Defence Counsel for Charles Nii Armah Mensah, aka Shatta Wale, Mr. Jerry Avenorgbo has rejected moves by the Police to withdraw the charge sheet for the musician.

He contended that the police is not empowered to withdraw the charge and that they should justify their actions before the court. Shatta Wale, a dance hall artiste is standing trial with Kojo Owusu Koranteng, aka “Nana Dope”, Eric Ventnor, aka “Gangee” and Iddrisu Yusif for publication of false news.

“The applications should be rejected and be treated as an infected one,” he said. Mr. Avenorgbo’s call for rejection of the withdrawal of the charge sheet came after the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Dennis Terkpetey, informed the court based on new facts, that they wanted to withdraw the charge against Mr. Mensah and substitute it with a new one. Guinea Bissau 🇬🇼
Guinea-Bissau's President Umaro Sissoco Embalo survived an attempted coup on Tuesday but said many members of the security forces had been killed repelling an attack on democracy that may have been linked to drug trafficking.

Earlier, heavy gunfire rang out near a government compound where Embalo had been chairing a cabinet meeting. The situation was unclear for several hours, during which the African Union and West African bloc ECOWAS condemned what they called "an attempted coup".

I have received sad news of the passing of Brigadier General Constance Ama Emefa Edjeanu-Afenu.

She was the first woman to be promoted to the rank of Brigadier General, which is the highest position ever occupied by a female in the Armed Forces. The United Nations also appointed her as Deputy Force Commander in MINURSO in 2019.

Hers was a life of resilience and breaking barriers. She was a shining example of what women can do.

As an icon for women, she has received laurels from all over, including the
“First Lady's Award “on International Women's Day in 2019.

May your soul rest in peace Bridgadier General and my deepest condolences to everyone whose life was touched by this great woman.

The Transitional government of President Goita Assimi gives ECOWAS envoys 72hours to leave the country.

Since Col. Assimi Goita took power in a coup, the ECOWAS body has been monitoring events in Mali and has been mounting pressure on the government to speed up progress in normalising political state of the nation. Events took a twist yesterday as the 15 member ECOWAS team was asked to leave the country with immediate effect, giving them 72 hours. This is bringing another turn in the political atmosphere in Mali.

Ama Ghana. Just look at this!!! How can a vehicle have it's unique identification (number plate) covered? It's even dangerous for other road users at night due to the led lights used to cover it. This can cause accident without anybody knowing the cause.
Let's share to help the people in charge do the right thing.

Nigeria 🇳🇬
The Nigerian Army has arrested renowned Nigerian actor, Chiwetalu Agu. The main reason was his outfit that carried the Biafran flag. The Nigerian army has this to say concerning that.

"TROOPS ARREST CHIWETALU AGU WHILE SOLICITING SUPPORT FOR PROSCRIBED IPOB

Troops of Nigerian Army(NA) have arrested one Chiwetalu Agu while inciting members of the public and soliciting for support for the proscribed Indegenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Dressed in a very well known attire of the proscribed group, Chiwetalu Agu was picked up for questioning while inciting members of the public to join the proscribed group. Though he attempted puting up some resistance when troops made effort to take him into custody, he was not assaulted or subjected to brutalization.

While the NA recognizes the inalienable rights of the citizenry to freedom of movement and expression as enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is apparently a violation for any individual or group to incite the public to cause mayhem or break down of law and order. It is therefore pertinent to state that while exercising such freedoms, it must be done within the confines of the law, bearing in mind the imperative for peace, and national security.

For the avoidance of doubt and emphasis, the Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB) remains proscribed . Therefore, any individual or group seen to be projecting and advancing the cause or activities of the group is viewed as brazenly challenging the constitutionality of Federal Republic of Nigeria. More worrisome, was the fact that considering the prevailing security situation of the region, coupled with the ongoing Exercise GOLDEN DAWN , his action could be a tacit endorsement and support for the proscribed group. We have all witnessed the activities of the group take a violent dimension in recent times.

Chinwetalu Agu has clearly demonstrated uncharitable disposition to negate peace and security in the region, hence, he is taken into custody for preliminary investigation. It is important to once again place on record that the allegation that he was brutalized is false and should be disregarded accordingly.

While the NA would not allow IPOB and its sponsors to hold the region captive and allow the security situation to degenerate, it is instructive to restate that national interest supercedes any parochial consideration. Individuals or groups who fan the embers of violence are warned to desist or face the consequences of their actions. The ongoing Exercises are on course and will rid the region of all forms of criminality.

The peace loving and law abiding people of the South East are enjoined to please
go about their normal activities, as efforts are ongoing to bring perpetrators of violence to book. They are equally urged to continue to support the security agencies to restore normalcy to the region in furtherance of peace."

This morning, I was pleasantly surprised by a call from the General Secretary of the Church of Pentecost. He called to inform me that a number of Church Leaders were going to be in Parliament to present memos in support of the Bill we have laid before the House.

True to his word, they were led by the Leadership of the Church of Pentecost, The Methodist Church Ghana, The Apostolic Church Ghana, The Christian Council of Ghana, the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches amongst other Clergymen and women to present about 15 memos with over 15,000 signatories. Yes, 15,000+ signatories!

Earlier this week, the Catholic Bishops Conference, the Assemblies of God Ghana, The Ashaiman Muslim Community and the Islamic Council of Ghana had all sent in memos backing the Bill. I can only look forward to the stakeholders engagements and the subsequent debates in Parliament as over 100 memos from across the world have come in.

We have a duty to ourselves to do that which is right, true and lawful. May we discharge ourselves diligently. 🦁

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio Celebrates World Teachers’ Day, Rewards 48 Outstanding Teachers

Freetown International Conference Center, Freetown Tuesday 5 October 2021 – His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio has celebrated this year’s World Teachers’ Day at the presidential national best teacher award ceremony, organised by the country’s Teaching Service Commission.

“If a bare-footed, five-year-old village boy, who stared in awe and with great curiosity on his first day at school, today holds degrees from institutions of higher learning, can speak English and French, use technology, think critically, interact freely with world leaders, and is today President of this Republic of Sierra Leone, it is all because of the sacrifice, care, nurture, and patience of teachers,”

We are now in the surgery phase where more than 400 dear constituents identified during screening are receiving free emergency surgeries from our visiting ophthalmologists.

The inexplicable joy of the treated is equally our joy.

God bless our visiting angels and all partners. 🙏🏽

You remember these excavators? They're part of hundreds of equipment seized by government during the fight against illegal mining. More than a year on, these machines are sitting around Adenta and serving as the resting place for rodents and reptiles escaping from the sun.

Because we have a history of parking new and expensive cars for 2 decades and selling them for next to nothing, chances are that these excavators would suffer the same fate. In the meantime, those who can, are stealing the spare parts.

Please spend 5 minutes of your lunch break today praying for Ghana, that we may find a way out of the 'wilderness' on this one.

Millitary Coup fails in Sudan
A Millitary Coup has been abortive in Sudan with more that 50 mutineers arrested. These targeted the General military Command and the National TV studio before they were intercepted. But the situation is under control according to state sources.

Since the overthrow of President Omar al-Bashir in April 2019, there has been a series of strikes and civil unrest with the country being ruled by a joint civilian and military government. Also there has been a lot of pressure on the Transitional government to bring more political and social reforms.

ABOUT DR KWAME NKRUMAH

Kwame Nkrumah was born on September 21, 1909. He was an Afrikan revolutionary, statesman, and political activist from Ghana.

He led his country to independence from Britain in 1957 and was a powerful voice for African nationalism. He was overthrown by a military coup nine years later after his rule grew dictatorial. Nkrumah was born in the town of Nkroful in the southwestern corner of the British colony of the Gold Coast (now Ghana). He was an excellent student in local Catholic missionary schools, who as a teenager, became an untrained elementary school teacher in the nearby town of Half Assini.

In 1930, at Achimota College in Accra, the capital of the Gold Coast Nkrumah earned a teacher's certificate and taught at several Catholic elementary schools. In 1939 he graduated from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania (an HBCU) with B. A. degrees in economics and sociology, earned a theology degree from the Lincoln Theological Seminary in 1942, and received M. A. degrees in education and philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania in 1942 and 1943. While studying in the United States, Nkrumah was influenced by the socialist writings of German political philosopher Karl Marx, German political economist Friedrich Engels, and Russian revolutionary leader Vladimir Lenin. He formed an African student’s organization and became a popular speaker, advocating the liberation of Africa from European colonialism.

He also promoted Pan-Africanism, a movement for cooperation between all people of African descent and for the political union of an independent Africa. In 1945 he went to London, to study economics and law. That year he helped organize the fifth Pan-African Congress, in Manchester; with black American sociologist and writer W. E. B. Du Bois, future president of Kenya Jomo Kenyatta, and American actor and civil rights activist Paul Robeson. In 1946 Nkrumah left his academic studies to become secretary general of the West African National Secretariat. That same year, Nkrumah became vice president of the West African Students Union, a pro-independence organization of younger, more politically aggressive African students studying in Britain.

Nkrumah returned to the Gold Coast in 1947 when the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), a nationalist party, invited him to serve as its secretary general. He gave speeches all over the colony to rally support for the UGCC and for independence. In 1948, Nkrumah and several other UGCC leaders were arrested by British colonial authorities and briefly imprisoned. After setting up a series of colony-wide strikes in favor of independence that nearly brought the colony’s economy to a standstill, Nkrumah was again imprisoned for subversion in 1950.

However, the strikes had convinced the British authorities to move the colony toward independence. In 1951 Nkrumah, while still in prison, won the central Accra seat by a landslide. The British governor of the Gold Coast released Nkrumah from prison and appointed him leader of government business. The following year he named him Prime Minister. Reelected in 1954 and 1956, Nkrumah guided the Gold Coast to independence in 1957 under the name Ghana, after an ancient West African empire. Nkrumah built a strong central government and attempted to unify the country politically and to muster all its resources for rapid economic development.

As a proponent of Pan-Africanism, he sought the liberation of the entire continent from colonial rule, offered generous assistance to other African nationalists, and initially pursued a policy of nonalignment with the United States and the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). His goal was never realized, but his efforts helped bring about the Organization of African Unity, which promotes peace and cooperation between African nations. In 1960 Ghana became a republic and Nkrumah was elected president. Between 1961 and 1966 Nkrumah put together an ambitious and very expensive hydroelectric project on the Volta River that though highly successful, was laced with economic mismanagement along with several other developmental schemes over the period.

Nkrumah did not hesitate to use strong-arm methods in implementing his domestic programs. He remained popular with the masses, yet his tactics made enemies among civil servants, judges, intellectuals, and army officers. While Nkrumah was visiting China in 1966, his government was overthrown in an army coup. Nkrumah lived in exile in Guinea, where Guinean president Sékou Touré appointed him honorary co-president of Guinea. He died on 27 April 1972 in Romania while receiving treatment for throat cancer.

Nkrumah was buried in a tomb in the village of his birth, Nkroful, Ghana. While the tomb remains in Nkroful, his remains were transferred to a large national memorial tomb and park in Accra.

Over his lifetime, Nkrumah was awarded honorary doctorates by Lincoln University, Moscow State University; Cairo University in Cairo, Egypt; Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland; Humboldt University in East Berlin; and many other universities.

In 2000, he was voted Africa's man of the millennium by listeners to the BBC World Service, being described by the BBC as a "Hero of Independence," and an "International symbol of freedom as the leader of the first black African country to shake off the chains of colonial rule."

In September 2009, President John Atta Mills declared 21 September (the 100th anniversary of Kwame Nkrumah's birth) to be Founder's Day, a statutory holiday in Ghana to celebrate the legacy of Kwame Nkrumah.

Guinea 🇬🇳
President Alpha Conde still to believe Guinea is off his grip.

The incarcerated overthrown President of Guinea, Alpha conde is yet to to come to terms with the fact that he has been overthrown and most shockingly by those he relied on. He is not yet understanding how this happened. The ECOWAS fact-finding mission to Guinea noted that the ousted President is not yet believing it has happened. "I am still the President, the people's elected president", he has constantly maintained. He has reportedly refused to sign his own resignation and to eat carelessly unless food from his cook. Colonel Mamady Doumbouya the interim leader is still holding Conde in custody maintaining that the present Constitutions that brought Conde to his third term was unconstitutional.

However, ECOWAS Presidents are conveying to Accra Ghana today and tomorrow for an extra ordinary summit on the situation in Guinea. Due to suspension, Guinea and Mali are not going to be part.

Thinking about what the President of Guinea Bissau HE President Umaro Sissoco Embalo said during the Virtual conference on the crisis in Mali on the 20th of August 2021

“ECOWAS is a weak and hypocritical organization without real power and at the limit it is a political gadget intended to make ullision. As long as the ECOWAS is unable to prevent heads of state from making belligerent constitutional changes to drag on in power, no one will be able to prevent the military from entering the political debate. If the cedeao does not manage to have the necessary leadership to prevent these members from tampering with the fundamental laws of their country, finally to ensure an eternal presidency to the detriment of the lives of their compatriots and of democracy, no one will be able to validly condemn soldiers who carry out a coup d'état, they say, to establish democracy and the rule of law. If we cannot condemn constitutional violators, neither can we condemn those who commit themselves to constitutional violators ... ”
