The Crossroads to End the Worst-Ever Government: Understanding Nana Akufo-Addo and Bawumia

Ghana is at a critical juncture. The current administration, led by President Nana Akufo-Addo and Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, has been widely criticized for its handling of the economy, corruption, and overall governance. As the country teeters on the brink of collapse, it's essential to understand the dynamics at play and the role of Akufo-Addo and Bawumia in this crisis.

*The Economic Mess*

The Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration has presided over one of the worst economic periods in Ghana's history. The country's debt has ballooned, inflation has skyrocketed, and the currency has depreciated significantly. The government's response to these challenges has been inadequate, with many critics accusing them of being out of touch with the struggles of ordinary Ghanaians.

*Corruption and Incompetence*

The Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration has also been plagued by corruption scandals and incompetence. From the botched PDS deal to the questionable Agyapa Royalties transaction, the government has faced numerous allegations of corruption and cronyism. Furthermore, the administration's handling of critical issues like healthcare, education, and infrastructure development has been woefully inadequate.

*The Bawumia Factor*

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has been a key figure in the Akufo-Addo administration. As the head of the Economic Management Team, Bawumia has been instrumental in shaping the government's economic policies. However, his tenure has been marked by controversy, with many critics accusing him of being overly partisan and divisive.

*The Akufo-Addo Enigma*

President Nana Akufo-Addo has been a dominant figure in Ghanaian politics for decades. However, his presidency has been marked by a sense of detachment and aloofness. Many Ghanaians feel that Akufo-Addo is out of touch with their struggles and concerns. His administration's handling of critical issues like corruption, economic development, and social justice has been widely criticized.

*The Way Forward*

As Ghana stands at the crossroads, it's essential to recognize that the country deserves better. The Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration has failed to deliver on its promises, and it's time for a change. The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has a critical role to play in holding the government accountable and offering a viable alternative.

*Conclusion*

Ghana is at a critical juncture, and the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration has failed to deliver. It's time for a change, and the opposition NDC must rise to the challenge. As we move forward, it's essential to recognize that the country deserves better and that a brighter future is possible.

BUSINESS NEWS | GHANA AND BEYOND 🌍 25/11/2024

🚩The International Monetary Fund (IMF) board is set to meet in early December and approve the disbursement of US$360 million to Ghana. This will be in line with Ghana passing the third review under the fund programme. “Once the review is completed by the IMF's executive board, Ghana would have access to about $360 million in terms of disbursement”, the Director of Communications at the IMF Julie Kozack disclosed at news conference in Washington DC USA. Describing the programme performance as encouraging, Ms. Kozack said Ghana has followed the requirements needed for the country’s debt restructuring. She pointed out that some macroeconomic projections have been achieved under the programme, indicating some level of recovery.

🚩Ghana is ranked 7th in the world as the biggest beneficiary of World Bank funding. The country has received a total of US$11.2 billion of the International Development Association (IDA) funding from 1961 to 2024. Ethiopia (US$23.4 billion), Nigeria (US$18.8 billion) and Vietnam (US$18.5 billion) are ranked 1st, 2nd 3rd respectively. China is ranked 8th with IDA funding of US$10.2 billion. Eight of the 10 biggest beneficiary countries are from Sub-Sahara Africa.

🚩Countries at the COP29 summit in Baku adopted a $300 billion a year global finance target on Sunday to help poorer nations cope with impacts of climate change, a deal its intended recipients criticised as woefully insufficient. The agreement, clinched in overtime at the two-week conference in Azerbaijan's capital, was meant to provide momentum for international efforts to curb global warming in a year destined to be the hottest on record. The agreement would provide $300 billion annually by 2035, boosting rich countries' previous commitment to provide $100 billion per year in climate finance by 2020. That earlier goal was met two years late, in 2022, and expires in 2025.
