As we gather to celebrate the commissioning of an ultra-modern nursery school in Abeye by Dr. and Mrs. Nduom and the Groupe Nduom Foundation, we reflect on the profound impact they have had in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality.
Dr. Nduom's contributions span across education, employment, healthcare, tourism, and media, truly shaping KEEA’s landscape. His commitment to education is demonstrated through community libraries in Komenda, Agona, and Elmina, providing vital resources to inspire learning and growth. Furthermore, the Nduom University of Business & Technology equips students with skills for the future, while the Nduom Industrial Estate—home to Fresh Pak, GN Electronics, and Ocean1 Printing—provides local employment and supports small businesses.
In tourism, Coconut Grove Beach Resort and Coconut Grove Bridge House bring visitors to KEEA, boosting the local economy and highlighting the area’s rich heritage. The Nduom Sports Stadium, home to the Elmina Sharks and Sea Lions football clubs, fosters community spirit and athletic development. Additionally, Ahomka FM and Ocean1 TV connect the community and amplify local voices.
With the anticipated Nduom Hospital, residents will gain critical healthcare access, ensuring the well-being of KEEA’s families.

Elmina: The Dutch Legacy
First Battle of Elmina (25th October 1625)
Today marks 379 years that the Dutch made it's first attempt to take over the Elmina Castle in the Portuguese Gold Coast. Between 1,200 Dutch soldiers of the Dutch West India Company landed by a fleet of 15 ships and the Portuguese garrison of the castle reinforced by 200 African allies put in service of the governor Sottomayor by the local caciques.
The Dutch eventually withdrew and returned 12 years later on 24 August 1637 for the second battle of Elmina, which lasted 3 days. This led to the 235 years stay of the Dutch in Elmina. This is the first trailer to our upcoming 3 Part Series Elmina: The Dutch Legacy, which looks at the legacy of the Dutch after their 235 years stay in Elmina.

The new Elmina Fishing Harbour cost €84 million and aims to boost local fishing activities. Meanwhile, the $7.8 million Elmina Fish Processing Plant built earlier faced delays but was meant to reduce post-harvest losses and add value to the local fishing industry.
With Elmina contributing about 15% of Ghana's fish output, why wasn’t the fish processing plant incorporated into the new harbour project? Based on similar facilities in Ghana and across West Africa, a fish processing plant like the one in Elmina could have employed anywhere from 300 to 500 workers, including those involved in fish cleaning, filleting, packaging, and cold storage operations.
