The family of Dorcas Korkor Tetteh, a popular chopbar operator at Anloga, has turned to the Nogokpo thunder god to uncover her killers. This comes a month after her brutal murder, with no significant leads from the police investigation. The family sought and received permission from Togbi Zewu IV, chief of Anloga, to beat the gong-gong and announce their decision to seek spiritual help.

Nogokpo, located in the Volta Region, is home to the powerful Zakadza deity, known for seeking justice for heinous crimes. According to shrine priest Dogbatsey Tengey, rituals will be performed, followed by announcements inviting perpetrators to confess. Failure to confess may invoke the god’s wrath, which can severely affect the criminal and their family.

Dorcas was killed on December 28, 2024, in what appeared to be a robbery gone wrong. Neighbors reported her windows and doors open, with metal bars removed. She was found lifeless with bruises all over her body. Preliminary investigations by the police yielded no arrests, prompting the family to take this spiritual step.

Traditional authorities, including the Awadada of Anlo, Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, have endorsed the family’s move as complementary to police efforts. Residents have been urged to cooperate fully with both the shrine emissaries and the police to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.

President John Dramani Mahama is under increasing pressure to launch a comprehensive investigation into the alleged mismanagement of $1.08 billion generated from manganese exports. The controversy, which implicates the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, has sparked public outcry over transparency and resource governance.

Reports indicate that between 2015 and 2020, revenue from manganese exports failed to be properly accounted for, raising concerns about corruption and mismanagement. Civil society organizations and political commentators have called on the President to demonstrate his commitment to tackling corruption by ensuring a full probe into the matter.

The alleged mismanagement of such substantial funds is viewed as a setback for Ghana’s efforts to maximize revenue from its natural resources. Stakeholders argue that these funds could have been used to improve critical sectors such as health, education, and infrastructure. Many believe that a thorough investigation and subsequent punitive measures will restore public confidence in government institutions.

President Mahama has been urged to prioritize accountability and ensure that any individuals or institutions found culpable are held responsible. Calls for an independent forensic audit are growing, with demands for enhanced measures to prevent future exploitation of the country’s mineral wealth. The scandal serves as a reminder of the urgent need for effective management of Ghana’s natural resources.

22/01/2025

The Supreme Court has ruled in favor of Lakeside Estate Limited as the rightful owner of 2,900 acres of land at Katamanso in the Greater Accra Region. The unanimous decision, delivered by a five-member panel led by Chief Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, ends years of legal disputes over the land.

The court found that Lakeside Estate had legally registered its title to the land as far back as 1974. This predates Tassah Tapha Tassah's acquisition of a portion of the land in 2004. Evidence revealed that the respondent failed to investigate the land's ownership thoroughly before purchasing it.

The dispute arose when Tassah claimed ownership of a 0.29-acre portion of the land sold by Lakeside Estate to two other buyers. The court upheld that the sale was lawful, affirming Lakeside Estate's continuous and valid ownership of the entire property.

The Supreme Court's decision overturns a previous ruling by the Court of Appeal, which had favored Tassah. It restores the initial High Court ruling that dismissed Tassah's claims, stating that his actions did not meet the legal standard of a bona fide purchaser.
