Today's HOLY TEA-CUP : Prophet Anyigbanya re-echo his position saying nothing is gonna stop him from embarking on this dangerous mission even if it will take his last blood to do that. According to him the practice is barbaric and inhuman and needs to be condemned. His concern is about the way they drag the lifeless body of their victims and again alleged their bodies are sometimes sold out for ritual purposes. On the other hand, the mediator of Nogokpo Shrine is sending a strong signal to the family of the prophet to call him to order or blame themselves. : PEPSIN

NDC WILL WIN BY 54%

The NDC aspiring Member of Parliament for the OKaikoi North Constituency, Mr. Andrew Nii Okaikoi, has predicted a 54% victory for the NDC in the December polls.

Speaking to party supporters during his door-to-door campaign at Fadama in Accra Tuesday, he said, “From what our polls and other surveys show, NDC is winning massively by 53%- 54%.”

The NDC, he said, is winning the 2012 general elections based on the fact that the president and his team have delivered on their promises and have brought smiles on the faces of many Ghanaians.

“My people, apart from the free SHS that the NPP is talking about, can u tell me what their campaign message is?,” he asked, adding that, “NPP and Nana Addo have no message because President Mills has done all that they can think of and we are going to do more in the next four years.”

The NDC Okaikoi North Parliamentary Candidate said he was not at least enthused about the lies and insults that the NPP is peddling around.

Mr. Okoikoi was particularly upset about the comments made by Sheikh I.C Quaye that the NDC are bunch of thieves.

Who are more thieves than the NPP, he queried, stating that falsehood and insults will not win votes for any political party the December election.
“The election will be won based on the achievements of a party for which this government has the upper hand,” he said.

As an aspiring Member of Parliament for Okaikoi North, Mr. Andrew Okaikoi rallied the people to vote massively to ensure that the party takes the constituency seat from the NPP.

“President Mills will win the elections and if we want to get proper share of the national cake in this constituency, let’s change things here, vote for me to bring the needed development to the area.”

Accusing the NPP for taking the people of the area for granted, although they have always voted for them, Mr. Okoikoi tasked the people to show that they have power and that they will not entertain people who are not ready to help them achieve their goals.

“Okaikoi North needs a community library, good roads, the market women must have a conducive environment to trade, we must offer our schools the best of equipment and materials…If elected to serve you, I will be meeting opinion leaders every month for deliberation on matters that affect the constituency, I will establish an MP office that will deal with grievances from our people no matter which political party you belong to, I will help establish a vocational institute which will help train our youth in masonry, carpentry, and other handiworks.”

NDC, NPP, CPP, PNC sue EC

The General Secretaries of the four main political parties have, in an unprecedented move, jointly sued the Electoral Commission seeking to stop it from going ahead with by-elections in Wulensi and Kwabre West.

The ruling NDC, the main opposition NPP as well as the PNC and CPP today came together to file a writ at the high court against the EC and the Attorney General.

The parties argue that the EC cannot go ahead with the bye-elections called in the wake of the death of two MPs because of the absence of a valid voters register.

General Secretary of the NPP Kwodwo Owusu Afriyie confirmed this to Joy News saying all the General Secretaries of the four major political parties have given their consent for the writ to be filed.

He said they are not by this writ challenging the constitutional power of the EC to organize elections but was quick to add, that per Constitution Instrument 72 the EC cannot hold elections with the old voters register.

The EC has penciled July 31, 2012 for the Wulensi bye-elections and August 14 for the Kwabre West and has begun receiving nominations for the Wulensi by election but the parties say they will not be part of it.

Acting Public Relations officer of the Commission Sylvia Annor told Joy News the new register is not yet ready for use.

She explained the register must go through some processes, including exhibition but they are yet to do that.

She said until all corrections are made and the register exhibited they cannot use the biometric register for the bye-elections.

She was emphatic the EC will use the old register for the two bye elections after which it will clean the biometric register for the December General elections.

But the parties will have none of that. Owusu Afriyie said it will be wrong for the EC to go ahead with the elections with the old register and they will not be part of it.

He noted any action by the EC to use the old register for the elections will be "illegal, unreasonable and arbitrary."

He said they have filed a writ at the High Court to place an order of "perpetual injunction on the EC from conducting the elections."

The General Secretary of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia affirmed the decision taken by his colleague in the NPP but was quick to sympathize with the EC who he said have been caught up in a difficult situation.

He said it was practically unreasonable for the parties to spend money, raise political tension and take part in the bye-elections only for the general elections to be held in December.

He explained even if the two elections are held, the winners will only be sworn in October because the Parliament will be on recess after which they will sit for three weeks and then another elections will be held.

Asiedu Nketia said "hell will not break lose if we do not hold these two elections."

10/05/2012

The former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has threatened to place a ban on the use of the NDC party’s logo, the umbrella, if the party continues to disrespect her family, the founder and the values enshrined in the logo and the constitution for that matter.

In a letter written to the National Chairman of the NDC, Dr. Kwabena Adjei, by Nana Konadu’s solicitors, it stated that “as you may be aware, our client holds the copyright to the political party logo being used by the NDC party as its registered political party symbol and known as the ‘akatamanso’ (umbrella).

“Our client’s intellectual property rights in the said symbol were duly registered on the 12th of April 2010 under the Copyright Act (2005), Act 690.”

According to the letter in the possession of Citifmonline.com, dated 7th May 2012, Nana Konadu gave her unhindered permission to the party to use the logo. She also reminded the party at its Sunyani Congress of "her exclusive intellectual property interests and particularly warned the party against the infringement of her exclusive moral rights in the logo stipulated under sections 6(a) and (b) of the Act."

The letter, however, said those rights Nana Konadu mentioned “are still being infringed upon by both party leadership both in their public utterances and deeds and thereby denigrating the symbolic value of the logo. Our client believes that those values were embodied in the vision of the founder of the party and subsequently enshrined in the constitution of the party.

“Our client further instructs that the said denigration of the logo has manifested in disrespect for the founder, the disunity of the party, the neglect of its egalitarian values, lack of accountability by key party leaders to the membership of the party and consequently in the disaffection of the rank and file.

“Our client therefore demands the immediate end to the continuous infringement and denigration of her exclusive intellectual property rights in the logo. That unless steps are taken by the party to that effect, our client will feel compelled to withdraw her permission for the use of the logo by the party,” it read in part.

If the former first lady goes ahead with the threat, many have begun wondering what logo the NDC would use for the 2012 elections.

Citifmonline.com broke the news sometime back that the Rawlingses had declared their intentions of forming a new party to be called the ‘National Democratic Party’.
