CELEBRATING A MENTOR

Mentor Chairman Eng. CYRIL AJAGU

Cyril is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers. He has worked over 20 years in the oil and gas industry with organisations such as Mobil Nigeria, Schlumberger and Shell Petroleum & Development Company. He is versatile, and extremely connected with numerous business interests.

Cyril is at the forefront of many companies within and outside Nigeria, many of which he founded. They include; African Alliance Insurance Plc, Ghana Life Insurance Co. Ltd, Conau Holdings U.K, U.S.A and Nigeria, Axiom Air Limited, Universal Insurance Plc, Universal Hotels Ltd and Frenchies Foods Limited.

He has significant interest in Pension Alliance Ltd (PAL), the 2nd largest pension fund in Nigeria.

Engr. Ajagu was the founder, financier and chairman of Cymon Saving & Loans Ltd, a primary mortgage institution established in 1989; founder, financier and chairman of Egosal Microfinance Bank Ltd, which was established in 1991 as a microfinance bank. He also established Pricewyse Bureau de Change Ltd in 2007, a money market operator trading foreign currency.

His exceptional performance has earned him various awards such as;
Honorary Doctorate in Business Management and Corporate Governance, European American University in year 2017

Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary club International,

Fellow of the Institute of Entrepreneurial Studies (Nig.),

Fellow of Chartered Institute of Cost Management, Nigeria,

Award of Excellence by the West African Insurance Institute, Banjul Gambia

Excellence award by The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA).

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Africa Leadership award in 2008.

Men of Achievement Award for outstanding achievement in business, 2008 and 2009

Press Gallery Award for insurance company C.E.O of the year, 2010.

Global leader of integrity merit award 2012 by Integrity International Magazine, Accra, Ghana

Engr. Ajagu is a 3rd term member of Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) Advancement Board and a member of FUTA Trust Fund. He has over 25 years of experience as an entrepreneur. Mr Ajagu holds a B.Tech in Mining Engineering as well as an MBA in Innovation Technology.

Our mentor for this year is a family man, a loving husband to Sylvia, a father to many, both biological and adopted, and mentor to many.

Alexander Nwuba is currently the Board Chairman for Nelike Capital Partners Limited, He came to this role from the role of CEO, Africa for New York boutique investment bank Palewater Advisory. Prior this role in Palewater, Alex was Vice President of Overseas Private Equity Ltd, a multibillion dollar private equity group based in the Middle East where he was in charge of the Group’s Africa business, portfolio companies and consultancy to national governments.

Mr. Nwuba was the Managing Director of the Smile Air Group, an Overseas portfolio company which aggregates national/domestic airlines across Africa, with common operational services such as OCC, crew recruitment and training, common engineering services and other shared services.

Alex was formerly the Deputy Managing Director of West African Airlines, (Westair Benin), the flag carrier of the Republic of Benin where he was in charge of strategy and marketing.
He was a Director and Aviation Consultant at Skywest Airline Management Limited, an aviation consulting company and the Managing Director, Chief Executive Officer (Accountable Manager) of Associated Airlines, a Nigerian airline.

In the Financial Services industry, he was an Executive Consultant to Futureview Financial Services Limited, an investment banking firm and one of the largest securities trading companies in Nigeria. He is the founder of SmartPay a company which pioneered e-payments and e-commerce in Nigeria and he participated in the writing of the Nigerian Electronic Banking Regulations as well as authored an essay in the book on the Nigerian Financial System, “The future of Money”. Prior to this role, he was a Marketing Executive with Retriever Payment Systems USA, the 6th largest US payment processor; Managing Director/CEO, Fatus Finance and Investment Company an early financial services pioneer in Nigeria and as Regional Vice President – Merchant Bankers Group, New York and Lausanne, Switzerland.

He served on the Global Board of The ATM Industry Association Worldwide (ATMIA) as well as was a Member of the Board of ATMIA (Africa). He was a member of the founding Board of Trustees of the Smartcard Society of Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Economic Development Forum (NEDF), Geneva, Switzerland. Mr. Nwuba was a Co-Chair of the West African Payment Integration Committee WAMZ/WAMU (Technical sub –committee).

In telecommunications and the internet, Mr Nwuba is the current promoter of K3 Wireless Nigeria which plans to offer the fastest internet service in Nigeria. He is a Director at 3i Technology and was formerly the CEO Nigeria for India’s Dhanush Infotech, Bharti’s technology partner now Airtel. He was the CEO of Spain’s Quantis Africa with the aim of delivering satellite technology to reach consumers faster than wire-line technology and provide internet in rural and other difficult pe*******on areas for terrestrial communications. Mr. Nwuba was Sales Director for GoIP, a New York publicly traded company offering a range of mobile media services, solutions and tools for brand and content providers, agencies, online portals, entertainment and media companies to create mobile marketing campaigns and applications to engage consumers and drive sales and loyalty.

Mr, Nwuba designed and implemented cards for the Lagos State Government Electronic Tax card (etcc) used for enhanced revenue collection in Lagos State. His company was shortlisted to implement the second phase of the Nigerian National Identity Card.

He is a philanthropist and a mentor to many, a husband and father of 4. He likes nature; birds, animals and waterbodies.

The Africa Media Advertising Sales Summit (AFRIMASS NETWORK) has partnered with GUINNESS GHANA, MultiChoice Ghana, Genet Service Ltd to bring to Media enterprise owners, Media business executives, Journalist, Media Ad Agencies, Media sales executives and seasoned industry professionals the 3rd edition of the Africa Media Ad Sales Summit (AFRIMASS).

This year’s edition of the AFRIMASS 2021 themed “The Sustainability of Media Revenue Post COVID-19” will focus on challenges as well as the available opportunities for media outlets post the pandemic.

Founder and Managing partner of AFRIMASS NETWORK, Raymond Smith commenting on the impact of the Covid19 pandemic on the media and in the lead to the event, noted the media industry has had its fair share of the pandemic’s ravaging effects on businesses, households and the economy at large.

According to him, advertising budgets of most media houses were significantly affected with most of them cutting down on the expected revenue to be generated from advertisements on their respective platforms.

“In this year’s Summit, we will take a look at what has been the extent of the effect of the pandemic on media organizations in Ghana and how media organizations can take advantage of the opportunities of revenue generation the pandemic has indirectly presented,” he said.

“A report by PwC on global entertainment and media outlook indicates that the industry’s longer-term outlook remains robust, which speaks to the agility and dynamism of the media ecosystem. And although the shock waves from the 2020 will reverberate into the foreseeable future, the report forecasts that the industry’s fundamental growth trajectory is still strong,” he added.

Objectives of this year’s Summit include;
• Bringing together media and advertising professionals to share knowledge on the best ways of sustaining the media business through resilient revenue strategies.
• Creating a networking platform beyond the summit to foster a common industry thinking and interest towards a sustainable media business.
• To influence policy makers, corporate firms and regulators on the need to support the media with tax breaks and other incentives.
