Black Thought AKA Tarik

Black Thought turns 52 today. Happy Birthday to one of the greatest, this man is older than Hip-Hop and still crushes the mic more than 99.9% of rappers so I don't want to hear any conversations about age being a factor in this culture anymore. Now, how about we discuss his best work, what's your favorite from the legend!?

African Music- The Power Belongs to Us.

Over the years, African music has struggled to compete with other genres on Worldwide Music Charts. The usual Suspects nine times nominated Grammy artist Youssour N'Dour, Salif Keita,, Angelique Kidjo etc. kept the continent's flag high for a very long time. But for how long could these dynamic musicians be 'burdened' with carrying the huge cross of the African continent?

From receiving backstage awards that were not even televised, African artistes have now achieved global superstardom thanks to Social Media and the determination to strive for global excellence.
Beginning in the last decade where Sarkodie, Fuse O.D.G kept the world humming and dancing to Azonto music to this new era of Afrobeats, Afrofusion spearheaded by the likes of Davido,Wizkid, Burnaboy, King Promise,, Mr. Eazi, Asake etc, the world cant get enough of the African vibe.
Dudes like Burnaboy, Sarkodie, Wizkid, Davido are filling theatres and Stadiums with sold out concerts. African Artistes are now headlining Major concerts across the globe clocking six to seven figure deals. Young ones like Black Sheriff, Omar Lay are taking Youtube, Tiktok and streaming services on with their huge streaming and downloading numbers.

Stonebwoy is arguably, the workaholic of the Afro-Reggae and Dancehall genre. He has been featured on almost everyone who matters in the reggae genre music and is busily spreading the genre's message.

The contribution of the Amapiano genre to the African music culture cannot be downplayed. The genre is a hybrid of deep house, jazz, lounge and African percussive basslines. These upbeat joints have attracted foreign artistes including Chris Brown who featured on Lojay's ''monalisa.
We can attest from the above that with a little push African music will make it far. All we need are good investors who will be willing to put their all in promoting the African brand. Secondly, music consumers should stream from approved streaming sites and avoid illegal or pirate sites. This will go a long way of providing 'bread' for the artistes. We can uplift our musicians by attending concerts and purchasing tickets whilst Event organizers should endeavor to pay reasonable fees to the musicians and their entourages.
THE POWER BELONGS TO US. We can do it.
