My take on Yvonne Nelson’s book “I AM NOT YVONNE NELSON”
As controversial as the book title is, so is the engagement and excitement on the airwaves, which have been kept buzzing over the days with excerpts of the thought-provoking memoir “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson”.
In the mesmerizing and fiery memoir, readers have been kept busy, engaged and taken on an intimate journey of self-discovery alongside the young protagonist, who can arguably be said to be in a search of long overdue healing from trauma and pain.
Like every other thing under the sun and every other subject of discussion, there are always two sides of cheer: one in support of the writer and the other against her actions.
Yet, irrespective of which side of the argument one decides to belong to, Yvonne has definitely challenged the status quo and allowed people question the effects of their past actions and how it affects others.
Interesting in this whole development, is also the way her loved ones have chosen to show their solidarity and support, in a bid to secure the sustainability and success of her work. From AMG Medikal’s 100,000 Ghana cedis and huge financial support from other celebrities, to the supportive statements made in its recommendation by the likes of John Dumelo, Joselyn Dumas among others who deemed it fit and necessary for one to tell his or her own stories before it was told by others, the book has definitely received a lot of attention and hype over the weekend, launched at a plush event and luxurious location.
Let’s flip the coin now, shall we? For a script and narrative where the hero and lead actor was sacrificed on a cross to pay for the offences of others, and also in a quest to offer salvation to the potentially unredeemable bunch of humans ever to exist.
Centuries after this price was paid and redemption was offered, the Holy Spirit was given to us, as an evidential gift in Acts 2.
Prophets were given the mandate from ages past to help preserve, protect and guide the people from landing themselves in avoidable situations, likely to cause them pain and distress, immediately or later in the future.
In these modern days, the Lord has graced Prophets like myself to help the church know the paternity of children without a physical DNA conducted but with the ability to still provide believable and circumstantial evidence.
What of the days where I have been able to warn ladies against engaging in disastrous relationships that could lead to unwanted pregnancies and invariably life-threatening abortions. Many are the moments where I have helped children forgive parents who deeply hurt them and supported these children on their forgiveness and healing journeys.
Despite the spiritual, emotional and physical therapies and support the church, particularly Men and Women of God directly offer, to heal traumatized members of the kingdom family, it is found ridiculous for an individual to be heard directly supporting the church with GHC 100,000 or more. We are quick to make the argument of salvation being free but forget that running ministry comes at a cost.
Often times, church is deemed as a scam and a place where people are defrauded. Yet, many of us still exist, genuinely called and used by God for performing miracles and speaking His mind to His people. We are quick to condemn a move where the faithful of the church are called to sow seeds to run a ministry and further propagate the story of true salvation, healing, peace and wealth which is known to liberate families and generations, but would offer loud claps and detailed statements of encouragements when personal stories, which liberate an individual or one family at best is told. We would go as far as donating huge sums of money, enjoy the features in print, electronic and social media, all for the fame and glam.
What of the gospel? I dare say the church can be a solution place to fix most of the ongoing canker and menace.
If only we’ll listen, the Lord is still speaking and offering solutions to the problems, pains, frustrations and hurts of His people.
(Amos 3:7).
