roman Catholic.
Despite being the first lady of Ghana for eight years between 2001 and 2009, she managed to maintain a low profile in the political arena.
In 2007 she pushed for policy changes in the Government’s white paper on Educational Reforms towards the implementation of UNESCO’s Free compulsory universal basic education (FCUBE) program for kindergarten children.
She founded the Mother and Child Community Development Foundation (MCCDF), a non-governmental organisation operating in Ghana and Canada that supports work in the prevention of mother-to-child transmission.

BREAKING: Ahead Of Troops Invasion, Junta Leaders Reportedly Evacuate Families To Dubai And Burkina Faso—-There are strong indications that members of the Niger junta have begun to evacuate their families to Bukina Faso and Dubai over the threat of invasion by the Economic Community of West African States.
The exercise was, reportedly, carried out at the country’s Agadez Airport, a few days ago, and it involved Gulfstream G550 jets.
A source familiar with the movement said, “In the night of Friday, 11th to Saturday 12th of August 2023, the Nigerien junta, under the command of General Tchiani, evacuated all the putschists’ families. Indeed, several Gulfstream G550 type aircraft (in particular flight No. BFY824R) took off from Agadez Airport to Burkina Faso and Dubai with their women and children on board.”
According to the source, “General Tchiani appears to have had intelligence of an imminent attack by ECOWAS. He protects his family and leaves Nigerien people behind to a certain death. While he shelters his family, Tchiani is ready to send soldiers into a fratricidal war.
“Like any selfish and totalitarian putschists, he already uses state finances for personal purposes. It is at the expense of the Nigerien state that he sends his family to live richly under the Dubai sun. The junta does not hesitate a moment to set ablaze Niger while preparing a golden exit in Dubai.”
This is as ECOWAS said it was ready to intervene militarily in Niger Republic if diplomatic efforts to persuade the ruling military junta, which ousted President Mohamed Bazoum in a July 26 coup, to restore democracy in the country failed. ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security, Abdel-Fatau Musah, disclosed this Thursday in Ghana at a gathering of West African defence chiefs, who were meeting to deliberate on a standby force.
“Let no one be in doubt that if everything else fails, the valiant forces of West Africa…are ready to answer to the call of duty,” Reuters quoted Musah as saying. “By all means available, constitutional order will be restored in the country,” he added
Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, said at the start of the two-day meeting in Accra, “Democracy is what we stand for and it’s what we encourage…
“The focus of our gathering is not simply to react to events, but to proactively chart a course that results in peace and promotes stability.”
The meeting to discuss Niger’s crisis came after the August 6 deadline for the mutinous soldiers to release and reinstate Bazoum or face military intervention. Bazoum has remained under house arrest with his wife and son in Niger’s capital, Niamey.
ECOWAS had long deliberated on the use of force, which it described as a “last resort” due to several mediation teams it sent to Niamey and also for a lack of consensus within its ranks.
Burkina Faso and Mali, which have experienced multiple coups since 2020, warned that any military intervention in Niger would be declared as an act of war, revealing a fracture in the region between its coastal countries and those in the volatile Sahel.
Guinea, which is also under military rule and had condemned any external aggression, refrained from making any other comments.
The top security body of AU met on Monday to consider whether it would support military intervention, but had yet to make its decision public.
The AU’s Peace and Security Council could overrule a military intervention if it feels the wider stability on the continent will be threatened. If it rejects the use of force, there are few grounds under which ECOWAS can claim legal justification.

Prior to the incident, Josephine and her police boyfriend had parted ways but he came back to beg for reconciliation.

Josephine’s body was recovered by the roadside after a pragya driver confessed that his boss (Josephine’s police boyfriend) is the one who killed Josephine.
Meanwhile, the police officer is nowhere to be found at the moment as he has absconded

Reports reaching Us has it that, the daughter of the Bekwai Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon Kwaku Kyei Baffour has been shot dead by unknown assailants.
The deceased believed to be 3o years of age, was reportedly shot dead by some unknown gunmen over what is not known
This sad incident happened at Bebu near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region when the victim identified as Akua Serwaa was attacked by the assailants on Thursday, August 3 203 at about 8 pm in the Evening.
Police confirmed the unfortunate incident to this portal but were quick to add that investigations were ongoing to establish the intent of the attack
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the Bekwai Municipal Hospital morgue pending autopsy.
The family of the deceased is yet to make a public announcement

A former Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Hanny Sherry Ayittey has passed.
This was announced by her family in a press release issued on Saturday, July 22.
The family in the statement said it will issue further details later.
“The head of the family, Nii Kofi Ayittey of Akwetey Nantan, Osu Alata, announce with deep sorrow the death of their beloved daughter and sister, Hon. Hanny Sherry Ayittey, on July 22, 2023.”

An unnamed woman who allegedly confessed to being a witch after transforming from a bird to a human being has revealed how much she charged for the night operation.
She reportedly told a group of prayer warriors who accosted her a little after midnight that she had been sent by the big deity from New Winneba to come and afflict a victim in the particular house where prayers were being held.
A prayer leader who claims to have first sighted a bird that later turned into a woman at Gomoa Mampong in the Central Region told the media how the episode unfolded and how together with other prayer warriors, they accosted the intruder.
The unnamed prayer warrior, in an interview with Metro TV (July 17) said of the cost of the operation: “She confessed that she was sent by the big deity in Winneba and I asked her mission.
“She said she had been contracted to the tune of 50 cedis to come and afflict the life of the victim who lived in the house.”
The prayer warrior went on to explain how she accosted the alleged witch till daybreak: “I told her that today the end has come and I will not release her till daybreak and the masses come and see her.”
The above account was corroborated by a brother of the victim in a separate interview with the media.
According to reports, the afflicted person lives his normal life during the day but experiences excruciating headache during the nights hence the decision to organize prayers in the house after every midnight.
On the fateful day when the prayer warriors encountered the intruder, they detained the alleged witch who was in a black straight dress with some shrubs around her neck till members of the public and the media were invited the following morning.
Nana Antwi, who is a sub-chief of the area, is reported to have urged the community members not to touch the young lady, while he called on the police to come and attend to the situation.
The case of the alleged 30-year-old-bird-turned-woman has since been referred to the Ghana Police Service at Gomoa Okyereko.

Tema Court jails three businessmen to 10 years imprisonment
The court presided over by Ms. Bertha Aniagyei sentenced Ben Ograh, Carl Kumodzi, and Solomon Nana Yaw Amoako, based on their guilty plea to 10 years on both counts to run concurrently.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mrs. Stella Odame, prosecuting, said Complainant Beatrice Ampofo is a shipper working at CMA CGM Ghana, a shipping Company located at Meridian Area in Tema.
Ben Ograh, 35, is a businessman and a Forklift Operator residing at Adenta in Accra.
ASP Odame said Carl Kumodzi, aged 27 years old, is a clearing Agent staying in Oyibi, and Solomon Nana Yaw Amoako, 35 years old, is an electrician residing in Nungua. Kumodzi and Amoako are friends.
He recounted that on January 23, 2019, Kumodzi called John Mensah a witness in the case and told him that his client needed containers to export cashew nuts to Shanghai, China.
ASP said on February 4, 2019, Mensah contacted CMA CGM Ghana, a shipping Company based in Tema, and collected 14 containers from the complainant.
Mensah loaded all the containers on trucks and deposited them in a warehouse at Spintex for the loading of cashew nuts for export.
The prosecution said Ograh and Kumodzi on receipt of the containers, called Amoako, whom they planned with, and they all reloaded the 14 containers on trucks and deposited them in a warehouse at Spintex for the loading of cashew nuts for export.

The Prosecution said they discharged the containers at Adenta, Madina, and Pantang Hospital Area, all suburbs of Accra, and sold them without loading any cashew nuts for export, as claimed by the accused persons, and thereafter went into hiding.
On March 23, 2019, a complaint was lodged at the Tema Regional Criminal Investigation Department. During the investigation, Ograh, Kumodzi, and Amoako were arrested at their hideouts at Adenta, Oyibi, and Community 5 in Tema.
ASP Odame said they led Police to Abokobi, Ashaiman, Adenta, Community 11, and Afienya, where five stolen containers were retrieved. Further investigation revealed that there was no warehouse stocked with cashew nuts at Spintex.
The Prosecution said Ograh, who claimed to be the exporter of cashew nuts, did not deal in cashew at all, but only used the means to dishonestly appropriate the containers; the cost of one container is GH¢9,918.00, and the total value of the fourteen containers is GH¢138,843.69.
The value of the nine containers yet to be recovered is GH¢89,258.00. Investigations are ongoing to get their accomplices, Yaw and KK, who are on the run, arrested.
Meanwhile Ogarh, Kumodzi, and Amoako are assisting the police in recovering the remaining nine containers from Kumasi and other places in Ghana.

FDA Suspends Production Of Anointed Family Water

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has suspended the operations of “Anointed Family Water”, a registered sachet water brand with registration number FDA/WT 22G-595.
The water is produced at New Bortianor under unhygienic conditions at a risk to public health and safety, following a recent inspection of its facility by the Authority.
During the inspection, the FDA inspection team also found several pieces of Rena Aqua sachet water, an unregistered brand, on the premises, which were seized.
The inspection forms part of the Authority’s routine activities to ensure the safe production of sachet water for public consumption.
The public is hereby advised to refrain from consuming Anointed Family Water and the unregistered Rena Aqua brand.
Retailers and distributors are also instructed to remove all stocks of Anointed Family Water as well as Rena Aqua in the trade until further notice.
The FDA remains committed to its mission of safeguarding public health by ensuring strict adherence to regulations and standards in the food and beverage industry.
Consumers are therefore encouraged to be vigilant and report any concerns regarding the quality of regulated products to the FDA.

Two persons have been killed following the collapse of a storey building at Ngleshie Amanfro in the Ga South municipality.The two are the owner of the facility and a nurse.The owner, identified as Hanna Lomotey was killed on the spot on Tuesday afternoon while the second person, a nurse died while receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic on Tuesday night.Three other persons comprising a set of twins and another nurse are currently on admission at the Winneba Truma Hospital.A witness, Felix said the five persons were relaxing under the one storey building when it collapsed on them.

Former Cameroon striker Samuel Eto’o was handed a 22-month suspended prison sentence by a Spanish court on Monday after admitting tax fraud of 3.8 million euros ($4.00 million) while he was playing for Barcelona.
Eto’o agreed to pay a fine of 1.8 million euros and the 3.8 million in tax owed from image rights between 2006 and 2009.
“I admit the facts and I am going to pay what I’m due, but let it be known that I was a just a child then and that I always did what my former agent Jose Maria Mesalles, who I considered like a father, asked me to do at that time,” Eto’o, who is now 41, told the court in Barcelona on Monday.
Mesalles was given a one-year suspended jail term.
The prosecution had requested prison sentences of four years and six months each for Eto’o and Mesalles.
The sentences were suspended as neither Eto’o nor Mesalles have a criminal record and the terms are under two years.

Accra, July 4, GNA – An Adentan Circuit Court has sentenced an evangelist and a prophetess to a total jail term of 11 years for stealing GHC265,000 from a retired lecturer’s account.
Samuel Kwesi Tsogbe, the 33-year-old evangelist was sentenced to six years imprisonment and Esther Christ, a 63-year-old prophetess was put away for five years.
Charged with stealing, Tsogbe and Esther, self-ordained pastors of Cornerstone Ministry International, pleaded guilty.
The accused persons were said to have travelled from Kpando to Accra to offer prayers to the bedridden lecturer.
During their stay at the lecturer’s house, the duo siphoned the money from his account.
After stealing the money, Tsogbe and Esther opened an account at another bank and channelled the stolen funds into the said account.
They also sent away the 72-year-old lecturer’s housekeeper, whom they claimed was the cause of the victim’s predicament.
Police investigations showed that the accused persons had bought a tipper truck, and a Hyundai Might 2 vehicle and rented a shop in the Oti Region.
Tsogbe told the court to forgive him as he did not know his action would turn out this way.
“I apologize for this; I have learnt my lesson.”
Esther also informed the court that she was a foreigner and that she came to Ghana through another prophet.
“I am sorry for my actions,” Esther told the court.
The court presided over by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah convicted the accused persons on their own pleas.
The trial described the accused persons conduct as “unpalatable.”
The court was not enthused with the way people were using spirituality to exploit the vulnerable, hence handing down a deterrent sentence.
It ordered the seizure of items purchased and owned by the accused persons.
The court also froze the account of Tsogbe and restrained him or other persons from withdrawing money from the said account.
The prosecution led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo said the complainant, Margaret Dzandu is a teacher, residing at Kpando whiles the victim is a retiree residing at Danfa.
Chief Inspector Lanyo said the complainant is the victim’s niece.
The prosecution said the accused persons are self-ordained pastors of Cornerstone Ministry International, Kpando.
According to the prosecution, the accused persons also reside at Kpando.
It said 2022, the accused persons convinced the complainant that they had a revelation about her uncle’s predicament and persuaded her to send them to pray for the victim.
The prosecution said the accused persons occupied the home of the victim and thereafter sacked his housekeeper. They then engaged a new house help from Kpando.
Tsogbe and Esther then stay with the victim for five months.
On May 4, 2022, Tsogbe and Esther took the victim to NIB bank to withdraw GHC200,000 from his account. They also managed to steal the victim’s National Investment Bank (NIB) ATM card and Cheque Book.
On September 22, 2022, the prosecution said they started transferring monies from the victim’s NIB account to Tsogbe’s account till June 2, 2023.
The prosecution said during June 2023, the complainant visited the victim who needed money. The victim’s ATM Card and Chequebook were nowhere to be found in the house during a search.
It said the complainant’s preliminary investigations showed that the accused persons had stolen her uncle’s ATM Card and the chequebook.
The prosecution said the complainant reported the matter to the Police at Kpando and an extract was given to her to send to the Police at Ayi Mensah.
When the accused were arrested by the police, they admitted stealing the victims’ ATM and Cheque book and the same were retrieved from them.Stay tuned for Updated News
