The Pregnant Side Chick

Episode 3

“We can go into the house now. My wife has gone to work. You know she is a teacher; she goes to work around 6am so as not to be late to school. Let’s go in so that I will prepare and go to the office.” Ekene tells Juliet as they woke up from the car where they slept the previous night. They did not sleep very well and Juliet was not happy. She was already thinking of going back to her house instead of running up and down and hiding out fear in Ekene’s house.

“This kind of life is not good for a pregnant woman. I don’t think I will continue to live like this. Just look at me sleeping in a car. It is abnormal. I mean, I have a room of my own. Why should I be sleeping outside? I don’t think I’m going into your house again.” Juliet said with tears in her eyes. She was anxious and scared for her life because of how Ekene’s wife reacted to her pregnancy.

“Please, Juliet don’t take it that way. I’m with you all the way. I have taken responsibility of the child and I’m going to stand by you no matter what happens. Come rain come shine, I will stay with you until that baby is born and I will carry him in my hands.” Ekene said.

“Come rain come shine? Is it when your wife kills both of us that you will know there is fire on the mountain? Why hasn’t she reacted in anger since she heard that you got me pregnant? Her attitude shows that she is planning evil and I won’t be here when she will execute the evil. I will be far gone.” Juliet said. She went into the house and started packing her bags to leave but Ekene followed her and started begging her not to go.

“Please, you don’t have to do this. Please don’t go. My wife cannot harm you, I’m sure of that.” Ekene pleaded.

“Do you sincerely believe what you are telling me? Do you listen to yourself at all? Are you not scared of her? I mean, see how she humiliated us yesterday in the presence of friends. I’m very sure you are scared. And please don’t tell me that she cannot do anything.” Juliet said. She started dragging her bag out of the house but Ekene stood at the door and refused to allow her leave.

“Please, don’t go. Stay back! I promise to talk to my wife. I will talk to her when she comes back.” Ekene said with an agitated voice. He knew he was not making sense. But he had to say something to stop Juliet from going.

“What are you going to tell her? Are you going to tell her to stop being silent and be angry that you got me pregnant? Answer me! Are you going to tell her to slap me, kick me or chase me out? Or are you going to send her packing? Because that is what you should have done if you wanted peace in the house.” Juliet asked Ekene multiple questions with a loud voice. He did not know how to answer her.

“Calm down Juliet. Give me until today’s evening to handle this. Go back inside and catch some sleep. We both had a rough night! I will handle this. Give me time to figure out what to do. Please honey!” Ekene pleaded. He started touching Juliet in a loving way and then gently, he took her back into the living room. It has been long Ekene touched Juliet, so it was not long before she too started touching him. Soon, they fell on one of the soft cushions in the living room and they took off their clothes and made love.

As soon as he was done, Ekene broke off, got prepared and went to work. Juliet slept off on the sofa and did not wake up until around 3pm when Sophia returned from work.

“Ah! Ah! Juliet, how are you? You must be very weak because of your condition. Have you eaten?” Sophia asked Juliet. Juliet was trying to behave like someone who was still asleep but she was actually scared of Sophia.

“Yes I ate some rice.” Juliet lied. There is no cooked rice in the house and Sophia knew she was lying. She was just trying to avoid taking anything from Sophia.

“Look here, I bought you some ice cream, juice and apple. Eat the apple first then download it with this juice, and then eat the ice cream. I have never being pregnant but I have heard that pregnant women like to eat ‘cham cham.’ Sophia said with laughter. The whole time she was talking, Juliet was shaking. She took the package from Sophia and placed it violently beside her.

“Why are you afraid of me?” Sophia asked.

“Tell me Sophia. What are you up to? You think I don’t know you want to poison me and my unborn baby? You barren witch! Why are you not angry that I slept with your husband? What kind of woman throws a party to welcome a side chick into her house? What are you up to? I know your plan. You want to poison me and my unborn baby. Take your apple and juice, I have dropped it here for you. Rubbish witch!” Juliet said.

“My dear, no need for shouting. Calm down and enjoy your life OK. You are blessed to be pregnant. Many people have prayed for years to have this baby that God gave you on a platter of gold. You should be happy and carry the baby in peace.” Sophia said. She did not directly respond to the accusations labeled against her by Juliet. Juliet decided to take it to another level to see what Sophia would do. She raised her right hand and landed a heavy slap on Sophia’s face just to provoke her beyond endurance. But Sophia refused to retaliate. The slap was very painful but she concealed the pain.

“My dear you will injure yourself. Remember you are pregnant. Don’t worry, my mother told me that pregnant women usually have hormonal imbalance that makes them to have mood swings. I’m sure you are going through mood swings. So, I totally understand why you slapped me. Relax! By nine months’ time, we will happily carry our baby. Sincerely, I’m happy that you are pregnant for my husband.” Sophia said with a broad smile on her face. Juliet could not believe what she was seeing and hearing. Sophia left the scene as if nothing had happened and went into the kitchen and started cooking.

Juliet quickly picked up her phone and ordered an Uber ride. The Uber guy arrived in less than 10 minutes and Juliet picked up her bag and jumped into the car, never to return again.

When Ekene returned from work, he did not see Juliet.

“Where is Juliet?” Ekene asked his wife Sophia.

“I left her here when I went to kitchen to cook.” Sophia said in a worried tone. Ekene rushed out of the house and Sophia followed him.

“Let us go and look for her together.” Sophia said as she rushed after her husband.

“Stay back! I said stay back!” Ekene shouted. At this point, he was really upset by the show of love being put up by Sophia. He was losing his mind. He drove out of the compound with aggression and went in search of Juliet.

The Pregnant Side Chick

Episode 2

“Are you the one who is pregnant for my husband?” Sophia asks. Her best friend Juliet was stepping out of the car with Ekene standing directly at her back. Her pregnancy has become big. Her belongings were in the boot of the car, but even before she could start walking into the house, Sophia already was there to welcome them.

“Yes! I’m the one. Are you surprised?” Juliet asked with strong frown on her face. She came prepared for a fight. She thought Sophia would stand in her way and try to stop her from entering the house. She thought Sophia would be heartbroken to find out that she has been the side chick sleeping with her husband. But she was shocked when things turned out differently.

“Of course not! Why would I be surprised? On the contrary, I’m not angry and I’m not shocked. In fact, I’m grateful that you are the one. Instead of my husband to get a harlot pregnant, it is better he impregnates my best friend. I mean, I have known you since childhood and we have been friends. The devil you know is better than the angel you don’t know. I will be eternally grateful to you for carrying my husband’s baby. I have seen that he is happy about the pregnancy. I’m here at your service to help in any way I can during the nine months you will carry the child. Juliet, you are highly welcome to our house.” Sophia declared with a broad smile on her face.

Ekene’s shock went deeper. He wondered what kind of a woman his wife turned into in the past few days after she learned of the pregnancy.

“What kind of woman finds out that her husband got her friend pregnant and then welcomes him and the pregnant woman with open arms? What kind of woman is this?” Ekene asks himself. It was like he never knew his wife, yet, they had been married for ten years. She has revealed a new character that shocked him.

“Let’s get your things into the house.” Sophia said as she started unloading the car and taking Juliet’s load into the house. Out of shame, Ekene joined her to move the loads into the house. Juliet carried nothing as she merely walked in and sank into one of the cushions in the living room. It was around 5pm in the evening.

When Ekene brought in the last bag, he was greeted with loud cheers and laughter that filled the living room. He wondered what was going on. He moved closer towards the dining area and saw that tables and chairs were set for a small party. He wondered what was going on because he did not ask anyone to come for any party or celebration.

“What’s going on here?” Ekene asked his wife who was coming out from the kitchen with a large cooler of jollof rice. She placed the jollof rice on the dining table and then tore open bags of take away plates and started dishing jollof rice for the guests.

“Ah Ah! My dear husband. Don’t tell me you want to bring your baby mama home in a silent way. It is not done that way and that was not how we were brought up. In Igbo culture, when you are bringing a new wife home, you must let your neighbours know and you must make some joyful noise. That is why I invited our friends and well-wishers and even our church members to celebrate the new addition with us.” Sophia said as she continued to dish jollof rice and handing the take away plates to waiting guests.

“Ekene, your wife is right. You cannot just bring a second woman home without letting your friends and family know. We have come to rejoice with you. Congratulations my man. You will soon be a father.” Kunle said as he drew closer to hug Ekene and pat his back. He was holding a cup of wine which he quickly gulped and placed the empty glass on the table.

Ekene stood hands akimbo, not knowing what to do. He did not respond positively to Kunle’s hug. Juliet had left the living room and joined Ekene where he was standing. Both of them were stupefied and confused, not knowing how to approach the party. Ekene felt ashamed and so was Juliet.

“Please ladies and gentlemen hold on! May I have your attention please?” Sophia said to call the attention of the party guests. Everyone stopped eating and drinking and looked in Sophia’s direction.

“You all are my friends and some of you are friends with my husband. You are welcome to this small get together and thanks for honouring my invitation at such short notice. You all know I and my husband have been struggling to have children since we got married ten years ago, but we have not succeeded. I have not been able to get pregnant no matter how we tried.

“I have visited many clinics and even gone to see native doctors but nothing has worked positively so far. But thanks goodness, my friend here, Juliet is now pregnant for my husband. Our problem of childlessness has been solved. I want to specially thank Juliet for getting pregnant and agreeing to keep the baby. And I also thank her for agreeing to come live with us. I shall be eternally grateful to her. To my wonderful husband, I most sincerely appreciate your patience these past years. I do not blame you for anything and I’m not angry that you got my best friend pregnant. Be rest assured of my love. When this baby is born, I shall nurture her like my own. Everyone cheers to the new addition to my family.” Sophia said and everyone chorused cheers. She went back and continued to dish jollof rice.

Ekene felt very stupid. He never knew his wife Sophia ambushed him with a surprise party which in his estimation was purely meant to embarrass him in the presence of his friends and neighbours. Before the party, no one knew he got another woman pregnant, but after then, it became the talk of the town that he impregnated his wife’s friend.

He was so embarrassed that he could not lift his feet where he was standing. He felt ashamed and his side chick, Juliet was also ashamed. She did not understand why a wife will throw a party to welcome a side chick who got pregnant for her husband.

Shortly, Sophia dished two plates of jollof rice and served Ekene and Juliet. She added two big chunks of meat and two bottles of malt. For the first time in many days, Ekene ate his wife’s food. He ate it because she dished it from the same cooler she was dishing for others at the party. He knew no way she could poison the entire cooler and not kill everyone. Yet, he and Juliet still ate with fear.

When everyone was gone, Ekene and Juliet were lying down in the living room with a new mattress he had bought the day before. But Sophia came and woke them.

“I have vacated the bedroom for you people. I have prepared the guest room. Henceforth, I will be staying there. Please Juliet, don’t reject this. I’m not angry in anyway. I just want the best for you and my husband, and also the baby. The two of you should go to the bedroom and sleep comfortably.” Sophia said as she went away.

At that point, Ekene and Juliet looked at each other with more fear in their eyes.

“What kind of woman vacates her matrimonial bed for a side chick who is pregnant for her husband?” Juliet asks Ekene.

“I don’t know what she is up to. But, I’m not sleeping in this house. I’m now very scared. I’m convince she is up to evil. Please follow me right now.” Ekene said. They went outside and slept in the car.

Episode 1

“I got another woman pregnant.” Ekene said to his wife Sophia. Before he got home that night, he had made up his mind to say the whole truth instead of trying to hide it. He knew his wife would not like to hear it but he believed it was the best thing to do.

“It was a mistake, but I will tell the girl to keep the baby. A scan shows she is expecting a baby boy. I have always wanted a baby and you know we have not been able to have one since we got married ten years ago. I have been patient enough and I decided to try outside. Please, I still love you. Forgive me Sophia.” Ekene said. His voice had a measured tone, dropping each word with care.

“Okay. No problems. I’m happy for you. Congratulations!” Sophia said as she hugged her husband and left the living room to the bedroom where she slept off peacefully.

Ekene wondered why his wife did not get angry with him concerning the pregnancy. That night, he could not sleep beside his wife. He slept on the couch in the living room because he was unable to understand her attitude. Ekene was scared that his wife might use a kitchen knife to stab him to death if he sleeps on the same bed with her.

“What kind of woman hears that her husband got another lady pregnant and keeps quiet about the whole thing? Why didn’t she get angry? Why didn’t she ask any questions concerning the girl? Why didn’t she react in an angry way? This is very scary and I’m terrified.” Ekene said to himself while he lay on the sofa and stared on the white ceiling. From that night, Ekene made up his mind to keep a safe distance from his wife Sophia until he is convinced that she won’t harm him.

Sophia woke her husband up the next morning with breakfast which she prepared with much more love than she used to do in the past.

“Honey good morning. Hurry up and eat so that you will go to work.” Sophia said as she tapped her husband’s shoulder.

“And why did you sleep here last night? I was expecting you in bed. I’m sorry, I slept off and I didn’t realize you were not beside me. I missed you so much in bed my darling.” Sophia said. She left the living room. She was already dressed up for work as she is a teacher. When she went out, he husband went straight to the toilet and flushed the food she served him.

“How can I tell my wife that I got another woman pregnant and she never said a word of anger or questioned me about the identity of the lady? And to crown it all, she woke me up with delicious breakfast. I have reasons to believe that my life is in danger.” Ekene said. He got ready and went to work. It was when he got to work that he bought some food at the canteen and ate.

On his way back, he also bought some food and hid in his bag. He ate it in his car before he started to drive the final lap of the journey home. He already made up his mind not to eat his wife’s food. He had reasons to believe that she would poison him to death with rat poison.

“Welcome home darling! I have been patiently waiting for your return. What kept you so long? You must have had a hectic day at work today. Please, I boiled water for you to take your bathe. And when you are done, food is waiting for you at the dining. I have prepared your favourite egusi soup.” Sophia said as she collected her husband’s bag and helped him pull off his suit and then led him into the bathe room where he took his bathe.

As he showered, Ekene continued to think of how he would tell his wife that he cannot eat her food. That was practically impossible because she was waiting for him at the dining table. There was little he could do to avoid the egusi soup. In his mind, he was very convinced that the food was poisoned.

“Why is she treating me with so much love after I told her that I got another woman pregnant? This is very suspicious and not what I expected. I will find a way. I won’t eat that food. I don’t want to die yet.” Ekene said.

When he came out from the bathroom, he snatched his phone from the table and rushed out of the house.
“I have been asked to come back at work. I will be back soon. There is an emergency at the hospital and I must go and attend to it.” Ekene said. He is a medical doctor, so his wife must understand that emergencies like this happen from time to time. So, she didn’t say a word when he rushed out but merely looked with her eyes wide up.

Ekene did not return home that night. In the morning, he walked into the house looking tired and worn out. He passed the night in his car.

“Good morning honey. You are welcome. You must be very tired and you need rest.” Sophia said as she opened the door for her husband. It was a Saturday, so she would stay at home. Ekene went straight to bed and slept off.

In the evening, Sosphia served her husband another plate of the same egusi soup, but he started acting up again, trying to rush out of the house but Sophia blocked the door.

“I noticed you have not been yourself recently. What is the matter?” She asked Ekene.

“It’s nothing. I’m facing pressure at work. I just need some time to fix things.” Ekene lied.

“Stop it. You are lying to me. You are a medical consultant with fifteen years of experience. There is no pressure at work that would make you to reject your wife’s food. Or you think I didn’t know you flushed the food I served you the other day? You have been deliberately avoiding my food. You think I will poison you? Or, is it about the girl you got pregnant? My dear! I have no single problem with that. I’m absolutely happy about it. I’m happy we are having a child. In fact, I want you to bring her to start living with us. That would be very sweet!” Sophia said.

Ekene was shocked even more by his wife’s suggestion. He had expected her to get angry and move out of the house thereby finally giving him the chance to marry the girl he got pregnant. But Sophia’s reaction to the whole thing took him by surprise.

He was even more scared at the moment.

“May be she wants to poison the two of us together and kill the unborn baby.” Ekene said in his heart.

“Honey! Did you hear what I said?” Sophia asked, tapping her husband back to reality.

“Yes I heard you. I will think about it.” Ekene said. The next day, he informed Juliet that he would want her to come live in his house.

“Has your wife moved out? I don’t want to share you with anyone.” Juliet asked.

“Surprisingly, my wife has accepted for all of us to live together. In fact, the amount of love she has shown me since I broke the news to her has surprised me. I have not eaten her food since then. I don’t want to die of rat poison. Please, listen to me. Be very careful when you move into my house. Don’t eat anything she gives you and stay strictly on your lane until I find another apartment for us.” Ekene said.

The next day, Juliet moved into Ekene’s house.

The School Fees

A story by Frank The Writer Follow him for interesting stories.

Judith looks forward to every school term. She likes to go to her children’s school to pay their school fees. That is when she gets the opportunity to inflate the school fees and secretly collect money from her husband Dera. Dera himself does not know much about his children’s education. He has only visited the school once and that was the day his first son started school five years ago. Since then, he has never set his feet in the school. Dera does not even know the classes of his children. He does not know their teachers or the kind of friends they keep. Dera also does not know the actual school fees but only pays whatever his wife tells him. Judith always complains of her husband’s carelessness about the children’s education but secretly, she wants the situation to continue that way so that she will continue to get the money she is getting from inflating school fees.

“How much is the school fees for this term?” Dera asked his wife when he returned from his trip abroad. Dera is well-to-do and his children attend a very expensive school.

“Each of them is N1.5 million. But there is an extra N2 million for school bus for the whole year.” Judith tells her husband.

“But why is it that all of them are paying the same thing? Even the ones in the lower classes? Their school fees are not supposed to be the same thing. At least, the smaller children should be less than the ones that have grown up.” Dera said, but his wife knows it is the usual grumbling of men before they bring out money for anything. She knew that her husband could pay such an amount, so she did not say a word as he was complaining. Within a few minutes, Dera brought out his phone and transferred N8 million to his wife’s account. The money would cover the school fees of his four children and their school bus. His wife added N500k each to the school fees and N2 million for the school bus was a lie. There is no such thing.

With what she did, Judith pocketed N4 million out of the N8 million after paying the fees. The children resumed studies and Dera as usual did not bother to check the school to know how the children were fairing. Everything fell on his wife who enjoyed taking care of the children and attending to their school needs. Judith is actually a very dedicated woman who loves her children and she takes pleasure in washing their uniforms, ironing them, preparing them for school, and helping them with their homework. What she does at home is a full-time job and only a blind person would fail to appreciate it.

The school where her children attended had just employed a new cashier who did not know Judith and how to protect her secret. Usually, the former cashier would send the school fees receipt only to Judith and not her husband Dera. The school has both the email and phone contacts of Judith and Dera. Also, the school fees receipt is supposed to carry the exact amount that her husband transferred to her which is N8 million. She was supposed to show that to her husband as evidence that the fees had been paid.

Judith did not know that the cashier had been changed, so the new one sent the receipt to her and a copy was forwarded to Dera. To make matters worse, the receipt carries N4 million instead of N8 million.

“This man has killed me. Why did he not ask me before doing this? Why did the school not announce that they had sacked the former cashier? I’m in trouble! How am I going to explain this to my husband?” Judith asked herself when she went to see the cashier and he said he forwarded the receipt to her husband too. She stepped out of the school compound and went home to face her husband’s music.

When she got home, Dera was already sitting in the living room waiting for her. From the look of things, he has seen the school fees receipt.

“How much is the children’s school fees?” Dera asked his wife as soon as she stepped into the building. Judith had made up her mind not to be afraid but to answer any questions relating to fees with courage.

“The school fee is N4 million,” Judith answered without stuttering.

“So why did you tell me it is N8 million? So you have been stealing from me all these years? How could you do that to me? And I used to brag to my friends that my wife is an honest woman.” Dera said.

“Don’t you dare call me a thief. I’m not a thief. When last did you visit your children’s school? When last did you check to see if they did their homework was done? When last did you check to see if their school uniform is clean? When last did you check to see if they had new school uniforms? When last did you check to see if they had all the things they needed in school? When last did you ask me how I managed to take care of all of them without your help? When last did you check to see if they had clothes or shoes? When last did you check to see if their school bags are bad? Do you think caring for children ends by just paying their school fees? There are other things you don’t see and you don’t give me extra money to buy those things. I’m not justifying the fact that I inflated school fees. But most of the remaining money, I still used it on your children. And maybe I bought one or two Brazilian wigs for myself, but I spent the money on your children.” Judith said to her husband.

Dera laughed out loud.

“My dear wife, I actually know you have been inflating school fees, but I just gave it to you because I know there are other things you need to take care of. I know about your secret games, but I kept pretending not to know because you deserve much more than that. You have played a big role in raising the children and you even deserve to be paid a monthly salary. So, I’m not complaining! Just promise me you will keep doing your duty as a mother and I will not interfere with your inflation games.” Dera said with a smile on his face.

“I promise,” Judith said as they hugged each other.
